Spiritual Lessons on Fire and Wood Burning

The Lord’s Ways Revealed in the Natural World

We sing praises and give glory to our heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. May the Lord use these words to edify and draw near those called by His name. Peace and grace to the scattered brethren, may the Lord strengthen your faith.

The physical world reveals how things work in the spiritual realm. Over the years, burning firewood to warm our homes in winter has reinforced this understanding. Understanding the lessons shared can help all who wait for the Lord to grow and be prepared for the coming of Christ to them for salvation. Let’s start by reminding ourselves what the Lord has made.

Col 1:16  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Col 1:17  And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

The things seen, the physical world, were framed by the Word of the Lord, which is higher than our thoughts and ways. The Lord’s ways are consistent; thus, physical creation shadows the ways of the spiritual realm.

Heb 11:3  Through faith we understand that the [physical] worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

The Kingdom of God comes without observation, yet the invisible things of the kingdom are revealed in the Lord’s physical creation. The further we walk with the Lord, the greater our understanding of this connection.

Rom 1:19  Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

Rom 1:20  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Using the physical to ascertain things in the Spirit is valuable for studying Scripture and reveals some of God’s mysteries. This wisdom helps bring us to our appointed day of Christ. When the Comforter comes, one of many terms for the Holy Spirit, what is Perfect has come to us. When the Living Christ comes, the importance of such knowledge and the speaking of tongues [the parables/mysteries] diminishes.

1Co 13:8  Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

1Co 13:9  For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

1Co 13:10  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

When the Living Christ comes, the indwelling Holy Spirit teaches us a new way by comparing spiritual things with spiritual. In our day of Christ, God’s hidden wisdom and deeper mysteries are revealed to us.

1Co 2:12  Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

1Co 2:13  Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Spirit teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

One can take almost anything in the physical and outward world and, with the mind of Christ, apply the Scriptures and sound principles to rightly divide the Word and prove the macro truth of Romans 1:20. In this study, we look at the realm of physical fire, specifically how wood is burned, and compare the physical experience with how the Lord works the spiritual application of fire and wood. May some who read be edified and provoked to study the Scriptures and meditate more on the Lord.

Physical Fire versus God’s Fire

Fire is the rapid oxidation of a material in a chemical combustion process, releasing heat, light, and various reaction products and residue such as gases, smoke, and ash. Likewise in spirit, the Word of God is the fire that makes rapid changes when Christ, the Living Word of Commandments, comes with the Promise and dwells in us. The fire of Christ combusts with the carnal-mindedness and worldliness, which is the spiritual wood. All things begin to be made new, the old is burned up, and it all happens relatively quickly.

Rom 9:28  For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.

Rev 11:14  The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.

The fire of the Word remakes us from a natural and sinful firstborn Adam into a holy man, a son of God via judgment by the Living Word. All things are made new, the old is burned up, and the new man emerges from the fire.

Jer 23:29  Is not my word like a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

Jer 5:14  Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

1Co 3:15  If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Fire can be both good and bad in the physical and spiritual realms. Physical fire is used to cook food, warm dwellings, and bring new life to forests and fields. However, it also destroys, kills, burns, and harms what it touches. Likewise, in the spiritual, the Lord’s fire does both good and bad, as the Word of the Lord is a two-edged sword.

Heb 4:12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

This paper addresses some of the positive and negative aspects of spiritual fire using physical experiences as an example. All things of the Lord work for good in the end, and the destruction of the old man by fire brings forth the new man by fire, Christ in us, the hope of glory. How great are these wondrous works of the Lord to the children of men!

The Fire of God Saves Us

Having our old “natural” way of life burned up is not pleasant to flesh and its desires, yet it is necessary for us to be saved and made partakers of His Holiness. Fire produces heat, and heat is the fiery trials, the grace of God, that burns up all that defiles us and takes away our sins. It is the way of salvation.

Psa 119:71  It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

Mal 3:3  And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

Mat 3:11  I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

Heb 12:6  For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

The commandments are what judge us and bring correction by the chastening of our loving Heavenly Father. Those who dwell in the devouring fire of the Lord’s Word, the Gospel, are those being delivered from sin and remade into the image of the Son.   This is the way in which we should walk, and the Lord teaches us as we abide in His fire.

Isa 33:14  The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?

Isa 33:15  He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;

Mankind is likened to trees in the Scriptures.  In the negative view, trees and wood symbolize our carnal mind and carnal way of life. That is what God’s fire is making combustion with when our day of the Lord, judgment day comes upon us.

Jer 7:20  Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

Joe 1:19  O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.

God’s spiritual fire, the Living Word that is the Commandments, also known as the Gospel, accomplishes its purposes to whom it is sent. It does not return void; the wood is burned up, and salvation is the result.

What is needed for fire to combust?  Physical fire comes from a chemical reaction between oxygen in the atmosphere and a fuel source, which is wood in our spiritual lesson. The mere presence of these things is not enough, as combustion requires a spark and heating of the wood to its ignition temperature.  The heat needed to spark a fire can come from many different things: a match, focused light, friction, or even lightning.

The spark that lights the fire of the Gospel is the coming of the Lord, the day and hour, the Promise of the indwelling Holy Spirit comes to make its abode within us. When the Living God lives in you, the fire lives in you, and the consumption of all the wood, representing carnal mindedness and sins, is underway. The Lord has come to the earth for salvation.

Luk 12:49  I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?

Luk 12:50  But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!

Our time of many trials has come when the fire within us has been lit. The trials of our faith are precious to the Lord, as they are what save us. It is only by enduring these many tribulations that salvation comes and we enter into the kingdom of God.

Act 14:22  Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

1Pe 4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

1Pe 4:13  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

When the Lord comes to us, He likened it to lightning in the natural. Lightning comes suddenly with great power and sparks many fires. So, it is in the Spirit when Christ comes and makes fire within us.

Mat 24:27  For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

The enmity between flesh and the Spirit [Gal 5:17], the living commandments bring friction that starts many spiritual fires needed to save us from our sins.

1Pe 1:7  That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ

Wood fires produce smoke:  Smoke is a symptom of a burning fire and contains the trapped gases along with other organic matter.  The winds then drive away these pollutants. The winds that are God’s judgments by the Spirit of the Commandments sweep away these pollutants from us.

Hos 13:3  Therefore they [our sins and idols] shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

Torment to our old man and beastly nature is a good thing. In our patience and endurance through this torment, we are being saved.

Rev 14:11  And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Rev 14:12  Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Where the Spirit of the Lord, the Holy Commandments are, there is always smoke on the mountain, and the fire is hot like a furnace, and salvation from our sins is taking place.

