“Eating, Drinking and Being Merry”

Key Verses:  Amos 6:2 – 6:7

We learned last week that being “at ease” in Zion meant we are not doing the work of God and instead are seeking the ways of the heathen nations to avoid the burden of living a godly life.

Joh 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, this is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent

Cutting peace treaties with the “chief of the nations” within ourselves is the result of our turning grace into lasciviousness and failing to earnestly contend for the faith (Jud 1:3-4).

Amo 6:1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

Our failing to work is not standing on faith. For this cause the Lord will send upon us strong delusion as we feast on the finer things in the Lord’s temple and the streets of His Holy City (Luk 13:26) but attend not the carrying the cross.  This brings the occasion the Lord has been seeking to kindle the fire of judgment in our earth (Luk 12:49) that comes by the Word. The Lord’s response to this unbelief and our pleasure in continued sins and fornication with heathen nations (turning grace to lasciviousness); is to send to us strong delusion.

2Th 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

2Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

2Th 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

2Th 2:10  And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

2Th 2:11  And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

2Th 2:12  That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Our captivity to sin and darkness is what leads to our “damnation” which is the very judgment of that man of sin within us, the blessing of God that will ultimately save us and all men in the appointed time. The unbelieving antichrist within, needs to be revealed and is identified to us as we go beyond Damascus into captivity to our flesh and carnal mind.

Amo 6:2 Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

Amo 6:3 Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

Amo 6:4 That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

Amo 6:5 That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;

Amo 6:6 That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

Amo 6:7 Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

Going beyond Damascus puts us deep into Spiritual Babylon where we are using the precious stones and vessels of the Lord for position; seeking a name for ourselves as we measure and compare ourselves to others. The heathen nations within and without are the rod of His anger used to bring judgment upon His people and reveal our captivity to sin and the lusts of the flesh.

Isa 10:5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

Isa 10:6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

Amo 6:14 But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.

All three of these named cities denote our spiritual progression onward to maturity and coming to see ourselves as the chief of sinners and wretched beasts when we of ourselves do anything.

Ecc 3:18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

These three cities have names and linkages to the desires of our flesh to be great (pride) and to continually expand its borders (influence).  Before we are humbled and Christ is exalted, the Lord turns us over to the idols of our heart (Eze 14:4).  Driven by prideful lusts, we seek gain from our supposed godliness and exalt ourselves against the congregation (Isa 14:13), seeking preeminence and are not content (1Ti 6:6) with where the Lord has us.

Calneh came from the line of Cush and specifically Nimrod who was a “mighty one in the earth” and a hunter who like Esau was a man of the field/world (Gen 25:27, Mat 13:38).

Gen 10:8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.

Gen 10:9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.

Gen 10:10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

Isaiah tells us Calneh is the same as Carchemish which means “fortress of Chemosh”

Isa 10:9 Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?

Chemosh was looked at in some detail in Amos Part 6.  This is the God of the Moabites who came from one of Lot’s two incestuous sons.  Spiritual incest as other studies have shown is uncovering the nakedness (sin) of our family which comes when we sleep with them in the darkness  rather than walking in the light.  The Body of Christ and the ministry of Christ is to be covering sins not uncovering them (1Pe 4:8).

Mat 25:36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

The spirit of Satan, the accuser of the brethren and fault finding spirit is being cast out of heaven and is made manifest in our journey beyond Damascus (Amo 5:27). The wagging the finger and finding fault is only cast out when we starve the old man and feed the new man.

Isa 58:9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;

Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

Hamath comes from H3246 meaning “walled” in like a “walled fortress”.  This is the false peace and safety we know, thinking we have made it through already before the Lord comes suddenly in the dark of night. Hamath is said to be “as Arpad” (Isa 10:9) which means “comfort” and is likened to the spreading out like on a bed. Spiritually speaking this is nothing more than being at ease, which is trusting in ourselves and the works of our hands as we build our own tower into heaven and rise above the clouds (Heb 12:1 – the saints).

Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Gen 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

All three of these cities are kingdoms of the heathen nations and Gath is no different, perhaps best known for being the home of Goliath the giant of the uncircumcised Philistines that represent the power of our flesh.  Goliath is our beast and the beast of all carnally minded men that walk after the flesh (signified by the number six).

1Sa 17:4 And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.

In the Micah Study Part 3, we showed the word Gath [H1660] is actually the very word in Hebrew that means winepress. Having our beast made manifest by journeying beyond Damascus into Spiritual Babylon/Assyria and engaging the armies of Israel in the war taking place in our heaven, is what brings the occasion for that same beast to be destroyed.

Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

Our failing to stand and fight and do the work of God in our laziness (lasciviousness) being puffed up with knowledge leads us into sin and our wicked hearts deceive us. Amos asks the question are we better than these three kingdoms or their borders greater than ours?  This is to cast light on our lack of faith and our continued doing what flesh loves to do but is so unwise.

2Co 10:12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

2Co 10:17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

2Co 10:18 For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

Being at ease gets more difficult as the furnace of affliction (Isa 48:10) is turned up in our day of wrath against the man of sin that is making a name for myself. We will stop it when the fire gets so hot and Romans grace accomplishes its purpose in changed behavior (Rom 5:20). Yet it is a process as we like Job, believe we are not worthy to be judged and bear this scourging.

Amo 6:3  Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

Putting off the day of evil is not being aware of our day of visitation from the Lord and wresting away His righteous judgments, the very trials and tribulations that are necessary to save us (Exo 6:6, Isa 1:27) by destroying our old way of life and establishing a new way.

Mat 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Following Christ is remembering Lot’s wife and not looking back and seeking to save the old.

Luk 9:62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

It is following our Lord’s footsteps and forsaking all that truly separates the chosen from the faithful in the end (Rev 17:14).

Luk 14:33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

It is the self-righteous spirit of Job and the Pharisees (i.e. you and me and ALL MEN) who do not need judgment and believe they have arrived way before the whirlwind comes and proves otherwise. These Pharisees, full of knowledge and zeal to search the Scriptures, sit in Moses’s seat which is a seat of self-righteousness by the works of the carnal law before the true reformation is completed in our day of the Lord.

Mat 23:2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat:

Mat 23:3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

Mat 23:4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

Mat 23:5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

Eating and drinking in the Kingdom of God is the means to the end which is salvation and being delivered of our besetting sins. We are found worshiping ourselves, the temple of God and forgetting the presence of builder of the temple who is far greater.

Amo 6:4 That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

Amo 6:5 That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;

Amo 6:6 That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

The Scriptures have many parables of our eating and drinking to excess and making that our primary focus. We so easily see this sin in others but not in ourselves as the sins of King David show us.  It takes a prophet to show us that we are THAT MAN (2Sa 12:7)

2Sa 12:1 And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.

2Sa 12:2 The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:

2Sa 12:3 But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.

2Sa 12:4 And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.

2Sa 12:5 And David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:

Like David we “invent” or devise and cunningly spin the truth to justify ourselves and be seen dancing and prancing in the congregation.  Yet our obedience is far from complete and we are in need of a prophet to bring rebuke to us to see ourselves as this man of sin. The end does not come until we see ourselves as this abomination in the Lord’s Temple (Mat 24:15). Only then are we taught the new song that only the Elect can sing as we abide in the fire, acknowledging we are the chief of sinners in all humility.

Rev 14:3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. (by judgment)

This is the true music and true Psalms the Lord is well pleased with that comes forth from a converted and contrite heart that has and is being humbled by the light shining in darkness.  The priority will shift from knowledge to filling up in the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22).

Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Eph 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Seeking preeminence, seeking dominion over other’s faith (2Co 1:24) and taking their wife and killing their husband, all sins of David committed in his affair are ours sin.  We are the man!  This is our story and words the Elect of God shall live by (Luk 4:4).  We learn it is better to go to the house of mourning than feasting.

Rom 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Rom 14:18 For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.

Are we really serving Christ or are we serving self and feeding the old man in seeking gain among men?  The Lord knows and tries our hearts by these very judgments we are studying.

1Co 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God (and not to ourselves).

Until we are humbled and given a change of heart (little by little) we are trusting in our spiritual riches and the outward fruits we bring that are seen of men.

Luk 12:16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

Luk 12:17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

Luk 12:18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

Our work, our labor in the kingdom of God is not to get rich and lay up treasures for ourselves (Pro 23:4, Luk 12:21). The ministry of Jesus Christ is to feed others first and NOT OURSELVES. As servants we eat second and thereby reap the blessing that is greater to those who give rather than receive. Our reasonable service is our entire life be given in service and there to be no seeking of gain.

Luk 17:8 But will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink’

Luk 17:9 Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not.

Luk 17:10 So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’

It is a narrow way to navigate the path to eternal life.  Paul praised not the carnal Corinthians who were coming together and making a show of eating and drinking for themselves when such work is to be done at home and not when we come together for service.

