“Water Turned Into Wine”

We cover the first “miracle” of Christ in this study. The word translated as miracle in our Bibles is from the Greek word “dunamis” or Strong’s G1411. Dunamis is primarily the word for POWER as it is most often translated.  All the miracles depict the power of the Lord at work in the lives of His people.  This outward miracle of water being turned into wine is also the first inward miracle the Lord works within us that brings us into faith [believing upon Him] and thus begins our being transformed by grace into the kingdom of God.

Joh 1:17  For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

The entire scriptures are written in parable using spiritual language and dark sayings to hide the meaning of the Scriptures and keep all but the chosen few in darkness.  Here is just one of the many witnesses to this truth.

Mat 13:10  And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

Mat 13:11  He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

Mat 13:12  For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

Mat 13:13  Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

Ears to hear and eyes to see are indeed a blessing only the Lord can give that comes to very few in the appointed times (Mat 13:16, Mat 22:14).  Another layer of the Lord’s cloaking is that it’s not just the words but the events themselves that are done in parables.

Mar 4:11  And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

Let’s keep these truths in mind as we search for the application and spiritual significance to us of the Lord’s actions.  Here is this event, both a parable and a miracle as foretold in the Gospel of John.

Joh 2:1  And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:

Joh 2:2  And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.

Joh 2:3  And when they [the disciples] wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

Joh 2:4  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

Joh 2:5  His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

Joh 2:6  And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.

Joh 2:7  Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.

Joh 2:8  And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.

Joh 2:9  When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,

Joh 2:10  And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

Joh 2:11  This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

Let’s begin by noting that this miracle takes place on the third day after John the Baptist tells [us] of the coming of the Lord, the one who comes after him.  We are gathered to Christ on the first day (John 1:35-40) and then on the second day, all the disciples begin to walk with Christ and were told of the many miracles and great things to soon come (John 1:43-51).   These three days symbolize our entire walk, the entire process with Christ that culminates at the wedding feast on the third day.  It is at this wedding where we begin to eat and drink with Him in the kingdom of God. This is our day of perfection when we partake of the true bread of life and the new wine and are being raised up to new life with Christ.

Luk 13:32  And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

Hos 6:2  After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

Christ shows us in parable that eating his body and drinking His blood was the wine [faith and grace] of the new testament, the essence of eternal life.  New life comes only by death and that is what the living waters do when our time and hour for judgment is come when grace and truth meet us.

Joh 4:14  But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

We are raised to life through death as we drink with our Lord in His kingdom within us (Luk 17:21).  The gathering of the disciples and the mother of Jesus at this wedding feast represents “the day of the Lord” when we begin to eat of His flesh and drink of His blood [the wine, the cup of His indignation against our flesh. i.e. the scourging grace]  the very things necessary to die to death [the second death] in order to live with Christ.

Joh 6:53  Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

This gathering at the wedding in Cana [meaning “the branches”] is the gathering together of the church who are also the disciples of the Lord and collectively known as His mother and the brethren.

Mat 12:49  And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

Mat 12:50  For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

This first parable foretells of things that are not yet (Rom 4:17) as Christ reveals His secrets to His prophets (Amo 3:7) beforehand.

Joh 2:3  And when they [the disciples] wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

Joh 2:4  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

This feast is a shadow of us being gathered with Christ.  As His disciples, the Lord puts into us zeal and desire to know Him and seek His ways.  That is how we are drugged to Him.  That is what the wine will bring about and why we are given a desire to drink it at first not knowing the judgment it entails.  The wine the Lord serves is the faith of Christ which is far more than just knowledge of the Scriptures.  Drawn disciples want to know Him not know about Him.  This gift only comes and grows by eating His body and drinking of His wine [His cup].

Water is a symbol for the Word of God but is differentiated from wine.  Wine denotes the cup of the New Testament, also known as the cup of wrath of God against all our flesh and sins that we must drink to enter into the Kingdom.  There is no escaping our drinking this cup of wine (Jer 25:28) it is the one baptism of fire by which we are saved in the times appointed.

Mat 20:23  And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with…

The law and the prophets bring us to a point but they do not convert us.  To be transformed, faith is needed that brings with it the grace and truth that will save us.  When the living Christ is come, then the water is turned into wine and we grow in understanding which is transforming and healing us.

Mat 13:15  For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

Turning water [knowledge of the scriptures] into wine [knowing the Lord in spirit and in truth] symbolically is what happens in the day of the Lord in the hearts and minds of every man.  It is by going through “this hour” that the spiritually dead are risen and come to know the Lord receiving the great reward of His mind and His holiness.

Joh 5:25  Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

Joh 4:23  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

Christ’s time or “hour” had not yet come as He answered His mother as the 3.5 years of walking and preparing His disciples was not finished.  Later when His time to suffer drew nigh, the Lord tells us what to expect when He comes again in Spirit and in Truth and meets us again in the kingdom of God within.

Luk 22:14  And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.