Exo 19:18  And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

Psa 37:20  But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

Psa 68:2  As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

The burning and smoke define the great and terrible day of the Lord that begins when we experience Pentecost. Joel’s prophecy is fulfilled in our lives. The Living Christ has come, and the fire and smoke are soon seen.

Act 2:19  And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

Small pieces of wood burn easier and faster than big ones: The size of the fuel affects how easily it catches fire. A larger tree log, for example, requires a lot of heat to ignite and stay burning. Raising a large piece of wood to ignite takes a lot of heat energy. For comparison, contrast a tree log with a toothpick made of the same wood.   A toothpick catches fire easily with a simple match after a few seconds. In the spiritual realm, our big sins are like tree logs and take a much bigger and hotter fire to burn up. Our smaller sins can be overcome more readily with a less intense fiery trial from the Lord.   The Lord knows what is needed and gives us fiery stripes according to what is necessary to accomplish the task of salvation.

2Pe 2:9  The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

The Lord deals with the small wood before He moves on to the big logs needing to be burned out of us.  We are matured little by little as Christ, the fire, comes to us little by little.

1Co 10:13  There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

The harder the wood or the more of it, the hotter the fire: Fire burns hotter when the wood is hard and/or there is lots of it.  The Lord knows how to create trials to bring us into obedience in our day of the Lord. He dials up the heat and the flames by the indwelling Spirit of Grace to accomplish His work in us. All things are being made new by the fervent heat. Hardened and rebellious hearts take a very big and hot fire to burn the selfish and beastly nature out of us.

Rom 2:5  But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

2Pe 3:10  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Eze 24:9  Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the bloody city! I will even make the pile for fire great.

Eze 24:10  Heap on wood, kindle the fire, consume the flesh, and spice it well, and let the bones be burned.

Softer wood, such as pine, burns more easily and quickly in nature. The Lord knows what is needed to remake us, change our hearts, burn out the wood, hay, and stubble, and perfect us when the time comes. When we know to do right and do not do it, that is hard wood, and the fiery judgment is more severe. To whom much is given, much is expected, and the consequences of disobedience are increased to bring correction.

Luk 12:47  And that servant, which knew his Lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

Luk 12:48  But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Heb 10:26  For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

Heb 10:27  But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Seasoned wood is dry wood and burns the best. The Lord prepares us to be burned in His fire by drying us up in a spiritual famine and drought. These famines of hearing the Word of the Lord cause us to be overcome by the flesh and walk in disobedience. The Lord seeks such occasions to humble us, soften our hearts, and bring the fiery judgment to save us.

Jer 2:19  Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee:

Joh 15:2  Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

Isa 63:17  O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear?

The choicest wood is seasoned wood prepared and dried, waiting for its time to be burned. Likewise, the Lord seasons us and prepares us for our day of judgment.

2Pe 3:7  But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

Wood that is not seasoned struggles to be burned; thus, in His infinite wisdom, the Lord knows when to bring the fire to accomplish His purposes. He forebears and long suffers with us, waiting for the time appointed.

2Pe 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

The baptism of fire does not come until the Gospel is preached and the man of sin living in all flesh is revealed. When the Gospel is heard and received, the abomination of desolation is revealed, and then the fire of great tribulation comes to work salvation.

Mat 24:14  And this Gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Wet wood does not burn:  There are two perspectives to cover on these criteria regarding wet wood, as there are two sides to the sword of God. In the negative sense, water or wetness is associated with the flesh and our walking by that mindset.  When we are still wet with that mindset, we have not been prepared for judgment, and the commandments are not yet burning up our old man, and we remain beasts and aliens and strangers to Israel of God. Before faith comes, through hearing the Gospel, the trees of the field stay wet and are not yet ready for burning. We need to have faith and believe the Lord to become seasoned and prepared for the fire to come in our last day.

Joh 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

Joh 12:48  He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

The other side of wetness is when the Spirit, the Promise comes, and we are drenched in God’s latter rain, which is the Living Gospel. The resulting fiery trials do not harm us and instead perfect us.    The lake of fire is our third day, the day of the Lord, when we abide in the fire and fiery furnace, of the lively hope living in us, which is the Commandments.   The beast, the false prophet, all that defiles, and even Satan, are burned up as the Lord makes a new heaven and earth where righteousness dwells.

Rev 19:20  And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

The coming of the Living Christ, after our baptism of John, is the living fire that will totally devour all the adversaries of the Lord’s commandments.

Luk 3:16  John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire:

The new man who rests in faith of the Commandments, the Living Gospel abides in the fire and is not harmed.

Rev 2:11  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Dan 3:24  Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.

Dan 3:25  He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

Fire brings warmth that gets us through winter. Fire generates heat, which warms us physically and spiritually, helping us endure through periods of cold and winter. The Gospel, which is the commandments abiding in us and our thoughts focused on them, keeps the fire burning through all seasons of life when things get cold and spiritual fruit is scarce. Iniquity is disobedience and brings on spiritual winters in our lives, all part of the seasons of the inward earth the Lord is working. Keeping some fire burning is the only way we endure to the end.

Mat 24:12  And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

Mat 24:13  But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

It is easier to survive winter when we abide in the fire that is the assembly of the saints, hearing the Gospel preached and being admonished.

2Ti 4:2  Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine

We wash each other’s feet and thus keep the fire of the commandments always in focus as we walk the narrow highway of holiness. Christ gave us the example.

Joh 13:14  If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.

Fire provides light in times of darkness. Fire is a big help in times of darkness. Before electricity was invented, mankind only had fire as their means for light to see in the darkness. In the Spirit, the commandments, the Living Christ is the only light that guides our feet and brings others lost and wandering about to the light of Christ, which we now project.

Psa 119:105  Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Mat 5:14  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.

The Lord kindles the fire in His chosen ones, and they become the bearers of the light, bringing the flame of the commandments to the rest of spiritual Israel.

Isa 10:16  Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.

Isa 10:17  And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;

Those who preach and obey the Gospel are the lights unto the world. When we obey the Lord, we are spiritually transfigured and become lights that shine the righteousness of Christ to the world.

Mat 17:2  And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

Php 2:15  That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

Jesus Christ, the Living Word of God, the commandments is the true Light that all men who sit in spiritual darkness see in the appointed time. Christ draws all men to the Light in due time.

Mat 4:16  The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

The flame color of fire indicates relative temperature: The color of the flames of fire varies depending on intensity and temperature. Blue and white flames are the hottest, which ties wonderfully to the symbolism of colors in Scripture.   Blue and white are the apparel worn by the Lord’s ministers who bring the Gospel to others.