1Co 11:21 For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.

1Co 11:22 What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.

This spirit of self, manifests in our gorging ourselves with food (waxing fat – Deut 32:15) and drinking to drunkenness (Deut 29:6) that is ordained before we will know the Lord in spirit and I truth.   The day comes as it did for Noah and for Lot when we are eating and drinking in lusts for self and then Christ is revealed and the beast is destroyed by the water and fire of judgment.  (Luk 17:25-30).

Turning grace into lasciviousness is putting the light that is in us, under a bed and fornicating with the world.  We truly are being taught to separate by these many parables and learning just how serious is our calling.

Luk 8:16  No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.

Becoming part of the living Christ is a transformation process from living for ourselves and awakening from our spiritual sleep and putting away all things that are not of faith. When the Lord comes and arises within us, then we are commanded to get up from our bed and walk in faith (Joh 5:9).

Not being grieved for the affliction of Joseph is our ignorance to our own spiritual status and need for a healing as well as those in the Body.  The words for “grieved for the affliction” of Joseph are in their primary use telling us we are not aware of our sickness [H2470] that is destroying us [H7667].  Jesus Christ only comes to those who know and acknowledge they are in need of such a spiritual doctor (1T1 1:15, Rom 7:24).

Mat 9:12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

Mat 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

This responsibility to work out our own salvation first and foremost is our duty (Phi 2:12) and what acting in faith (working in the kingdom of God) is truly all about.

Gal 6:5 For every man shall bear his own burden.

Mat 7:5  Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

The Lord is, was and will be, getting our attention and showing us our lackadaisical faith that has turned His grace into justification for our continued sins and fornicating with the gods of this world.  Our moth eaten garments and cankered gold are being exposed and we are counseled where to go as the trials of judgment intensify.

Rev 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

The outward application of not being grieved is failing to be the faithful watchmen and truly love our brothers and go to them when they err and use the word to bring rebuke and correction where and when it is needed.

Tit 2:15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

Jas 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

We must always take heed (remain vigilant) in the fight of faith and examine ourselves and try the spirits in ourselves and in others.  Grievous wolves enter in (Act 20:29) and speak lies to draw away disciples in the gainsaying tradition of Core and Balaam.  This is why we must always try the spirits and examine ourselves to see if we are truly in the faith.

Amo 6:7 Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

As we are taken captive deep into Assyria beyond Damascus (aka Spiritual Babylon), our sins are being uncovered in our captivity and the feasting and celebrating ceases. Despite our knowledge, we are captives to our sins and like a pig returning to its wallowing in mire or a dog to its vomit, we are overcome by the beast.

2Pe 2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Rev 11:7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

It is a famine of hearing the words of the Lord that will bring us to our wits end and leads us back to our Father’s House as the Prodigal Son.

Amo 8:10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

Amo 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD

Being awakened to righteousness and seeing our true spiritual status will lead us to wash our hands in the fire and turns us back to the Lord with the mourning and weeping necessary to bring forth the new man.

Jas 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Jas 4:9  Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.

Next week the Lord begins smiting Israel for its inequities and disobedience being unfaithful to the Word.  Jacob will be made small which is the prerequisite for Christ to be exalted.  The might strong man of sin within us is being cut down as Christ is raised within us.

Amo 6:8 The Lord GOD hath sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

Eating and Drinking Unworthily

Key Verses:  Micah 3:1 – 3:5

We ended Part 10 at the conclusion of Chapter 2 with “the breaker” coming upon us and breaking up our old way of life.  We are now being led, dragged actually, by the Lord who is our Head.

Mic 2:13 The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them.

This is how the sheep are led to the slaughter and all things in our lives (our heavens and the earth) are made new (Rev 21:5).  Thankfully the Lord does indeed drag us (Joh 6:44) as we would never of our own “free will” walk into the winepress also known as the furnace of affliction.  We don’t bring ourselves out of bondage to the world and to sin, it is the Lord who does it and here is how He does it.

Exodus 6:6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:

The focus of today’s study will be on eating and drinking in the kingdom of God.  This eating and drinking of course are all spiritual symbols of how we partake of Jesus Christ and His judgments.

Luk 22:30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Here are the verses we will cover today.

Mic 3:1 And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment?

Mic 3:2 Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones;

Mic 3:3 Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.

Mic 3:4 Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.

Mic 3:5 Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that make my people err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.

It is the Word that leads us and nourishes us from a babe in Christ unto a mature man sanctified and exercising self-control (dominion) over sin.  These verses in Micah show us the linkage to our eating spiritual food and our judgment.  They are both one and the same thing.  We grow in the Lord by eating and we become what we eat!

Joh 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Eze 34:16 I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.

Starting on milk we move to maturity and with time progress to eating strong meat (Heb 5:13). Our purpose of coming together and fellowshipping and breaking bread is all about partaking in communion with Jesus Christ.  We are told to do this often.

1Co 11:24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

1Co 11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

Eating and drinking all refer to the one event of living by every word.  We shall certainly eat of His flesh and we will certainly drink of His cup right on schedule.

Mat 20:23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

It is performing this vital function (Heb 10:25, Col 1:24) of eating and drinking by which we are growing and maturing in the same way a child eats and drink physical things with nutrients to grow and become stronger with time.  We learn by doing and this is why we come together to eat and drink.

1Co 11:20 When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord’s supper.

Now let’s look at the specific verses.

Mic 3:1 And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment?

We must eat a lot of spiritual food to grow up in Christ.  This is how we come to know judgment, discerning good and evil along the narrow way and grow in the mind of Christ.  This is how we come to know the Lord which is the very definition of life eternal.

Joh 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

We, like Micah here, should be praying for the brethren that they would know judgment now in this age and become partakers of His divine nature that comes no other way.  We traverse this path to maturity all the way to brotherly love (2 Pe 1:7) to complete our training course in righteousness.  Yet our flesh abhors God’s judgment (Mic 3:9) and will do anything to remove or wrest it away.  We remove judgment from not only ourselves but also from others when we are snared by the Babylonian lies that twists making compromise and tolerating fleshly differences as love.  The Word does not pity, it does not spare and instead it destroys worldliness and carnal mindedness which is enmity with the Lord.  We are to be separate and have to carry a cross and bear persecution if we are given to obey.  There is only one way and one truth and that is Jesus Christ who is His Word.

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Mat 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

We should pursue peace with all men (Heb 12:14) but we don’t do that by compromising the commandments of the Lord.  Our pursuit of peace is also with holiness (obedience).  We must stand for faith and bear our cross otherwise we wrest judgment.

Deu 16:19 Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous

Being taught and given the mind of Christ requires us to judge all things by the Word of God (1 Co 2:15).  We come to see ourselves as chief of sinners in our day of judgment as the Lord purposefully manifests evil in our house and shines the light of truth on our hidden wickedness and inequities.

Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Judgment is how we are being taught the things of Christ.  Judgment is how we come to know the Lord.  We do not learn any other way but by this process.

Exodus 6:7 And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

It is our going through judgment and learning by the scourging of grace that the law of Christ is written onto our hearts and minds.  Eating meat is the trials, the suffering, and the persecution … the losing of our life to gain it.

Joh 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

Joh 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

Mic 3:2 Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones;

Mic 3:3 Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.

As we read verses like this we must always remember the Word is Spirit (Joh 6:63).  The carnal mind and those in orthodox Babylonian churches have no ability to study these verses much less explain them.  We must be given the requisite ears to hear and eyes to see that come only to the chosen few (Rom 11:7, Mat 13:10, Mat 22:14).  These words about eating flesh speak not to cannibalism by the flesh Jews of Micah’s time.  They speak to you and me and all of God’s Elect and our time of eating and drinking unworthily in the kingdom of God.  There are rules (commandments) and table manners in the house of God just like good parents teach their children physical table manners.  Paul spells out some of the problems and poor eating habits of the immature Corinthian church that apply as lessons and experiences to this very day. When we come to the Body of Christ primarily to receive rather than to give, we miss the point of being a servant. We all have to do it first, warming ourselves by the fire before we are given to serve.

As priests of the Lord and shepherds of the flock (Joh 10:2) we ought to follow the Lord’s example to minister rather than to be ministered to.  Paul also showed that example of laboring to support the weak.

Act 20:35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

When we pursue gain from the offerings and sacrifices of the brethren, we are sons of Belial, the wicked one and are eating from both tables and drinking from both cups.

1Sa 2:12 Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.

1Sa 2:13 And the priests’ custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a flesh hook of three teeth in his hand;

Eating and drinking in the kingdom of God when done properly is how we die daily and become a living sacrifice for our brothers and sisters.  This is showing the Lord’s death till He comes (1 Co 11:26).

We are warned and admonished not to eat unworthily which of course we will do at first in order to then learn how to eat properly in the Body of Christ.  We examine ourselves and our faith, be diligent as we have been repeatedly seeing in Micah that we take communion properly in the house of God.