Mat 26:27  And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

Mat 26:28  For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Mat 26:29  But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom. [the kingdom within you]

It is during this hour of judgment that we will be healed of all our spiritual infirmities and come to know the truth casting out all lies and defiling spirits of Spiritual Babylon (Luk 7:21, Rev 18:10).  This hour is the hour of our dying the Second Death as our Lord led the way.

Joh 12:23  And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. [and how is that accomplished]

Joh 12:24  Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

It is this judgment, this scourging grace that comes with our faith that is the word in action that becomes wine.  This wine makes the new man merry as we rejoice more and more as Christ is revealed in us.

Psa 104:15  And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man’s heart.

Zec 10:7  And they of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, and their heart shall rejoice as through wine: yea, their children shall see it, and be glad; their heart shall rejoice in the LORD.

It is the Lord’s angels (aka His Messengers, the very Elect) who preach the everlasting gospel (Rev 14:6) and bring the wine to the gathered disciples.  The purpose of this wine is proclaimed by these same angels.

Rev 14:10  The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation [the wine of the gospel]; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

Rev 14:11  And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

The instructions of Christ to the servants to bring forth new wine is instructive when we can see with spiritual eyes.

Joh 2:6  (NKJV) Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece.

Joh 2:7  (NKJV) Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.

Joh 2:8  (NKJV) And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it.

The six stone vessels represent us in our carnal unconverted state.  The six vessels like the number six symbolize man and specifically man’s flesh (666).  We are likened unto stones, hard-hearted and it is by this miracle of destruction by the Word [i.e. judgment, every stone is thrown down – Mat 24:2], that we are being made new and become the lively or precious stones (Rev 21:19) that make up the wall of the great city spiritual Jerusalem.

1Pe 2:5  Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Our unconverted vessel is first filled with the water representing the Word of God. That water is then converted into wine that brings about the destruction of death within us and the remaking of a new vessel or temple.

Rom 9:22  What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

Rom 9:23  And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

Two or three firkins (KJV) or “twenty or thirty gallons” as the NKJV translates, speaks to the differences in measures of faith between the unique vessels that comprise the Body of Christ.  Everyone gets the same water of the Word yet the measures of faith and what we can bear in manifold temptations and trials are different as determined by God.

Rom 12:3  (NKJV) For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

Rom 12:4  For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function,

When we [each stone vessel] are filled to the brim with the Word of God, there is no room left for any lies (demons) to return and take root.  This is how a vessel of stone is sanctified and prepared for every good work.

Joh 2:9  (NKJV) When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom.

Joh 2:10  And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”

The master of this feast is you and me in our immaturity and lack of understanding of the ways of the Lord.  Until we ourselves draw of these living waters and drink this wine, we will not understand the ways of God until we ourselves begin to serve it to others.  The flesh and our carnal mind prefer the old wine of the law that has us responsible for our salvation and being justified by our own works. What flesh wants to be a slave and dependent upon the Lord for all things?

Luk 5:37  And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined.

Luk 5:38  But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved.

Luk 5:39  And no one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires new; for he says, ‘The old is better.’ ”

A new vessel is needed for the new wine and the wine itself will bring that new vessel forth!  The new wine of the gospel is the best wine because it is what is saving us as we drink it and put to death our carnal mind and learn to walk by faith.  Learning to drink this wine is part of the patience of the saints and how we are brought to the place to seek it knowing the death it works against our old man is bringing forth the blessing of God our new man.

Rev 14:12  Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Rev 14:13  And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die [the second death] in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

Our being filled with this new wine is the beginning of our walking by faith embracing the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Faith, belief has now come!

Joh 2:11  This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.

The first outward miracle Christ performed is also the first inward miracle Christ performs in the kingdom of God within us.  Being filled with the knowledge of the Word that washes us, is then followed by that same water being turned into wine when our hour of judgment is come [the coming with fire].

Eph 5:26  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

It is through the water and the fire that we are given our reward and become rich in heavenly things.

Psa 66:10  For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried [in the fire]

Psa 66:12  Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.

The coming of Christ to us twice is revealed in hidden parable by first filling the stone vessels with water and then secondly transforming that water into wine.  The Lord begins preparing us from this very first miracle for service in His kingdom preaching the gospel unto all the world within and without.

Mar 16:15  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Mar 16:16  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

This miracle within us (Mar 4:11 – all things are done in parable) is what brings us into true faith when we actually believe in the Lord.  With this belief, thus, begins our day of salvation with is likened unto a thousand years [2Pe 3:8] and which will culminate in the greatest blessing of all time as we are being made partakers of His Holiness by drinking the wine (Heb 12:10-11).

Joh 11:25  Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live

Joh 14:20  At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

Joe 3:18  And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD, and shall water the valley of Shittim.

Drinking the wine of the gospel is what gets us beyond knowledge and brings us into true understanding and intimacy with our Lord where we love Him.

Eph 3:19  And to know the love [obedience] of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

The end of the miracle is that the disciples begin to follow Christ as He did not stay still but began moving through all the cities and towns within Israel in the kingdom of God within you and me.