Est 8:15  And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple: and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad.

The garments of salvation, the righteousness that is Jesus Christ is white as is the fine linen of the saints who have the Gospel living inside of them. It takes coming through the great tribulation of intense spiritual heat and fire to be made into a saint and dressed in white garments of salvation.

Rev 7:14  And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Rev 3:18  I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

Rev 19:8  And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

More air makes a better burning and hotter fire:  A poorly burning fire is usually quickly fixed by giving it more air, which brings needed oxygen. Our measure of faith [Rom 12:3] is our earnest deposit of the Lord’s Spirit given solely on the Lord’s determination. When we struggle in our walk, we seek the Lord, meaning to seek the commandments, going to the throne of grace in our time of need. Seeking more of the Spirit of the commandments brings the fire back to life and actively burning in our members.

Jer 33:3  Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Heb 4:16  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Psa 86:7  In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.

The Lord gives us more of Him, the Living Bread of life, when we seek Him. He promises to answer and give us what we ask and bring the fire back to life.

Mat 7:7  Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

Mat 7:8  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Mat 7:9  Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?

If we love God, we seek the fire, His coming to live in us, with our whole hearts. We press inward to the commandments, striving to be holy in all our behaviour to hasten His coming.

2Pe 3:11  Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
2Pe 3:12  Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

The residue of a wood fire is ash: Typically, wood ash is thrown away; however, this fine residue of a fire has many good uses.  Wood ash cannot be burned and consists of elemental minerals suitable for fertilizing gardens and trees and promoting new life.  Ash is also used in making soaps to wash and clean bodies, and is used to control foul odors [landfills], and even to deter and kill insects.  This has great spiritual significance when we apply Romans 1:20 to what the Lord is doing with us in this age, when judgment has fallen on the Lord’s house and the fire of the commandments begins to burn up our carnal thoughts and way of life.

Mal 3:2  But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:

The commandments, the Gospel, grind the old man, our carnal life to fine powder in the day of His coming.

Mat 21:44  And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

The ashes of the sacrificed heifer [our bodies, our reasonable service] is the water of separation that purifies us and sets us apart from the world.

Num 19:9  And a man that is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and lay them up without the camp in a clean place, and it shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel for a water of separation: it is a purification for sin.

Num 19:10  And he that gathereth the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: and it shall be unto the children of Israel, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among them, for a statute for ever.

Rom 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Repenting in dust and ashes is giving up our lives for the Lord and obeying Him. It takes the Lord coming with the Fire of Judgment, the Gospel living inside, to grant this to Israel. The old life becomes ashes, burned up in the fire, and replaced by the beauty of Christ and His righteousness.

Isa 61:3  To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Ashes retain their heat for quite some time, depending on the hardness of the burned wood. The burning process creates an insulated barrier to keep heat in the residue of wood ash. Pockets of trapped air trap the heat to keep the ash warm. So, it is in the Spirit when the grace of God comes to live with us, there is always heat and warmth from the commandments working in us.

Rom 5:20  Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

Lev 6:10  And the priest shall put on his linen garment, and his linen breeches shall he put upon his flesh, and take up the ashes which the fire hath consumed with the burnt offering on the altar, and he shall put them beside the altar.

Fire is made up of many burning pieces of wood.  Keeping a single piece of wood burning in a fire is challenging.  But if one puts multiple pieces together in building a fire, the fire burns more easily and consistently. This brings to mind the truth that the priests of the Lord, those whom the Lord raises first by His coming to them, are likened unto ministers of fire who preach and teach the Gospel in the assemblies. In turn, the Lord’s ministers of the Gospel set fire to all the other wood that gathers together in Jerusalem.

Zec 12:6  In that day will I make the governors of Judah like a hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.

The fire of Christ is spread by the angels of the Lord, the cherubim, who are also the preachers of the Gospel. Fire and flames is always in view.

Eze 1:4  And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.

Heb 1:7  And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

The way to the tree of life, the living commandments, the Gospel, is through the cherubim whom the Lord places in His church.

Gen 3:24  So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

Those who have the resurrected Christ in them, the children of the resurrection, are the mighty angels of the Lord who bring the Gospel and the flaming fire that judges all men in their appointed time.

2Th 1:7  And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

2Th 1:8  In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

All born again by the water and the Spirit become the fire, the flaming ministers of the Gospel. With Christ living in them, they have become the saviours who perform the greater works of Christ and bring all mankind to the light and fire that is the Living Christ, the Gospel.

Oba 1:18  And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.

Dirt and creeping insects are found in and on firewood. If one has worked with firewood, they learn that dust and dirt readily cling to firewood, and there is always cleaning needed where wood is stacked. Firewood is also a haven for many creeping insects, such as ants and roaches, who hide in the crevices and behind the bark and thus can enter our houses unawares. The first man Adam, the carnal man, is by nature filthy and their earth full of creeping things which are hidden sins. A total remaking by fire in the hands of the Potter is required.

Gen 6:7  And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air …

Job 15:16  How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?

In Spirit, creeping things of the earth represent our many little sins that defile us and make us unclean.  These creeping things are carnal thoughts, reasoning, and arguments contrary to the pure and undefiled Bread of Life that is the commandments of the Living Christ.   Creeping things are the little sins that so easily beset us.

Heb 12:1  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us

Creeping things are not to be eaten, meaning taken into our hearts and minds but rather burned in the fire of the Lord.

Lev 11:41  And every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth shall be an abomination; it shall not be eaten.

Lev 11:42  Whatsoever goeth upon the belly, and whatsoever goeth upon all four, or whatsoever hath more feet among all creeping things that creep upon the earth, them ye shall not eat; for they are an abomination.

Lev 11:43  Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creepeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby.

Lev 11:44  For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

The carnal reasonings of men, contrary to the Gospel, are likened to dust that we are to shake off and move on when the Gospel is rejected.

Mat 10:14  And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

A day of remaking comes to all men when the Gospel is heard and received, and we come to the light of Christ, that is also the fire

Joh 3:20  For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

Joh 3:21  But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

A fire goes out when the wood is consumed:   The fiery trials endured when the Spirit of Grace comes is how we are caused to learn to do righteousness. When we overcome, the fiery trial has worked its work, and the heat and suffering come to an end. Likewise, in nature, the fire goes out when the wood representing man’s carnality is burned up.   God, who is Spirit, is a consuming fire that consumes what is needed, leaving behind only what is pure and undefiled. Only the good, the new man, the faith of Christ, and His righteousness remain when the Lord comes as the consuming fire.

Heb 12:28  Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

Heb 12:29  For our God is a consuming fire.

Eze 22:31  Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD.