1Co 11:27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

1Co 11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

1Co 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

1Co 11:30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

We will remain weak babes and be spiritually sick and asleep when we eat unworthily and thereby pervert and twist the righteous judgments of God.  The Lord does not bless our halfhearted efforts and lack of diligence in our spiritual nutrition efforts.  He makes us weak and sickly and asleep to righteousness that will bring the occasion for further scourging and trials in the appointed times.  This is the process of sanctification from the inside out.  We are to take heed to our doctrine and what we eat but we also take heed how we eat and the fruit and the works of our labor in the Lord. Examination is required.

Psa 119:59 I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies

Eze 18:28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

We need to embrace our judgment and strive to hasten the coming of the Lord (2 Pe 3:12) to gain dominion over our sins and move on towards maturity.  To get there we suffer and endure the tribulations which we have been appointed to.  We must do this if we are to make the grade and be in that blessed and Holy First Resurrection.

1Co 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

These Micah verses speak to us eating at the table of the Lord but doing it unworthily.  We cannot have it both ways.  We can’t serve two masters and we can’t eat at two tables.  This pollutes the temple of God, which Temple we are and provokes the Lord to jealousy and brings His wrath.

1Co 10:21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

Let’s look a little more at some of the symbolism.  Physical body parts foretell wisdom of spiritual body parts and what they represent.  Bones are the framework and pertain to doctrine, the foundation on which any matter and all truth is established.  The bones of Jesus Christ are His doctrines and the Scriptures we study and are living Words for God’s Elect.  The Scriptures are the Word that cannot be broken.

Joh 10:35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

Joh 19:36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

The Elect of God are Jesus Christ whom the world rejects and persecutes.  We are His Body and are His flesh and of His bones.

Eph 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

Being immature and yet carnal we will still be at enmity with the Lord’s doctrines and the stringent requirements for our walk.  We hate good and love evil and flip flop them in our rebellion that seeks to wrest away judgment (Isa 5:20-21).  Robbing God is plucking/spoiling (stripping) the flesh off His bones remembering who His body, His flesh and His bones are.  An example would be seeking dishonest gain for our supposed godliness.

Our skin is our covering as a Body.  The Lord makes provisions and gives us, the sinners, “His saving by grace through faith” coverings for our nakedness.

Gen 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

Stripping off the skin(s) is being an accuser of the brethren and exposing one’s nakedness.  We are commanded to not uncover the nakedness of our brethren.  Ham and his offspring were cursed for exposing the nakedness of his father Noah (Gen 9:22).  Judging righteous judgment is obeying this commandment and respecting who is Lord of all things.

Lev 18:6 None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.

It is a narrow way and we have commandments on how to deal with sin and confront our brothers and sisters.  Our obeying God in all things it what covers the sins of the Body.

1Pe 4:8 NKJV And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “LOVE WILL COVER A MULTITUDE OF SINS.”

Stripping off the covering of the body is exposing it to all kinds of evils.  That spirit is what must be cast out of us.

Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

We do this to ourselves of course but also to our neighbors and fellow brethren as prideful beasts that love to compare and measure themselves and judge in the flesh.  Looking down upon others and not judging righteous judgment is eating in the kingdom of God improperly.  When we do this we are eating strangled and torn meat which is another table rule we are commanded not to do.  The meat we eat, the Body of Christ is to be undefiled.

Act 15:29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

Lev 22:8 That which dieth of itself, or is torn with beasts, he shall not eat to defile himself therewith: I am the LORD.

Again the admonishment is to be careful and to take heed what we eat and to examine ourselves and our thought life.

Heb 13:9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

1Co 11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

1Co 11:29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

The Lord has us fall down and err from His ways to use our own wickedness to correct us and teach us proper eating methods in the house of God.  Grace from a jealous God are being poured out upon us that is breaking our bones and old way of life (Lam 3:4-5).

We eat the body of Christ when we partake in the suffering in filling up in the afflictions for the sake of the church.  This is the suffering to which we have been appointed.  This is the true communion of our dying daily.

Mar 14:22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.

Col 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church:

Act 14:22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Doctrine and knowledge is important and it must be we drink and eat in the Kingdom of God.  Yet we also must take heed HOW we eat.  Doing the word and loving God and our neighbor is  of greater importance and is the purpose of the Lord giving us the food and drink at His altar.

Rom 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Mic 3:4Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.

Our sin of eating wrongly is separating us from the Lord.  As our suffering and trials increase as “ye of little faith” we feel forsaken. All part of the Lord’s process to bring us to our wits end and we will thank Him in the end.

Isa 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Psa 107:27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end …..

Psa 107:31 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

Becoming a living sacrifice, that is the meat of an offering made by fire, is painful and will cause us to first cry unto the Lord to save our flesh.  But the flesh must go and the Lord is intent on destroying it not saving it.  So in those days, which is now on the house of God, the Lord is going to ratchet up the judgments in the whirlwind.  This is how we are being humbled and brought to our wits end.  He is not hearing the pleas and cries of our old man.

Pro 1:26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

Pro 1:27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you

Pro 1:28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

Pro 1:29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

Another OT witness of the Lord turning us into destruction and forsaking us for a little while to show us our sins and bring correction.

Deu 31:18 And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods.

Deu 32:20 And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith.

The Hebrew word raa H7489 which is the simple word for evil is where the translators used the phrase “they have behaved themselves ill” instead.  The Lord simply turns us over to Satan for the destruction of our flesh.  We do evil as the Lord is ordaining and in the appointed times be turned back through the power of His grace that comes from the Word.  That Word, which is “those bones cannot be broken”, and it is finishing the good work it starts.

Psa 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

Psa 34:20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

Php 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Looking back with time we will see the mystery of God at work in all of our evil and apostasy.  This is the only way to become like Him knowing good and evil.

Isa 45:3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.

Mic 3:5 Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that make my people err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.

The word for bite here is H5391 and here is how Strong’s defines it.

H5391, nâshak, naw-shak’

A primitive root; to strike with a sting (as a serpent); figuratively, to oppress with interest on a loan: – bite, lend upon usury.

Total KJV occurrences: 16

Serpents bite and sting flesh with their mouths.  This is what we do to our brethren and the flesh of Christ when we do not eat and drink properly at the Lord’s table.

Ecc 10:11 Surely the serpent will bite [H5391] without enchantment; and a babbler is no better

Ecc 10:12 The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.

We have to watch our words and ensure they are always seasoned with salt (Col 4:6).  We are called to pursue peace with all men and especially in the household of faith (Gal 6:10).  Interesting that this word for BITE is also the word for USURY or LEND.

Deu 23:19 Thou shalt not lend upon usury [H5391] to thy brother; usury [H5392] of money, usury [H5392] of victuals, usury of anything that is lent upon usury [H5391]

The related word H5392 means interest.  This tells us that we are not to be seeking gain of any kind.  Working in the fields of God is our reasonable service and our duty and we should expect nothing in return.

Mat 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

We bite the flesh, make war against our brethren when we communicate with such selfish hidden motives and agendas.  God’s people are to be unprofitable servants, not ones seeking and reaping profit in their service.

Luk 17:10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

We have to be wise to our prideful hearts and not allow ourselves to be puffed up, one against another.  Getting dominion over these thoughts and deeds is part of growing up and learning to eat and drink properly at the table of the Lord.

As the people of God, we go thru a season where we lust for meat.  We want knowledge above everything else and have an insatiable appetite to get more.  The Lord teaches us by turning us over to our idols of the heart.  We learn to seek meat in moderation by being judged for our excessive lusts for it as the story of the quail in Numbers shows us.

Num 11:33 And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.

A mature man in Christ will get past the carnal desires for gain and seeking riches in the Kingdom.  Doing otherwise is a snare and drowns us in perdition and keeps us from entering into His rest and ceasing from our own works.

1Ti 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

1Ti 6:8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

I hope we see more clearly the Lord’s hand in every aspect of our lives including causing us to err from His ways and do evil (Isa 63:17, Prov 16:9, Psa 78:49).  He does this to bring judgment and correct us and reshape us, His clay vessels, with water and with fire.  Both of which wash us and sanctify us as His bride without spot or wrinkle.

Isa 64:8 But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

We will Lord willing pick up next week with this theme of us perverting God’s judgment before we learn through much scourging grace and the tribulations to go with it, to judge righteously.  Given our roles in the Millennium and as the lake of Fire, we best take seriously this responsibility.  If we cannot be trusted to judge righteously and be faithful watchmen now, how will the Lord put us into even greater responsibilities?