We are not appointed to wrath but for salvation. Yet the way of salvation is enduring the Lord’s wrath, our chastening by our Heavenly Father. This is how salvation is manifested now, and then the wrath is no more.

1Th 5:9  For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

Isa 66:15  For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.

The wood of our carnal mind is not entirely consumed until these clay vessels are gone. Hence, we endure to the end, always pressing onward to the high calling of being holy in all our behavior. The work of Christ, the living commandments, is finished in the appointed time when judgment by the Holy Spirit finishes its work in perfecting us.

Pro 26:20  Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer [no carnal mind], the strife [the fiery trial] ceaseth.

One of the biggest lies most of the Christian world believes is that God torments His creation in eternal hell and punishment.   Anyone believing that knows another Jesus and their time of coming to the true fire of God has not yet come.  Here was an article that covered the egregious lie of eternal hell.  The Lie of Eternal Torment

All drawn near to the Gospel should be confident in the Lord to finish the work when their day of Christ comes.

Php 1:6  Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Those to whom the Living Christ has come with the Promise become the bearers of the Lord’s fire and are always at work to keep that fire burning in the temple of God. Salvation is a process with a lot of wood, hay, and stubble burning, requiring fires and trials of varying intensity. When one trial is over, another follows until our perfection is completed.

Lev 6:12  And the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order upon it; and he shall burn thereon the fat of the peace offerings.

Lev 6:13  The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.

1Co 3:13  Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.

Seek the Fire is Seeking Salvation

The Lord’s fire and the resulting judgment they bring should be pursued, as it is how salvation, the most basic promise of the Lord, is manifested. When judgment has fallen on our house, the house of God, we should be glad and rejoice. We are being saved, and the Lord is finishing the job.

Psa 48:11  Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.

Eph 5:20  Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

The old must be destroyed for the new man Christ in us to come forth. For a new vessel to be made, the first one needs to be destroyed in the hands of the Potter.

Joe 1:15  Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

Mat 24:1  And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.

Mat 24:2  And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

Every man is redeemed unto God in the times appointed by the Father, being born again from the Gospel, first by the baptism of water, and then the baptism of fire. We have been redeemed, bought with a price, and now belong to the Lord. All His works of fire and the resulting sufferings work for the good of making us righteous and holy in the image of the Son.

Isa 43:1  But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

Isa 43:2  When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

The description of the Living Christ, who sees and judges all things, has eyes likened unto flames of fire. Salvation and overcoming are the work of the Lord, the Living Word of God, who reigns in our heaven and watches over our earth, judging righteously by the commandments that are a fire.

Rev 19:12  His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

Rev 19:13  And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God [THE CONSUMING FIRE]

The lesson on wood burning and fire is over. We hope this study stirs one’s zeal to read the Scriptures and pursue the Gospel, the commandments that save them from their sins. By applying a spiritual understanding of what the natural world reveals, we can grow in knowledge of the ways of the Lord. Think about the things above.

The Glory of the Lord Fills the House

Maturing in the Hope of Glory

God our Father is the Father of Glory by whom are all things.  When the time comes, the Lord comes as a quickening Spirit, and we are being glorified in the Father’s name.

Eph 1:17  That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

The Promise gives us Wisdom, who is Christ, and Revelation, also called Understanding, who is the Father.  The Spirit of the Living God enters our house and fills it with God’s glory.  In the Lord’s Prayer, which we are commanded to pray daily, we ask for the Promise to come and bring the power and glory that is our obedience and the resulting Holiness.

Mat 6:13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever

Glory is the aftereffect or result of the power of the Living Word coming and giving one the ability to overcome their sin.  It is overcoming sin that makes us holy, and Holiness is the glory of God.

1Pe 1:15  But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

1Pe 1:16  Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

We are being made to adorn the glory of the Lord, which is holiness.  Everything about the commandments concerns our holiness.  That is the essence of God and who we become in due time as we are made into His sons. We are following the example of the Lord receiving glory and honor from the Father.

2Pe 1:17  For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

2Pe 1:18  And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

Holiness and obedience, which is love, go hand in glove.  The love of God, our obedience, comes from the power of the Holy Spirit, who lives in us once the Promise comes.  Being holy is being perfect, the essence of the Father of Glory, who lives in our heaven now.

Mat 5:48  Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

We are made into sons of glory when the captain of our salvation, the Living Spirit of Christ, perfects us through the many sufferings we are appointed.

Heb 2:10  For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

We are learning obedience by the Spirit, who has brought judgment and righteousness into the house of God.  We follow the Lord and are crucified with Him to be perfected and become holy angels that shine the glory of the Father, being the sons of God.

Heb 5:8  Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

Heb 5:9  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Those perfected in this age are the holy angels, the children of the resurrection who come with Christ to judge the nations in the lake of fire.

Mat 25:31  When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

Christ chooses us to be His church and brings power and glory.  All those in the church of the Lord are being worked on.  Whether it is John’s baptism or Christ’s baptism, the commandments perform the work of sanctifying and cleansing.  By the commandments of the Gospel, we are established as a people without blemish, reflecting His glory.

Eph 5:26  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

Eph 5:27  That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Our calling and election come with an exceedingly high standard of expected behaviour.  The honour given is incomparable with anything offered in this world.  We are the elect of God and have been given many spiritual blessings.  The Israel of God is to be holy and abiding in love, always obeying His commandments.  Anything else is not love, and is not Holiness.

Eph 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

Eph 1:4  According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Jesus Christ, the firstborn of all creation, pure and without blame, is the epitome of Holiness and is the brightness of the Father’s glory.  Jesus Christ, the Living Word, the Son, is Holy and is the glory of God.  The glory comes to live in us.

Heb 1:1  God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

Heb 1:2  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Heb 1:3  Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

The Gospel, which is Christ, is glorious because the Holy Commandments, which are Spirit, are the image of God.  We show others the knowledge of God’s glory when we share and live the Gospel with brethren.

2Co 4:4  In whom the God of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them

2Co 4:5  For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.

2Co 4:6  For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

The Gospel is the light of God and the knowledge of the glory of God that is the image of Jesus Christ, who is the image of the Father.  When the brightness of the living commandments comes to us, all things are being made new, and we begin to manifest Holiness, which is the glory of God.  This spiritual light manifests outwardly and is seen by all given spiritual eyes.

Joh 1:14  And the Word [Christ in you] was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

When we receive Christ, the Promise, we are now Christ in the world, and as He was the light unto the world, so are we.  Shining the light of God glorifies the Father who sits in our heavens with Christ [Joh 14:20].

Mat 5:16  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

The Old Testament shadows the true things of Christ.  Yet even the shadow of the living Christ, the commandments were glorious.  When Moses went to speak with the Lord and came out with commandments to give them, his face shone brightly, being full of the Lord’s glory.  Moses had to wear a veil.

2Co 3:7  But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:

The glory of the Spirit of the Living God far exceeds the glory of the letter of the law, which is the glory we have with the baptism of John.  The coming of the Living Christ by the Promise is the hope of glory coming, which exceeds the glory we once had in the letter before the Spirit comes.

2Co 3:8  How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?

2Co 3:9  For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

2Co 3:10  For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.

2Co 3:11  For if that which is done away was glorious, how much more that which remaineth is glorious.

Losing Our Life Brings His Glory

When the Spirit comes, we are no longer under the law of the carnal mind.  The school master, the shadow of the truth, is gone.  Our lives no longer belong to us; we have been redeemed and belong to the Lord.  We have been made a living sacrifice the moment the Promise comes.  We lay down our lives as the Lord did His.  Laying down our lives is when the Father honors us, and we receive His glory as He glorifies us in His temple.  Christ often speaks of His death and our death on the cross as it precedes the coming of great glory.

Joh 12:26  If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

Joh 12:27  Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say?  Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

Joh 12:28  Father, glorify thy name.  Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again [Through the coming to us]

We hear the voice of God, either from heaven or from an angel of the Lord who has gone before us.  Judgment is come; it begins in earnest when the Gospel is preached, and the Promise received.  When the time is at hand to be glorified by the Father, there is only a short time left for Satan.  The Lord faithfully reveals what we need to know in His perfect timing.  The devil, the world’s prince, is soon to be cast out of our heavens.  The Spirit of the Living God is not sharing His throne with the prince of this world.

Joh 12:31  Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

Joh 12:32  And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

Like Christ, we draw all men to ourselves in due time.  There are very few in this age, but all people come to the Lord and His Christ in the next age.  When we finish the race we were given to run in these physical bodies, we have completed the work the Lord gave us to do.  When we depart these clay vessels, having endured to the end, we are given the same glorified spiritual body as the Father and Christ.

Jhn 17:4  I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

Jhn 17:5  And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

God lays great honour and majesty upon us as we are His true sons.  We are the apple of His eye and have become His glory.

Psa 21:5  His glory is great in thy salvation: honour and majesty hast thou laid upon him.

The resurrected Christ returns to us in the appointed time, ascending into our heaven as the Promised Comforter.  The Spirit of Christ dwelling inside us now gives us the same glory the Father gave the Son, and we are forever with the Lord, beholding His glory.  The Spirit of Christ performs it.

Jhn 17:22  And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

Jhn 17:23  I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

Jhn 17:24  Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

With the indwelling Promise, we are taught of God by the chastening grace that brings forth righteousness.  The glory of God and our Saviour is revealed increasingly as we mature.

Tit 2:12  Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Tit 2:13  Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

We never stop learning and growing and being strengthened as Christ increases in us daily by the working of the glorious power of the indwelling living commandments.

Col 1:10  That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Col 1:11  Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

Progressions of Glory:

There is a progression in receiving glory, just as there is in overcoming sin and becoming holy in all our behaviour.  We see this progression in the shadows of the construction of the tabernacles and physical temples in Israel, which are lessons written for our admonition.  God’s true temple [which we are] is not built by the hands of men [Acts 7:49] but by the power of the living and indwelling commandments.

Isa 66:1  Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me?  and where is the place of my rest?

Each step toward maturity glorifies the Father, yet there are different levels of glory dependent upon which Baptism [John or Christ] we have completed, our role in the church, and where we stand on the road to maturity in our baptism.

1Co 15:40  There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

1Co 15:41  There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

The Lord gives everyone their measure of faith, and we are His workmanship, so some bear more fruit and thus more glory than others, but it is all of the Lord.

Mar 4:20  And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

The fullness of glory only comes when the Lord’s work is finished, and we are given our new spiritual bodies after finishing the earthly race.  Being raised with Christ, our earnest deposit is glorious, but the fullness is yet to come.

1Co 15:43  It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:

1Co 15:44  It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body.  There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

We groan and travail in this weak flesh, hoping for the complete deliverance and glory to be revealed.

Php 3:21  Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Progressions of the Building of Tabernacles and Temples

The Promise of Jesus Christ comes when the temple or tabernacle of God is dedicated to the Lord.  Symbolically, this is the day the Ark of the living commandments is brought into us, who are now the temple of God.  The progression of salvation takes time, with both John’s Baptism and Christ’s Baptism [the Promise].  The glory of God and our obedience come little by little.  We see this witnessed multiple times in the stories of Israel’s sojourning and ultimately abiding in the Promised Land.

Deu 7:22  And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee

Our obedience, that is the glory of God for which we are created, appears little by little, and we are given the fullness when our race is finished.

The first tabernacle erected by Moses in the wilderness reveals its initial filling with God’s glory.  These stories are parables, and we are this tabernacle as we receive our Baptism of John and later the physical temples built in Israel.  The common theme of the glory coming, is that it always follows the bringing in of the commandments, the Ark, into the temple.

Exo 40:21  And he brought the Ark [the commandments] into the tabernacle, and set up the vail of the covering, and covered the Ark of the testimony; as the LORD commanded Moses.

Exo 40:34  Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

Where the commandments of the Lord reside is where the Lord is, because He is the Holy Commandments of the Father.  The glory of the Lord always manifests in the presence of the commandments.  Eventually, Israel entered the Promised Land, and Solomon was led to construct a permanent physical temple.  Here again, we see the commandments, the Ark brought into the temple of God as a parable to them coming into our temple.  The Ark is brought in by the priests who preach and teach the Gospel.

2Ch 5:2  Now Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the chief fathers of the children of Israel, in Jerusalem, that they might bring the Ark of the covenant of the LORD up from the City of David, which is Zion.

2Ch 5:5  Then they brought up the Ark, the tabernacle of meeting, and all the holy furnishings that were in the tabernacle.  The priests and the Levites brought them up.

Solomon soon prayed for the Promise of the Spirit [the Spirit is our covering and is the garment of salvation] to fall upon Israel.  The Lord answered the prayer, and fire from heaven came down, filling the entire house.  This ancient event is a shadow of our day of Pentecost and how we pray the Lord to come and fill His house with the glory of the Father.  Solomon’s prayer is an excellent one for us to pray today while we tarry.

2Ch 6:41  Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the Ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.

2Ch 7:1  Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house.

2Ch 7:2  And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD’S house.

2Ch 7:3  And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.