Devouring the Devourers

We ended last week’s study with a reminder that “all things are yours” (1 Cor 3:21) and that it has been appointed for man, beginning with the Lord’s Elect to live by every word God has spoken. So these words and events and experiences we are studying are not for someone else.  They are for you and me and ultimately all men in the appointed times. I was reminded myself of this by one of the Lord’s angels recently and it has prompted me to remind you as well. Be patient as we endure these things. Christ “is, was and will be” formed in us by these painful trials and wrath that must be endured to put away our sin. That is why these words we are studying have been given to us. Our faith should make us happy if we trust in it and not the reasoning’s of the carnal mind.

Jas 5:10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

Jas 5:11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

Here are our verses for today’s study.

Nah 2:9 Take ye the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold: for there is none end of the store and glory out of all the pleasant furniture.

Nah 2:10 She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.

Nah 2:11 Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion’s whelp, and none made them afraid?

Nah 2:12 The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin.

Nah 2:13 Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.

Let’s recall how we ended last week when we reviewed Nahum 2:8

Nah 2:8 But Nineveh is of old like a pool of water: yet they shall flee away. Stand, stand, shall they cry; but none shall look back (repent).

Here we see ourselves taking the things of the Lord (His doctrine) yet continuing on having our way and not repenting despite all the heat and affliction this raging war in the heavens has already and is continuing to bring to us. The old man is indeed a stubborn beast. Verse 9 continues with this context and our taking the things of the Lord, plundering the store for our own glory and refusing to be obedient.

Nah 2:9 Take ye the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold: for there is none end of the store and glory out of all the pleasant furniture.

But the Lord has a method to His madness (His ways). New life only comes through death.  The penalty for stealing from our brethren or making merchandise of God’s Elect is death.  That thief that we all first are must go to the “tree” and die with Christ.

Deu 24:7 If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put evil away from among you.

Mat 27:38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.

Laying up treasures for ourselves means much more than just money or physical possessions.  It is in fact our own righteousness, our self-righteousness that is the mammon of Scripture.

Mat 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

Mat 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

Mat 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

When we spoil the Lord’s house by taking the gold and silver from the new man, to keep the old man alive, we are stealing from our brethren and that thief must die. Reaping what we sow means that we will be spoiled in return for our spoiling. Christ will recompense our thievery upon our heads and that is a very good thing.

Mat 12:28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

Mat 12:29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.

We can be 100% sure that all the reaping we do to our flesh, even that done in the name of the Lord; will be recompensed upon our head (Jer 2:19, Gal 6:7). This reaping of recompense, i.e. judgment, is exactly how the head of the beast is cut off and the new man increases. But it is a process; it is a war in our heart and minds! Here are some OT witnesses to this promise and reaping what we sow for oppressing the new man within and God’s sons without.

Pro 22:23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

Jer 30:16 Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.

Being unrepentant hearers of the Word but not doers, we are nothing more than thieves who are robbing God and not being a living sacrifice. Such thieves are being cursed in every age.

Mal 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

When we steal the things of God, His doctrine, the very treasures of the Temple and “buy and sell” them, we are a harlot merchandising the things of the Lord, making His Temple a den of thieves (Mar 11:17, Rev 18:12). Those in Nineveh (the capital of Assyria and Babylon) are the same carnally minded ones that takes the things of God and make their own defiled bread (Isa 4:1). Making our own garments of salvation, we are decked with gold and arrayed in the jewels of the temple yet we are “buying and selling” lies and making others (those that hear us) drink of our fornicating wine.

Rev 17:4  And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

Eze 16:17  Thou hast also taken thy fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest to thyself images of men, and didst commit whoredom with them

The beast we set up and worship in our religious zeal wants some glory. Sure we will share it with the Lord but we want a little credit; it is innate to the carnal mind. Yet the Lord will have none of it.

Isa 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images [our image of the beast]

Having true doctrine but not yet being tried in the fire of this baptism is our time of being puffed up and in need of nothing. We are taking the things of the Lord (the gold and the silver) but we are not yet obedient [“iswasandwillbe PROCESS”]. The Lord will intensify the war in our heavens through His messengers that will change this and cause us to repent (Heb 12:6, Ezek 38:4) in due time.

Rev 3:17  Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

Rev 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

The word translated “furniture H3627 more properly refers to vessels or instruments and we will see in our next verse how we misuse those vessels and must pay the wages for our sin.

Nah 2:10 She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.

We covered the emptying out of the harlot in part 4 of the Book of Nahum. Being void is where we are when we are separated from the Lord and not living in Truth. But even as Genesis tells us the day comes when “let there be light” is spoken and the spirit of the Lord begins to move over the waters that represent our flesh and the earth.

Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters

The melting and burning of the land has been an almost weekly commentary as that is the heart of the Lord’s process for remaking the marred vessel and re-birthing the new man. A jealous Lord will take vengeance on those who defile His Temple and blaspheme His Name.

Knees are the largest joint in the human body and are critical for how we move about and perform essential functions like standing up.  They represent the strength and independence of the flesh and the walk of the old man. The Lord is going to smote those knees as He shows us “we are sick and in need of a spiritual physician”. In due time every knee shall bow and be submitted at the name of Jesus.

Php 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

The story of King Belshazzar tells of this process and the resulting judgment.

Dan 5:3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.

Dan 5:4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

Dan 5:5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

Dan 5:6 Then the king’s countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.

The king of Babylon (you and me) then call upon a prophet of the Lord to tell us the interpretation and the spoken Words reveal to us that we have exalted ourselves by using and defiling the vessels of the Temple of the Lord. There are specific commands that tell us how to eat and drink properly we will look at shortly.  The penalty for misuse of the Lord’s vessels and instruments (i.e. the furniture of verse 9) is death and the old man is quickly slain in the spiritual darkness once our wickedness is revealed.

Dan 5:23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:

Dan 5:30 In that night (darkness, blackness) was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.

Being confused, mixing lies and Truth, and having to deal with being shown our sinfulness puts us in great inward pain to the very core of our spiritual being. Not yet knowing the fullness of the righteousness of the Lord we will travail as a woman trying to give birth. Looking back at the root for the word translated as pain [H2479] ties it with the process of judgment and the type and shadow of a woman giving birth.

H2479, chalchâlâh, khal-khaw-law’ – Feminine from the same as H2478; writhing (in childbirth); by implication terror: – (great, much) pain.

If you trace this word back to its initial root it is this Hebrew word H2442 that means to wait.

Three representing the process of judgment and five the chastening or scourging grace of God, Daniel’s Words are the reason why we are blessed when we are given to patiently endure to the end of our day of the Lord to be saved (Luk 21:19).

Rev 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

As strange as it seems to the natural man, the faces of them all gathering blackness actually refers to the Lord glorifying Himself in us. This is the positive outcome as Christ is formed in us through the destruction and affliction of the old man. The word for blackness here in Nahum 2:10 is this Hebrew word.

 H6289, pâ’rûr, paw-roor’

From H6286; properly illuminated, that is, a glow; as noun, a flush (of anxiety): – blackness.

Total KJV occurrences: 2

Looking at the root of H6286 we see a more often used word meaning glorified.

 H6286, pâ’ar, paw-ar’

A primitive root; to gleam, that is, (causatively) embellish; figuratively to boast; also to explain (that is, make clear) oneself; denominatively from H6288, to shake a tree: – beautify, boast self, go over the boughs, glorify (self), glory, vaunt self.

Total KJV occurrences: 14

glorified, 6 – Isa 44:23

beautify, 3

boast, 1

glorify, 1

glory, 1

vaunt, 1

Here is a good example of how this root word of blackness is used in the OT.

Isa 44:23 Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified [H6286] himself in Israel.

Everyone should be familiar with the studies on the colors posted on the IWWB site including the three part series on the color black. These studies are essential to know the positive and negative of every word of Scripture and rightfully divide the Word. The double edged sword hides the mysteries that the carnal mind cannot discern.  It should be no surprise that blackness has a positive meaning knowing this truth.

Psa 139:12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

When what we knew as Truth is shown to be lies, the war in heaven is in full swing. This defines the day of the Lord and why Christ came into this world (Joh 9:39).

Amo 5:18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end [is] it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.

Mat 22:13  Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Act 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

Our faces gathering blackness is a necessary step for the throne of the beast to receive the vials representing the wrath of God that will ultimately bring us to repentance.

Rev 16:10  And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,
Rev 16:11  And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

1Pe 2:9  But ye [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light

The next few verses will be dealing with lions and their dwellings and actions.

Nah 2:11 Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion’s whelp, and none made them afraid?

This prophecy is addressed to both the people of Nineveh and also to the people of Judah (Nah 1:15), another words you and me if we are the people of God. We must first go into Nineveh, aka Babylon, and be seduced by the harlot before we can come out of her my people (Rev 18:4). The prayer of Jacob for his son, Judah, tells us much about what this verse is saying.

Gen 49:9 Judah is a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?

Gen 49:10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

Judah, the Elect of God, is a lion’s whelp then a lion and then an old lion before Christ is raised in us. These three stages of spiritual growth and progression come by our judgment and the war we are studying here in the prophets. The lion is an image of a beast that is also associated with God’s Elect.