When the temple is filled with the Promise, the glory of the Lord, the thing we have hoped and prayed for has come.  Now we enter into the true sabbath rest of the Lord and can no longer do our own works and ministry.  We now belong to the Lord, having been redeemed from among men.

1Ki 8:10  And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD,

1Ki 8:11  So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.

Once redeemed, we only do the Lord’s work henceforth, which is preaching and living the Gospel.  God’s glory, the cloud, covers our sins, and they are no longer remembered.  The Lord has glorified Himself in us, the Holy Temple where He now dwells with the Father.

Isa 44:21  Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me.

Isa 44:22  I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.

Isa 44:23  Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.

Isa 44:24  Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

After Solomon’s temple was sacked, the physical [outward] Ark of the Commandments given to Moses was lost.  Therefore, it could not be brought back into the second physical temple that Ezra and Zerubbabel were instrumental in constructing.  We do not see the glory of the Lord filling that temple at its dedication, as described in Ezra 6.

The Glory of the Latter Temple is Greater

With the baptism of John, there is glory in our house, but nothing compared to the glory of the latter house when the Lord comes by way of the Promise.   We have two physical temples built, Solomon’s, which we looked at earlier, and the second one after Israel [you and me] leave Spiritual Babylon.  Both of these temples are shadows of the makings and remaking of the true temple, which is the temple we are.

1Co 3:16  Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

1Co 3:17  If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

The Lord sends destroyers to both the “fleshly” temples, as we defile them both without the power of the Gospel helping us.  This destruction is for good as it prepares us for the Promise to come, which establishes the true living temple of the Lord, built by His hands and power.  Solomon’s and Ezra’s temples were destroyed at the appointed time so Christ could come with the Promise and establish the true everlasting temple.

Ezra’s temple, like Solomon’s, is a shadow of the true living temple that is to be filled with the Lord’s glory.  However, Ezra’s temple, in type and shadow, exemplifies the final temple more than Solomon’s because it was established by the Spirit of grace and not by works.

Zec 4:6  Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

Zec 4:7  Who art thou, O great mountain?  before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.

Few who saw the first temple and were taken into Spiritual Babylon are brought back to see the second temple being built, as many are called, and only a few are chosen.

Hag 2:3  Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now?  is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?

The temple we have in the Baptism of John is a shadow of the true temple. That is why we tarry or wait for the Promise to come that brings the power and glory of the true living Word.  Only then can the final everlasting temple be established. When the Promise is given, the Spirit builds God’s temple.  Haggai’s prophecy reflects this symbolism and the difference between the construction of this temple and that of Solomon’s.  The temple of Solomon was built with a great deal of gold, silver, and other trappings that symbolized knowledge and spiritual riches.  Ezra’s temple is much simpler, with less outward adornment of gold and other treasures [knowledge].  Coming out of Spiritual Babylon, we are learning that the power of God lies in the commandments, not in knowledge or appearances.  Ezra’s temple is built as an example of how our temple is being built, namely by the Spirit of the Lord.

Hag 2:4  Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts:

We just have to wait for the power, which is preceded by a spiritual shaking, an earthquake that gives the occasion for the Lord to come.  When this earthquake is finished, then our house of the Lord is filled with His glory, the Promise.

Hag 2:6  For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;

Hag 2:7  And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.

Hag 2:8  The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.

There is no comparison between the former glory under John’s baptism and the house’s glory when the Promise, the Living Christ, is received.

Hag 2:9  The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.

The Lord does not rest after the coming of the Promise.  He works until His righteousness blossoms and the overcoming of sin bursts forth.  All who overcome sin by the gift of faith are given a new name and wear a crown of glory.  We become the harvesters, the holy angels in the hand of God.

Isa 62:1  For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.

Isa 62:2  And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.

Isa 62:3  Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.

We do not receive the fullness of our crown until we depart these clay vessels made of sinful flesh.  Thus, we are always glad when our time comes to depart these clay vessels, knowing of the fullness of the glory to come and to be with the Lord and all the saints.

The Vision of the Promise and The City of God

Ezekiel’s vision of the final temple of the Living Lord is a vision of the children of the resurrection, each now an angel, full of the Spirit of the living by the commandments, who by their presence manifest the glory of God.  These cherubim, like those seen earlier [Eze 1 and Eze 10], enter the temple from the east gate, as we always follow the Son from east to the west.  The glory of the Lord fills this Temple as each angel coming in, those with Christ resurrected in them, enter into the city.  Their spiritual bodies, being the earth, shine with the glory of God.

Eze 43:2  And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice was like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory.

Eze 43:3  And it was according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city: and the visions were like the vision that I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell upon my face.

Eze 43:4  And the glory of the LORD came into the house by the way of the gate whose prospect is toward the east.

Eze 43:5  So the spirit took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house.

The law of the Lord’s final house is simple: it is Holiness.  Holiness is God’s true glory, so we always strive to be holy.

Eze 43:12  This is the law of the house; Upon the top of the mountain the whole limit thereof round about shall be most holy.  Behold, this is the law of the house.

John’s vision in Revelation confirms Ezekiel’s vision of the Lord’s final living temple. There is no temple per se; the Lord and the Father dwell in the hearts and minds of all the children of the resurrection, who are now the holy angels of the Lord. The glory of God and the Lamb that dwells in everyone is the light.  Those having dominion over their flesh are the kings of the earth who bring the glory and honor given to them by the Father into the Holy city.  Only the Holy can enter.

Rev 21:22  And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
Rev 21:23  And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
Rev 21:24  And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.

In closing, everyone must be reminded that even with the indwelling Spirit, we are told to be diligent and vigilant in our walk.  When Christ is taken away [the living commandments], the glory of God departs from that house.  When we leave our first love and wander into riotous living, the glory we had has departed, and we are again the prodigal son.  Keep the commandments sacred, write them on the frontlets of your eyes.  Let’s not be an Ichabod.

1Sa 4:21  And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the Ark of God was taken, and because of her Father in law and her husband.

1Sa 4:22  And she said, The glory is departed from Israel: for the Ark of God is taken.

We earnestly await the fullness of the glory of the Father to be revealed in us in due time.  Our hope of the glory to come makes our sufferings much more bearable.

Rom 8:18  For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Rom 8:19  For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

Grace, peace, and mercy to the brethren.

The Nicolaitan Spirit and its Deeds

The Seduction of Israel

We give thanks to the Lord and our Father in heaven, who has quickened these words in our hearts to share and edify the saints scattered into the world.  May they be received with thanksgiving to those who hear them.