Rev 4:6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
Rev 4:7 And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.
Rev 4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

These words in Nahum are telling us that we are not abiding in the right place that we have not entered into the rest that remains for the people of God (Heb 4:9-10).

It is the sons of God who dwell in safety and none make them afraid. But in our immature state, being yet carnal we are not being at rest. We have not ceased from own works, we have not yet entered into the pasture that is Christ. The word translated feedingplace [H4289] in this verse is the same word almost always translated as pasture.

Eze 34:14 I will feed them in a good pasture [H4289], and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel.

Eze 34:15 I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord GOD.

We have to be taught the fear of the Lord it is not something we decide to do with our delusion of free will. We will be driven to the Lord when our prey is cut off and we the young lions hunger spiritually. We will be dragged to Christ and fed judgment which will teach us the fear of the Lord.

Psa 34:9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

Psa 34:10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

Psa 34:11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

Eze 34:16 I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment

The fat and strong are destroyed.  It is the poor in spirit the Lord is working with (Mat 5:5-9).

When we know “another jesus”, we are not afraid. We do not fear God and we are dwelling with seeming peace in the land. But we know that is all a false peace that will suddenly be shattered when Christ comes in the darkest part of the night, midnight.

We show we love God when we obey Him. Any other definition of love is false and is a witness we have not yet been taught the fear of the Lord.

1Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

The fear of the Lord brings obedience and that is what casts out the fear of men and us becoming prey for the adversary.

1Jn 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

When the Lord gathers His people on the mountain and feeds us with judgment then none will make us afraid. This is when He makes us lie down in green pasture next to still waters (Psa 23:1-3). Here are a few of many witnesses to this promise of perfect love (i.e. our obedience) casting out all fear.

Eze 34:28 and they shall no more be a prey to the heathen, neither shall the beast [Lions] of the land devour them; but they shall dwell safely, and none shall make them afraid.

Eze 39:26 After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid.

Zep 3:13 The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

Lions, like every word of Scripture, have both a negative and a positive meaning. But here the Lord is mocking the old man who is living a lie in strong delusion thinking he has peace when there is no peace (1 The 5:3, Jer 6:14). When we are yet carnal, our father the devil has plenty of food and is used of the Lord to devour us and eat our flesh.

1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Gen 3:14  And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

All Israel, God’s Elect, first fall prey to the adversary and our first mother of the flesh before we come into the haven of our spiritual mother in the Body of Christ. We all learn how to be very good lions in catching and devouring our prey which are our own people at this stage of spiritual immaturity.

Eze 19:1 Moreover take thou up a lamentation for the princes of Israel,

Eze 19:2 And say, What is thy mother? A lioness: she lay down among lions, she nourished her whelps among young lions.

Eze 19:3 And she brought up one of her whelps: it became a young lion, and it learned to catch the prey; it devoured men.

The end of the process we are enduring is that that old lion, that old adversary the Devil and Satan, along with his angels (and their chariots and horses) will be cast out of our hearts and our minds.

Rev 12:8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

When the Lord turns the tables and devours the devourers then the adversary within shall have no more resting place.

Our next verse looks at how we eat unworthily in our immaturity.

Nah 2:12 The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin.

The Lord uses the wicked as His sword. Our own sinfulness will be used to bring salvation as we have studied. We are the hearers but not the doers of the Word which must be humbled before Christ in us can be exalted. The process of judgment includes Satan and his lions devouring our flesh.

Isa 5:29 Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away safe, and none shall deliver it.

Jer 2:30 In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

When we are under the dominion of the adversary, the roaring lion seeking whom he may devour; we are being fed defiled meat and the dark crevices within are filled with lies that keep the ten horned beast submissive to his father, the great red dragon (Rev 12:3).  We are what we eat and what we are eating when under the adversary are lies and idols of the heart.

Rev 16:13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

Eating and drinking refers to spiritual matters and what we think and believe and take to heart. Doctrines and carnal reasoning are what we eat and drink, either meat or wine. We have seen this battle raging in the heavens being a war of thoughts all given to us by the Lord (Amo 4:13, John 15:5).We have many commands that speak of what we are to eat and drink and with regards to meat, we are told to not eat anything that is dead of itself and is torn or strangled among other commands.

Eze 44:31 The priests shall not eat of anything that is dead of itself, or torn, whether it be fowl or beast.

The message the early church sent to the Gentiles was telling them to take heed to their doctrine and what they eat spiritually. They were commanded not to eat any meat offered to idols, from blood, things strangled or fornication. Here was the punch line of the letter delivered by Judas and Silas after the elders met in Acts 15 to consider the issue of the Law of Moses.

Act 15:27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.

Act 15:28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

Act 15:29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

Being disobedient children first, we don’t obey these table rules on how we are to eat and must be punished with judgment.

The word translated as “ravin” here [H2966] in Nahum 2:12 is only translated that one time, and is most often translated as “torn of beasts” as these OT witnesses below attest. God’s people are not to eat ravened meat which is torn meat. That is only fit to be cast to the dogs who are those outside the covenant of faith.

Exo 22:31 And ye shall be holy men unto me: neither shall ye eat any flesh that is “torn of beasts” [H2966] in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs.

Lev 7:23 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Ye shall eat no manner of fat, of ox, or of sheep, or of goat.

Lev 7:24 And the fat of the beast that dieth of itself, and the fat of that which is “torn with beasts” [H2966], may be used in any other use: but ye shall in no wise eat of it.

One of our trials being in the world but not of it is that we are often put in situations where we are given these lies and carnal doctrines to eat or mediate in our mind. It is best to be separated and not engage in such eating and drinking. Even the example of Daniel being a captive in Babylon and refusing to eat of the meat or drink their wine is an example to all of us to this very day.

Dan 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

We simply can’t fit in with this world and eat at the Lord’s Table and the table of devils.

1Co 10:21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

Heb 13:9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

Heb 13:10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.

The way a lion is stopped from roaring is to cut off his prey. By stopping the eating of this strangled meat of the world and Babylon, the negative lions within us, the voice of the adversary, is silenced by being starved to death.

Amo 3:4 Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?

It is through death that the adversary is destroyed and there is no more prey, no more food for the lions. By losing our life, becoming a living sacrifice; we cut off the prey of the adversary.

Heb 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is,the devil;

Mat 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Rom 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

The holes where we hid out in the mountains are the crevices of lies and darkness that we feed on in our deception awaiting the Lion of Judah.

Isa 42:22 But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.

Rev 6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

Rev 6:16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

Here is our final verse for this study.

Nah 2:13 Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.

The adversary, the devil, like lions in the natural prey upon the weak and sick. This is the spiritually poor in spirit [negative application] but when Christ comes to make war this situation change.

Pro 28:15 As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

The brightness of the Lord’s coming happens suddenly in our spiritual darkness and then we are awakened to righteousness (1 Co 15:34). The war in our heavens will turn and the adversary will be put down as Christ increases and the old man decreases. Chariots are the lies and carnal doctrines and they will be burned in the smoke of the sacrifice of our old life. The sword of the Lord will devour the messengers of Satan, the young lions of that old serpent, the devil who is the father of lies.

The Lord will cut off the prey. The new man in us, the man child, will no longer be deceived and will no longer “buy and sell” in Nineveh. It is the beheading of the beast that cuts off the prey for the adversary and allows the new man, Christ in us, to flourish (Rev 20:4).

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

The lions of the adversary will be starved to death and the voice of the devil’s messengers, the messengers of the harlot as well; will be heard no more in the kingdom that is being put under the dominion of the Lion of Judah. Entering through the veil of flesh into the Body and abiding there is how the book is opened and the trumpets and vials of wrath are poured on the beast and his throne.

Rev 5:5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

These selected verses from Ezekiel 26 nicely speak to this raging war in our heavens and how the Lord purposes to destroy our carnality (the food for the lions) through His Body speaking Words of fire that consume the chariots, horses and horsemen of the adversary.  This is what destroys the carnal mind.

Eze 26:7  For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring upon Tyrus Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, a king of kings, from the north, with horses, and with chariots, and with horsemen, and companies, and much people.

Eze 26:9 And he shall set engines of war against thy walls, and with his axes he shall break down thy towers.

Eze 26:12 And they shall make a spoil of thy riches, and make a prey of thy merchandise: and they shall break down thy walls, and destroy thy pleasant houses: and they shall lay thy stones and thy timber and thy dust in the midst of the water.

Eze 26:13 And I will cause the noise of thy songs to cease; and the sound of thy harps shall be no more heard.

Next week we will begin Chapter 3 and cover the final verses of this prophecy that was written for our edification.

1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the AGE (world) are come.