The Nicolaitan spirit and the resulting deeds are not what have been commonly taught by the precepts of men.  A Nicolaitan spirit has nothing to do with the lordship of one over another, as some have been taught.  That is all extra-biblical and nowhere to be found in the Scriptures.  This false teaching then aids those who speak against the ministers and rule and authority the Lord sets in His church, who are sent to preach the Gospel in all boldness and power.  Carnal men have gone beyond what is written to concoct their false doctrine of the Nicolaitans.

A Nicolaitan in spirit is something completely different, as the sum of the Word of Truth makes clear.  A Nicolaitan, in the simplest terms, corrupts the Lord’s commandments.  We take nothing away from or add to the Lord’s commandments, but just do them.  That is brotherly love unfeigned.  The simplicity of Christ, the commandments are readily corrupted by the carnal mind, as the tempter brings in a little leaven at an opportune time.

2Co 11:3  But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Many false teachers and antichrists have corrupted the holy things of the Lord, the commandments, with subtle twists and turns. This is not the purity a chaste virgin is to have, and is indeed a corruption of the Gospel and the living commandments.  The bride of Christ, the pure virgins, are set apart only for their husband and do not have relations elsewhere.

2Co 11:2  For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Those with a Nicolaitan spirit corrupt the commandments of Christ and fornicate with the gods [carnal thoughts] of the world.  The corruption is done by adding to or taking away from the Word, mixing truth with error. A Nicolaitan spirit takes no heed in their walk to abide by the four necessary things the Apostles commanded in their letter after the council on circumcision.

Act 15:28  For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

Act 15:29  That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

A Nicolaitan spirit is a slothful spirit that takes the commandment to be set apart and “be ye holy because I am holy” and waters them down to justify themselves and reap the wages of unrighteousness.  The Lord hates this Spirit, as do those in the church of Ephesus.

Rev 2:6  But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

The churches of Pergamum and even Thyatira, however, do not purge out this spirit and continue to eat things sacrificed to idols and commit spiritual fornication and thus invite the wrath of God.

Rev 2:14  But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit spirtual fornicaton.

Rev 2:15  Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which things I hate.

The Nicolaitan spirit is better known as the doctrine of Balaam, which teaches Israel to eat things sacrificed unto idols and commit spiritual fornication against the Lord.  It is idolatry and unfaithfulness to the commandments.  A Nicolaitan spirit does not strive to be holy and to diligently keep and wholeheartedly obey all the commandments of the Lord.  It is the same as a Jezebel spirit; it is idolatry and spiritual fornication.  The Lord hates this spirit and its deeds, as He is a jealous God and demands our whole heart in faithfulness to Him alone.  Even with this spirit that God hates, we have many things right and are doing much charity and service in the faith.  Yet the Lord’s standard is even higher than we yet know.

Rev 2:19  I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.

Rev 2:20  Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

Understanding this is why “the HOW” we partake of the Lord’s supper when we come together is vitally important.

1Co 11:17  Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse.

1Co 11:18  For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.

1Co 11:19  For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.

1Co 11:20  When ye come together therefore into one place, is it not to eat the Lord’s supper?

Seduction is not overt; it is indeed subtle; hence, we have the unique word for seduction.  Those being seduced do not even know they are being seduced until the deed happens.  It is true in natural seductions, and it is also true in the spiritual. John writes as we now write to warn of this subtle seduction, that is, deception, which takes us away from the living commandments received into our hearts when we believe the Gospel.

1Jn 2:26  These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.

1Jn 2:27  But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

We always abide in Him, meaning the commandments.  It is permitted, as the sum of the word tells us to eat meat sacrificed to idols.  But we can never mix the two tables, which is the mistake of the Nicolaitans.  They are not holding fast to the commandment.  Knowledge and information on virtually anything can become an idol.  Idols puff us up, but charity, the keeping of the commandments, edifies.  Those in the faith know an idol is nothing, as we know there is only one true God.

1Co 8:4  As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.

1Co 8:5  For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

1Co 8:6  But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

We are free in Christ to eat meat sacrificed to idols, but we need to be careful not to lay a stumbling block for others, especially the weak and the young in the faith, who see us doing such things.

1Co 8:7  Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

1Co 8:8  But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.

1Co 8:9  But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

If the strong partake at an idol’s temple, for example, watching YouTube videos or being in a meeting where politics is the subject, we are none the worse for it.  We should eat or listen, without asking questions or engaging in the back-and-forth carnal dialogue.  But if a brother weak in the faith sees us doing this, it could cause them to stumble.  It is far better to abstain where possible.

1Co 8:10  For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

But we cannot openly bring or encourage the knowledge of idols, which is the meat of idols, into our partaking together of the Lord’s supper.  Doing so causes the whole house of Israel to eat things sacrificed to idols and commit spiritual fornication.  It brings the idolatry into the house of God and serves it up with the Lord’s supper.  This angers the Lord, who is jealous for His people.

1Co 10:20  But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

1Co 10:21  Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

1Co 10:22  Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

When we come together to eat the Lord’s supper, we preach and talk about the commandments.  That is the simplicity of Christ.  This is the Gospel, the daily bread we eat that brings eternal life by the death of the old man and the sacrifice of the new man.  Any other way of eating when we are gathered together is not good and is the true Nicolaitan spirit.  Paul warns of eating and drinking unworthily at the Lord’s table.

1Co 11:23  For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:

1Co 11:24  And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

1Co 11:25  After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

1Co 11:26  For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

1Co 11:27  Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

This topic is so important to being faithful and holy before the Lord.  We are now setting our affections on the things above, not on those of this world.  Everything in our lives changes when the Gospel comes.  It is our coveting [which is idolatry] more than just the commandments that leads to this error.

Col 3:5  Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

To cement our understanding, we need to bring Balaam into the picture.  Balaam was a prophet-for-hire who loved the wages of unrighteousness.  A recent study on Phinehas dealt with the aftereffects of Balaam’s sin that caused Israel to mingle with the Moabites.  This brought the plague upon the congregation, killing many.  Balaam brought this spirit and temptation into the house of Israel, which caused them to sin.

Num 31:16  Look, these women caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to trespass against the LORD in the incident of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.

Corrupting the Lord’s commandments, “did God really say”, or “a little bit of this or of that is okay”, is what the carnal mind and tempter do in leading us off the narrow road of holiness.   Dying to self on the cross of suffering and giving up our old way of life is indeed hard, but it is the only way to become holy in all of our behavior.  Not one stone is left when the Lord tears down the old temple to build the new temple, which Temple we are, having received the Gospel.

Mat 24:2  And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

The Lord is jealous for His people and thus hates the Nicolaitan spirit that strays from His Holy things, namely the commandments.  Here ye the Lord.  Balaam mingled with Balak, the king of Moab, and thus corrupted himself and all who subsequently took his counsel.