Obadiah Part 4 – Out of Sion Comes the Deliverer (click to view, download or print PDF)

Out of Sion Comes the Deliverer

The word of Obadiah or any part of the Bible is not a history lesson as is typically the takeaway of the Babylonian churches and their false doctrines. These words are not a history lesson, these are words we shall live by. They are written for out admonition and we had best take heed the lessons.

1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Mat 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Let’s remind ourselves again to whom Obadiah was actually speaking and what the purposes were for writing these things down.

1Pe 1:10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

1Pe 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

1Pe 1:12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

1Pe 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

So we have seen in part 1 that the new man in us is given ears to hear and Christ the ambassador goes to preach the gospel to all the heathen nations. In part 2 we saw that we all first fall backward in the presence of Christ and are snared by the Word and the carnal commandments of the Law.  Last week in part 3 we showed it was the Lord’s plan that caused us to go astray and deliver up Christ and commit spiritual fornication by wresting away the judgment of God. And here in the conclusion of the prophecy, where we will see the Lord bringing vengeance through His minsters to take back all the kingdoms for His possession and usher in true righteousness.

Oba 1:15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.

Contrary to the lies of orthodoxy, no man will escape the judgment of God. One is actually blessed indeed the day they can read, hear and keep (begin to live out) the righteous judgment of God.

Rev 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

Joe 1:15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand (‘near’), and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

We all will indeed reap what we have sown (Gal 6:7).  The same Lord who turned us into destruction will turn us back (grant us repentance) by this process of judgment.

Psa 90:3 Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.

Joh 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

Jer 2:19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

Reaping our reward begins the days we hear the Word spoken by Christ the Ambassador.

Pro 25:21-22 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

Joh 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Plundering and then being plundered is the Lord’s method. Reaping what we sow … the IDOLS of our wicked hearts will be done away with by the brightness of Christ’s coming.

Jer 5:13 And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.

Jer 5:14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

It is those who are given to press into the Lord and dwell in this fire while He is near, while we are being judged, that Christ in us is being glorified. The nations within will bow now and the those without will bow in the ages to come.

Isa 55:5 Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.

Isa 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

Our next two verses are Oba 1:15-16

Oba 1:16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.

Oba 1:17 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.

We won’t know the Lord and be able to eat at His table within the Body of Christ until we first drink ‘wine and strong’ drink.

Deu 29:6 Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the LORD your God.

The sons of Zebedee’s mother came to Christ asking that her sons be allowed to sit with Him in the kingdom. His answer tells us of this wine of the wrath of God we must drink in our day of judgment in the times appointed by the Father.

Mat 20:23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

We only know the Lord when we are baptized into this fire that is the righteous judgment of God against our sinful nature and carnal mindedness. Drinking of the cup of wrath is the same as being baptized with fire and here we see again, like all things, we have no choice in the matter.

Jer 25:27 Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be drunken, and spue, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.

Jer 25:28 And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ye shall certainly drink.

Jer 25:29 For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.

We see this most assuredly drinking language again in Jeremiah 49 which is where we also see similar language to what is found in Obadiah’s prophecy against Edom.

Jer 49:12 For thus saith the LORD; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink of it.

The way we are given to drink of this cup is by being given ears to hear and understanding sound doctrine as we learned in Part 1 of the study.

Jer 49:14 I have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.

We are being ‘drug’ to Christ (John 6:44) by hearing the Word that judges us. We will come, we shall certainly drink.

Drinking of the wine of the wrath of God is how the old man will be destroyed and we will be delivered from the dominion of sin. Because we, in our rebellion to Christ made the nations drink of our fornication; we shall in turn be made to drink of the wine of the wrath of God poured out against our old man and carnal ways.

Rev 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

Rev 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

Notice it is only in the presence of the Lamb (The Body) and the angels of God (His Elect) that this drinking (aka judgment of the heathen nations within us) takes place. The heathen nations within us will be forced to drink on God’s Holy mountain in our day of the Lord and this is bringing about the death that is required for new life to come forth. Many disciples walked away from Christ when they hear of this requirement.

Joh 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed ………

Joh 6:66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

We are being reminded many times; it is in our patience that we possess our souls. The patience of the saints is in fact enduring, living thru, this period of great trial and affliction. We are given this blood to drink only because we have been counted worthy by the Lord’s choosing of being judged now.

Rev 16:5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.

Rev 16:6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

Rev 16:7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

As Obadiah verse 17 says, it is on Mt. Zion that deliverance comes. It does not come on any other mountain but only on and within The Christ which is Mt. Zion.

Joe 2:32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

Jer 50:28 The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of his temple.

Jer 50:29 Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

As false prophets we first claim to know the Truth and as a result we will be recompensed double. This is the two-fold child of hell we all make of ourselves and our hearers in our time in Babylon.

Mat 23:14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

Mat 23:15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

We are bearing the greater stripes and are recompensed a double portion.

Rev 18:5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
Rev 18:6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

Here is another witness to the false prophets we all are (claiming we see but yet blind) and the Lord recompensing our iniquity and sin double for being an abominable religious beast (Rev 13:11) in the temple of God.

Jer 16:16 Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

Jer 16:17 For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes.

Jer 16:18 And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their detestable and abominable things.

If we are in the true faith, we will be eating and drinking with Christ in the Father’s kingdom.  This is what we do through our fellowship and communion in the body of Christ.

Mat 26:29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.

We are the lake of fire to one another. The Word we speak is the fire that consumes the “wood” in all of us and that Word is what chastens us and teaches us righteousness in the days we are given to hear it. The lies and destruction of Babylon, that great harlot within must be completely destroyed and this happens in ZION (the Body) and by us drinking the wine of the wrath of God.

Our next verse of Obadiah follows.

Oba 1:18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.

Verse 18 brings out more fully the symbolism of fire and how that is the one baptism we must be baptized in that actually saves us. True baptism is all about fire not being sprinkled or dunked in a pool of water as the orthodox churches of men all teach us. The one that comes after our yet carnal “John the Baptist” days knowing “Jesus” in the flesh and being shown our sinful ways via the Law are just the precursor to the coming of Christ to us and the real baptism that follows.

Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

The fire that baptizes us is Christ; it being The Christ the Lord’s Body. We are the fire on the earth the Lord wanted already kindled.

Luk 12:49 I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?

Luk 12:50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!

The Body is the lake of fire today for those in the Body that is just a training ground for the role we play out in bringing all men to salvation in the lake of fire.

Rev 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Salvation comes by the destruction of the Lord’s enemies. That destruction comes via the fire that burneth.

Psa 97:2 Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.

Psa 97:3 A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.

Jer 15:14 And I will make thee to pass with thine enemies into a land which thou knowest not: for a fire is kindled in mine anger, which shall burn upon you.

This fire comes out of the mouth of God’s two witnesses which are you and me

Rev 11:5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.

Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

The messengers/angels in the Body are called ministers of a flame of fire.

Heb 1:7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

God’s SONS are indeed the light unto the dark world and together this house of Jacob causes Esau to burn to stubble.

Eze 1:13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.

The Way to the tree of life, which is Christ, is thru the ministers of flame which are also the Cherubim’s.

Gen 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

The Body of Christ are those the Lord will use to deliver on the promise of salvation to all men.

Joh 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

Now let’s look at verse 19.

Oba 1:19 And they of the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and they of the plain the Philistines: and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.

The whole of the land shall ultimately be possessed by Israel or as we read in verse 17, Jacob shall possess his possessions. This is the promise for God’s people that we shall be GIVEN dominion over the land within and the kingdom’s shall be the Lord’s.

Rev 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

The enemies of the Lord will all submit to the Word in the day of the Lord.

Psa 66:3 Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.

The whole purpose of the war in heaven is to bring the salvation and the dominion from the bondage from sin and oppression of this world.

Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Exo 6:7 And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

Exo 6:8 And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the LORD.

We could make standalone studies into the meanings and symbolism of the names used here in verse 19. These words are all spirit and have great spiritual significance beyond the scope of this study.  But we will hit on some highlights just to point out the great significance of every Word of God.

Before the kingdom’s within and without become the kingdom’s of the Lord, those of the south will occupy the lands around Israel. But the Lord will turn the tables and the plunders will themselves be plundered when judgment comes upon the house of the Lord.

H5045 – SOUTH

The word “negeb” is the strong’s word H5045 and it is always translated as south or southward without exception.

From an unused root meaning to be parched; the south (from its drought); specifically, the negeb or southern district of Judah, occasionally, Egypt (as south to Palestine): – south (country, side, -ward).

Total KJV occurrences: 112

But what is most instructive for us is to denote the root of this word which means parched.  Contrast a parched land and its lack of fruitfulness with a land flowing with living waters. It is the dry places where lying spirits seek and so they love the southland.

Mat 12:43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

The rebellious dwell in the dry land not knowing or having sound doctrine and in bondage to lying spirits.

Psa 68:6 God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

We are in a parched land, the south when we have forsaken Christ and in our self-righteousness making our own cisterns.

Jer 2:13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

Isa 4:1  And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.

We are in the south away from the Word that brings judgment when we hear the rumor that begin Obadiah’s prophesy. Henceforth the truth of sound doctrine begins to burn up the nations within.

Eze 20:46 Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop thy word toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field;

Eze 20:47 And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.

The south is the opposite of the north, which is where judgment always comes from and we know that the spoken Word is what shall judge us all in the last days.

Son 4:16 Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.

Jer 1:15  For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

So we see in Oba v19 that those from the south occupy the Mount of Esau, the plain of the Philistines, the fields of Ephraim and of Samaria. But this is prior to the coming of the saviors to bring this land back under the Lord’s dominion.

 H669

ephrayim

ef-rah’-yim

Dual of a masculine form of H672; double fruit; Ephrajim, a son of Joseph; also the tribe descended from him, and its territory: – Ephraim Ephraimites

Ephraim means double fruit and is a type of God’s Elect. Yet that fruit does not come forth until the judgment of God, the scourging, the chastening grace of Hebrews 12:6 first comes upon Esau.

Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Heb 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Benjamin being the youngest son of Jacob is a shadow of the immature Christ in us. The wilderness of Babylon we come out of is east of the Jordan River. In the same way the sun rises in the east and sets in the west; such is our direction of spiritual growth and maturity. Gilead is a region east of the Jordan and spiritually speaking is where we start out as babes in Christ.

The name Gilead is the name of the place where Jacob and Laban made a covenant of peace which will be suddenly destroyed when Christ comes in the “spiritual night”. We must be given to go beyond the river Jordan and then spend much tribulation conquering the giants in the land. Here is where we come out of Babylon and have the false peace and covenant’s we make destroyed when the saviors do appear.  (Isa 28:18,  1 Thes 5:3, etc)

We also know the significance of the Philistines in Scripture which are a symbol for the strength of the flesh and the beast within. That beast is being slain by the stone that is Christ and will also be beheaded by the sword of the Lord.  In type and shadow this is how we are given dominion over the flesh.

1Sa 17:50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.

1Sa 17:51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.

The fields and cities of Samaria are near to Jerusalem but still represent our time of being just outside the gates of the city where we still hear and prophesy falsely.

Jer 23:13 And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err.

Amo 6:1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

And yes saviors shall go through Samaria and evangelize (all nations) as we go seek the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Joh 4:3 He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.

Joh 4:4 And he must needs go through Samaria.

Verse 20 speaks the Lord reversing the situation in the Day of the Lord.

Oba 1:20 And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.

The captivity of the children of Israel shall end. Christ comes to set the captives free and to take captivity captive.

Psa 68:18 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.

Eph 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

The Canaanites nations have a lot of history with Israel and our associations with Canaan are likened to the days or merchandising the things of God where we peddle the Word of God deceitfully. But the new man will possess the land and the old man will bow down to Christ.

Zec 14:21 Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.

Rev 18:11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:

The references to Zarephath [H6886] relate to the place where the widow nourished Elijah and the meal flour was not consumed. The root of Zaraphath is [H6884] conjures up the process of refining metals in a furnace or smelter.

H6884

tsâraph

tsaw-raf’

A primitive root; to fuse (metal), that is, refine (literally or figuratively): – cast, (re-) fine (-er), founder, goldsmith, melt, pure, purge away, try.

Mal 3:3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

Isa 48:10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

Being fed the bread of life and partaking of this communion often is what brings the Lord to us and that works the refining process and death to our old way of life. The meal flour never runs out in the Body of Christ!

1Co 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

Sepharad [H5614] is only mentioned once in Scripture in Obadiah v20. Strong defines it only as a place in Assyria. Before we are given false doctrines in Babylon we are first the beast of the sea and in bondage to the world and that captivity must also be destroyed by the coming saviors.

Jer 50:17 Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.

Jer 50:18  Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

So the Assyrians enslave Israel in the same way Babylon does until saviours come set us free.

Joh 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Our final verse is a powerful testimony to the Lord’s use of His People to do His work on the earth.

Oba 1:21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.

Our final verse is one those active in the fellowship and attentive to the many teachings are very familiar with. This verse tells us of the role of Christ’s “Christ” as saviors of the world.  There are other witnesses to this truth including:

Rom 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:

Rev 14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.

I hope you catch the great significance of being active in fellowship/communion with the Body of Christ.  Christ through “The Christ” is The Deliverer.  Through Christ we will be saved from our enemies.

Neh 9:27 Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.

We are the Body of the Lord (not the Head) and are the instruments through which He does His work. We are the instruments that do the greater works that Christ said we would be doing.

Joh 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Mat 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

These being primarily spiritual statements, verse 21 tells us that we as Christ are the ones bringing all of this judgment, fire, wrath and destruction to the old man in ourselves and each other that have been prepared to hear His words. Yet the other side of that sword is what we are doing to the new man and there we are the light unto this world, bringing eyesight to the blind, hearing to the deaf and speaking to the dumb.

Luk 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Christ in us is the ambassador sent to the heathen nations within us and to those prepared to hear our words. The end does not come until this prophecy of Obadiah is taken to all the nations within.

Mat 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

There will certainly be outward application of all these scriptures but we must remember where the action is taking place now in the kingdom of God and in those nations within you and me (Luke 17:20-21).  Those that are given to endure to the end will be in that blessed and Holy First Resurrection and will be used to not only rule during the Millennium Reign but also to be the “lake of fire” that will judge the world in righteousness at the Second Resurrection.

Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Rev 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

All Israel shall be saved through the righteous judgment of Christ that will come thru the spoken Word.  It is thru the mercy of God’s Elect that all men shall obtain mercy in the appointed times.

Rom 11:31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy

What a calling we have been given. Let’s end this study with a reminder of this high calling and that we need to press forward (strive, labor, prosecute, examine…)  continually knowing that few there be shall find the way.

Php 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

Php 3:14  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Elect, salvation

Drinking of the Cup of God’s Wrath

lords supperMat 20:20 Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.
Mat 20:21 And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.
Mat 20:22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.
Mat 20:23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

The mother of the sons of Zebedee had no clue what she was asking as all of us will have no clue when we first seek to enter the kingdom of God. We don’t enter the kingdom by saying a 10 second sinners prayer or joining a church. We enter into the kingdom thru the temple that is Jesus Christ. We enter the kingdom only thru much tribulation and great suffering. We follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

All men will ultimately follow Christ and be baptized with the baptism of Jesus Christ. This is not speaking about being dunked in water in a Babylonian church. It is speaking about enduring the wrath of God against our old man and carnal nature. The marred vessel of clay, conceived in sin that we all are, will be destroyed before the new man can come forth from the darkness. This is the purpose of Baptism, to cleanse us of all that defiles and make us into the image of God. This happens for us thru the righteous judgment of God. While we think of baptism with water as it washes us, it also purifies and that comes by fire.

Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

The series of baptism’s that God works in our lives are all really all ONE BAPTISM. That is the baptism into Christ’s death and the destruction of our old man. Virtually the entire orthodox church believes at some level that salvation is avoiding having God’s wrath poured out upon us. Whether it be by rapture or by being protected by God, the doctrines of Babylon keep the multitudes in spiritual darkness not knowing the wonderful works of God to the children of men.

Psa 107:15 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

As this Psalm shows us that can see and hear, along with all the prophets, the way of salvation is thru judgment. We are not saved, which really means delivered from sin, until we come thru the judgment of God and endure God’s wrath against our old man. This amazingly is the story repeated in every Book of the Bible yet nobody except for a few God has opened their eyes can see it. But it is very good news when you do see it!!! The way of salvation and entering into the temple that is Christ is by living thru the wrath of God against our old man and carnal nature.

We always want to put off the judgment of God on someone else, the guy down the street, that bad guy over there. But it needs to come to us and all men in order for us to be delivered and for God to fulfill the promise of Jesus Christ. Here are some reasons why that is the case.

All men sin

Ecc 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

There are none who do good

Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Rom 3:11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
Rom 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

The soul that sins shall die

Eze 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die

We all will think we saved ourselves by making a choice for Christ. Yet the fact is we have sinned and continue to do so while we are in the vessels of clay. The purposes of marred vessels of clay, created in dishonor was for them to be destroyed and for us to be remade in God’s appointed times.

Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

God is the potter who is working all things in our lives, even evil things. It is to His glory He does it this way as Romans 9 makes very clear to those who have ears to hear.

Rom 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

So getting back to baptism and bringing in the title of this post, drinking of the cup of God’s wrath, we need to know that there is no sin that will not bear a just recompense from God. This does not change the fact, God is working it, He is causing all things to happen because He is. But this is the mystery and God’s way that the carnal mind cannot comprehend. We learn thru judgment. The old man dies by bearing the wrath of God. It only awaits God’s timing. He has a time appointed for all. God’s Elect rightfully teach of Universal Salvation, the very milk of the gospel and are often accused by carnal babes of promoting sin. Absolutely not. God forbid. This verse is as true as the verses that speak about the salvation of all men.

Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

ALL UNGODLINESS will bear the wrath of God. Even the ungodliness of God’s Elect, even atheists and Muslims, even carnal babes that are walking in strong delusion. There is no exception. I have continued to beat home the theme of judgment in my discussion comments in the past few months. If God will only open ears to hear these truths that reveal His character and His purposes in creating us marred in sinful bodies ON PURPOSE.

Rom 8:20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,

Rom 8:21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
Rom 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

Which is saying the same things told many places including:

Gen 2:25  And they were both naked (sinful), the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Psa 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Jer 18:4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

When are given to understand God’s ways and purposes by the revelation of Christ in us, then the true nature of God can be grasped and we will be able to come out of Babylon. So let’s look at judgment and how that is associated with enduring the wrath of God against our old man.

It is such a wonderful blessing to be chosen to be judged now. It’s right there if you can see it or hear the spiritual words.

Rev 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

We are blessed when all that “bad stuff” from the book of Revelation happens in our lives. This is the only way Christ will be formed in His Elect. Escaping the wrath of God is a false teaching of Babylon.

Rev 15:8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.

Many have been brought to some understanding of the spiritual, yet a few of these Babylonian lies such as this one being discussed and especially eternal punishment and the delusion that they have any free will, keep the light of the truth totally shut off and they grope around in spiritual darkness still bound in the bonds of Babylon. We shall all drink of the cup of God’s wrath against our old man. It only matters when that day has been appointed by the Father. All has been written and will happen in the order and sequence God has declared it to happen.

Here the words of the Prophet Jeremiah. You and me and all men shall certainly drink of this cup.

Jer 25:28 And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ye shall certainly drink.

And how does the Lord bring this about? How do we drink of the cup that Christ drank? We drink it because the Lord has called a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth.

Jer 25:29 For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.

God’s Elect are the earth, and it is in the earth that heaven resides. And all of these things pertain to the kingdom of God that is within us.

Luk 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

Luk 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

We need to learn to apply the Scriptures inwardly first. We will live them all whether we know it now or not.

Jer 22:29 O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.

When our day of judgment arrives, then and only then will we learn righteousness and come to know the true Christ. This judgment first begins at the house of God, His very Elect and it comes upon “their” earth.

Isa 26:9 With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

All that which defiles and all the nations that are within will be destroyed by the brightness of His coming. When are ears now hear the truth, our judgment begins in earnest and all our fleshly works and carnal doctrines will be destroyed by the fire, the hail, the destroying winds that are all references to the word of God.

Isa 28:17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.

Jer 5:14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

1Co 3:15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

The passages of Jeremiah 25, written as all the Scriptures in parables/proverbs to hide the meaning from carnal men tell of this wonderful work to the chosen children of men. This is the good news and the mystery of how Christ is formed in His Elect.

Jer 25:30 Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.

Jer 25:31 A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD.

Jer 25:32 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.

The slaying of the beast and the false prophet within, will be accomplished. The words of Christ once heard with spiritual ears will not return void.

Jer 25:33 And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.

Neither will the old man, the old Pete be lamented, it will be as dung and mean nothing to us anymore. Oh it will hurt and it is a process by which God strips us and lays bare all the idols of our heart and removes them from us. But to those that hear the words of Christ, this is good news and we will learn to count it all as joy.

Jer 25:34 Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel.

Jer 25:35 And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape.

Jer 25:36 A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and an howling of the principal of the flock, shall be heard: for the LORD hath spoiled their pasture.

There will be no rest but only great torment when this judgment first begins and we like JOB do not understand what is going on. These are the spiritual earthquakes sent by God to bring salvation to His chosen ones. God will turn loose the lion that is the devil to come wreak havoc on our old man and carnal way of life.

Jer 25:37 And the peaceable habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of the LORD.

Jer 25:38 He hath forsaken his covert, as the lion: for their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger.

Lest we still don’t believe that Satan is a servant of the Lord and does only what God tells him to do let’s look at this dialog.

Job 1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

Job 1:9 Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

Job 1:10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

Job 1:11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.

Job 1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

Yet a time will come when we will understand what God is doing. I have been blessed to come to that place of understanding and oh what joy. There is not a man alive that will not in due time drink of the cup of God’s wrath against their old man. This will begin suddenly and at a time when we think we are in need of no repentance and are not in need of a physician. But we know not at this time, how blind, naked and wretched we truly our. The beast that is sitting exalted on God’s throne will be thrown down and cast out by the fiery words of truth. This is how we will overcome and gain victory over our inward beast, the man of sin, the son of perdition that is within us all.

Rev 15:2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.

Revelation 14 describes God’s Elect who have been dragged out of Babylon and the world.

Rev 14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.

The three angels (God’s messenger’s, His Elect) will bring the true gospel to us and we will hear it and this will be the process by which salvation comes.

Rev 14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

All of us have received the mark of the beast in our forehead and in our hands. We have all worshiped the beast and the image of the beast thinking it was God. These are all words we shall live and experience and woe unto us if we take them out of God’s book and claim they do not apply to us personally.

Rev 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

The wine of God’s wrath are the false doctrines we all first believe from our Babylonian captivity. But when our day of judgment begins, the spiritual earthquakes and the shaking intensify. Whereas the doctrines of Babylon will cite Rev 14:11 as one of their eternal torment proofs, those with ears to hear know that this verse and whole chapter speaks about the good news, the judgment of God, that which is sweeter than honey against our old carnal man. The purposes of God’s fire and the brimstone, which is a purifying agent, is all for good. It is to circumcise our hearts and that is how we are actually converted on God’s timeline, not ours. The carnal translators wrote forever and ever whereas this should simply read eons of the eons, another words, the amount of time ordained by the Lord.

Rev 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Living through all of this judgment and bearing the wrath of God against our old man is the patience of God’s Elect. This verse makes no sense to the carnal mind and can only be understood if we know what God is doing in pouring out His wrath upon us.

Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

We saw earlier from Jeremiah how the Lord promised to bring a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth. A sword is nothing more but the WORD OF GOD, burning in our hearts and that is how the old man will be first lead into captivity in Babylon and then killed (the old man) by that same sword. It is two edged and again we see that living these things is the patience of the saints who are God’s very Elect.

Rev 13:10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

The Sum of HIS Word is truth

Many will jump to this verse from Paul’s letter and create a doctrine around it that says we will not endure God’s wrath. That is not what this verse says.

1Th 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

This chapter Paul is speaking about mankind, ALL MEN, and all this verse tells us is that all men will be saved, the very opposite of how it is used by the wolves that teach the lies of Babylon. We are appointed to salvation and the rest of God’s word makes clear that the way of salvation, being delivered from the dominion of sin in our lives, comes by living thru the wrath of God against our old man and carnal nature. Paul made that clear right here to the Ephesians, writing to the Elect saying they all were children of wrath, even as (all men) the others.

Eph 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Eph 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

The sum of thy word is truth just as Psalm 119:160 declares. The whole counsel of God is truth and we must never forget this verse.

2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of its own (private) interpretation.

Knowing the way of salvation is thru much tribulation and affliction is very comforting. It is how we can give thanks to God for all things, even the painful trials and suffering that we must endure. We can do this because we know why it is being done and where it is going to take. It is going to take us to salvation if we endure all the way to the end. It is going to lead to the prize, which is to be in the first resurrection and to rule and reign with Christ during the 1,000 symbolic years on this earth.

Knowing these things we can say come quickly Lord Jesus. Our flesh will want this judgment to be over quickly and it will seem much too long but is indeed just for a little while, relatively speaking.

2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

2Pe 3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

2Pe 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

2Pe 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

The new heavens and new earth is come to God’s Elect who have been thru their day of judgment and have been the first to die, all by the hand of God. The second death that will come to the multitudes shall not harm us as we will have already been killed and had our day of judgment, enduring God’s wrath already against our old man.

Rev 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Paul said the same things here. If we are judged NOW, we won’t be judged (condemned) with the world later in the lake of fire.

1Co 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

1Co 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

I am not ashamed of this gospel that very few have ears to hear or the faith to believe. I am rejoicing in the suffering knowing its purposes and why His judgment has come to me and to all of God’s Elect now.

1Pe 4:16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

1Pe 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

The judgment of God comes by eating His word, the little book that God’s Elect, His angels, give to us when we are given ears to hear. As Peter said, it begins at the house of God which is the same things the “angel” said to John.

Rev 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

When the rock that is Christ falls upon us, our old man and worldly ways will be ground to powder. The only offering acceptable to the Lord is one that is finely ground, so it can be burned in the fire of His word.

Mat 21:44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