Num 22:41  And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people.

Balaam was seen entering into feasts with the Moabite king and thereby eating meat sacrificed unto idols.   The children of Israel saw him do this, and it led them to be seduced into their fornication with the Moabites and Midianites. This is what Paul wrote about in setting a good example for the weak.    Indirectly, Balaam brought a curse upon Israel by leading them into idolatry and spiritual fornication, which corrupted the commandments of the Lord.  As we saw in the Phinehas study, the result of Balaam’s counsel was the women of Moab seducing the men [their doctrine of being holy] of Israel by coming to their feast with Baal, the sun god.

Num 25:1  And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.

Num 25:2  And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

Num 25:3  And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.

This grievous sin is what stirred Phinehas into action, who thrust a spear, the Word of Commandments, through the belly of the fornicating Israelite prince and the Moabite daughter of a prince.  We are vigilant watchmen ensuring the children of Israel are not seduced into committing this idolatry or spiritual fornication when eating at the Lord’s table.  Seduction is subtle; it seems innocent enough, but the Lord’s standard is indeed high.  If we do not repent and turn back when it is exposed, the Lord brings a sword against our house.

Rev 2:16  Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Eating things sacrificed to idols and committing fornication are what we do when we bring our worldly conversations and experiences into our fellowships.  Such food cannot be mixed with the holy things of God, and only a little leaven corrupts the whole of the meal.  If we are not diligent, our carnal lusts and interests become the topic, and Israel is enticed to eat things sacrificed unto idols.  This can be any worldly interest, even too much worldly sorrow, giving too many details of our problems, rather than just speaking of the commandments and promises of God.  A lust for more knowledge and information beyond the commandments is covetousness, which is also idolatry.

All learn these lessons in the appointed time, as all things are ours to fulfil. Lord willing, our hearts are being made to consent to this doctrine of godliness in all our behavior.  Many argue and strive against it, but those being saved from their sins are learning to be content with the commandments because that is where the gain is found.

1Ti 6:6  But godliness with contentment is great gain.

1Ti 6:7  For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

1Ti 6:8  And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

1Ti 6:9  But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

Feeding the flock of God is to feed them the bread of life, the living commandments, that is the Gospel.  This is all we feed the flock, and this food, the meat of the Gospel, is what judges every man in the last day.  This is what the lost sheep eat to be recovered and made well again.  It is salvation.

Eze 34:16  I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment

The sheep get sick, fall asleep, and some die spiritually when the Lord’s supper is corrupted by a Nicolaitan spirit.

1Co 11:29  For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

1Co 11:30  For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

One cannot corrupt the commandments of Jesus Christ and the holy things and expect to make meaningful progress towards overcoming and salvation.  Such a spirit keeps one ever learning, having a form of godliness but denying the very knowledge and power of the commandments that save them.  In time, the Lord brings all of this to light, but since He comes in different watches, the result is fiery trials and divisions within the house.

The Nicolaitans are said to have gone astray, turning away from the Gospel that saves every man in the appointed time.  Nicolaitans love the “extra pay” they receive in the form of men’s esteem when they soften or take away from the commandments, thereby corrupting them.  Do not let any man steal your crown with such subtle deceit.

2Pe 2:15  Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

Jude also spoke of this and says woe unto those who have this spirit and think that godliness has any gain for the flesh.  They speak against the preachers of the Gospel, just as in the days of Korah, and are swallowed up by their carnal lusts if they do not repent.

Jud 1:11  Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

Carnal minds much prefer the old wine rather than the new wine of the Gospel of the living commandments.  Nobody wants to die, nobody wants to forsake all and give up everything they have to follow God. Thus, the carnal mind is readily attracted to the Nicolaitan spirit that profits the flesh and makes following Christ smoother in its delusion.

Isa 30:9  That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD:

Isa 30:10  Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:

The ministers of this Gospel preach this Word boldly so that nobody falls for the deception of the easy way.  The way is narrow, and few find it.

2Ti 4:2  Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

Why do we preach and exhort with boldness?  Here is why.

2Ti 4:3  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

2Ti 4:4  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

The truth is this Gospel is not popular, it is the essence of Jesus Christ that all flesh reviles and hates.  They esteemed Him not, and so it is today.  We earnestly contend for this one true Gospel against the corruption of the Nicolaitan spirit.

Jud 1:3  Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

We pray everyone is on watch for the Nicolaitan spirit in our walk and assemblies.  We need to act upon it when we see it, as the plagues of Israel when they committed fornication with the Moabite and Midianite nations are written for our admonition, so we understand the consequences of not acting.  The commandment is to be holy and to utterly slay every doctrine or thought that exalts itself against the knowledge of the commandments.  Only the useful things that edify remain, as everything in our thought and speech is to be brought through the fire and purified by the water of the Word, the commandments, that washes it clean.

Num 31:22  Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

Num 31:23  Everything that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.

God is a holy God, far holier than we can comprehend.  Everything in God’s presence or His name is said to be Holy.  The Scriptures have many nouns preceded by the Word HOLY.  The list of what is Holy includes these forty: Holy anointing, Holy commandments, Holy calling, Holy day, Holy nation, Holy flock, Holy people, Holy covenant, Holy Scriptures, Holy Spirit, Holy water, Holy brethren, Holy bread, Holy meat, Holy food, Holy prophets, Holy angels, Holy feasts, Holy men, Holy convocations, Holy name, Holy oil, Holy perfume, Holy gifts, Holy ark, Holy vessels, Holy crown, Holy arm, Holy temple, Holy heaven, Holy sabbath, Holy hill, Holy mountain, Holy sanctuary, Holy habitation, Holy linen, Holy tithe, Holy garments, Holy saints, Holy ground, Holy kiss, Holy God, and Holy One who is Christ and the Most Holy which is where the Ark or the commandments live in our hearts.

The Scriptures speak of the “holy things” and refer to the commandments that now live in those who receive the Gospel.  We hold these holy things [commandments] dear and abide continually in the knowledge we have been given of the Holy.  This is the Father and is understanding.

Pro 9:10  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Salvation has come to those who hear and keep these holy commandments.  All things are made new in a new heaven and a new earth.  Only those with the mark of Holiness on their forehead can enter into the holy of holies and abide with the Father and with the Son.

Exo 28:36  And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

We have been called to a holy calling, not by our works but by the power of the living Gospel if we have received it.  This comes with the sufferings and afflictions of the carnal world, and all without the Spirit hate us.

2Ti 1:8  Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

2Ti 1:9  Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

When we receive the Gospel into our hearts, the end has come.   Salvation has come, and this is the result.

Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