Joh 2:12  After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.

Having been served this wine of the gospel, we are becoming spiritual wine stewards ourselves in service to Him.  Bringing the gospel to the rest of the dead within and without (i.e the Gentiles). The spiritually dead have never tasted of this new wine that is the very best the Lord makes. Yet a day, the last days for each, will come.  Faith will be followed with grace (wine) and all the dead (Gentiles) in the earth will be sanctified.

Rom 15:16  That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

We as the army of the Lord, speak the words of fire to those prepared to hear which is the same as serving our hearers a cup of wine that is working righteousness in them.

Rev 19:15  And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress [wine] of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

There are much more details and instructions on how we are to properly eat and drink in the kingdom of God and consume this wine.

1Co 10:21  Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

There are indeed different tables and cups of wine and we best not mix the two up.  Lord willing those can be topics for future studies.

The Righteous Shall Live by His Faith

Key Verses:  Hab 2:2 – 2:5

We continue in Habakkuk and the Lord now answers the prophet’s questions with words that were written for our admonition (1Co 10:11). To mature in faith we have to progress (be transformed) from being carnally minded and abiding in death (Rom 8:6) to standing on faith of the promises to come. Trials and our learning from them prepare us for more trials and finishing the race set before us. Habakkuk and all God’s Elect by extension (Mat 4:4) are being told of the grace of God that is to come which is saving us if we stay the course.

Heb 12:5  And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

Heb 12:6  For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Along the journey of faith, we all struggle at first with carnal fear, uncertainty and doubt as we wait for deliverance from the evil within ourselves and from this wicked world. We are learning righteousness more and more (Isa 26:9) when the Lord comes the second time in Spirit to His people.

Joh 16:8  And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

The Lord’s people are being made to dwell in the fire (Isa 33:13-14) and will become more comfortable and confident, with less doubting questions, as our faith grows. The “trials” are the process and are what is needed to grow faith in the Word and cut off the faith in our own abilities and flesh. This experience is manifesting the glory of God, (our obedience) little by little as we die daily (Gal 2:20, 1Co 15:31) with Christ.

2Th 1:4  So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:

2Th 1:5  Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

The Lord now answers our complaints about the prosperity of the wicked and how it will all end. The end is a future time, an appointed time which is promised to come but will require God’s people to live by faith and wait for Him to finish His good work.

Hab 2:2  And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

Hab 2:3  For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Hab 2:4  Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Hab 2:5  Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:

The only people who can read and discern the Scriptures are those the Lord has given the keys to the kingdom of God. These keys are the faith OF Jesus Christ and the accompanying eyes to see and ears to hear.

Mat 16:17  And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

Mat 16:19  And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

The Lord is not working with many people in this age. Indeed, few there be shall find the way of the Lord and even fewer given to endure to the end and be saved (Rev 17:14). Who sees and who hears, is 100% the Lord’s doing. It is only when we are dragged to The Body Christ, aka the Potter’s House, that spiritual ears are opened and we begin to run the race of faith.

Jer 18:2  Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.

The vision of judgment of the Lord’s enemies is sealed until the appointed time for every man (their day of the Lord) arrives. None will understand until that time is at hand and judgment has fallen upon the House of God. Those that can read and understand the words of the prophets are God’s people to whom the Scriptures were written and to whom the blessing of God’s judgment falls in this age.

Dan 12:9  And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

Dan 12:10  Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

It is only by our coming into the fellowship and communion with The Christ that the seals are being opened and we now begin to grow in understanding

Rev 5:5  And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

When Christ comes for salvation in our day of the Lord, we can hear and discern His Words that are “plainly” teaching us righteousness henceforth.

Joh 16:25 “These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.

The law of Moses including the ten commandments is a shadow of the true law of faith and the baptism by fire that will speak to us plainly and teach us the ways of Jesus Christ (righteousness).

Deu 27:8 And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly

Rev 1:3  Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

When this Word is unsealed and we read and hear and keep the judgment of God, then Christ is risen within us and the time is indeed at hand. Our flesh and wicked nations within are now being destroyed.

Rev 10:9  And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.

The raising of Jesus Christ from the dead within us begins the revelation of Jesus Christ and is the beginning of sorrows (our suffering for Christ’s sake). But as the Lord tells us, the end is not yet, we must endure through many more tribulations and judgments to be saved.

1Pe 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

1Pe 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time ….

1Pe 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

1Pe 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

1Pe 1:9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

The Lord is showing the prophet and commanding him to write these prophetic words for our benefit as Peter’s continuing words speak of this profound truth about the entire Old Testament.

1Pe 1:10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

1Pe 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow (suffering is the way of salvation that manifests God’s glory – our  obedience)

1Pe 1:12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

It is the “lively hope” which is the living and active faith necessary to see us through the trials and the suffering to which we as God’s people are appointed (Phi 1:29). Our hope of the promises to come is reminding us of the purpose of our trials and tribulations. Without hope, there is no joy and we would only have despair of the trials of this life.

Rom 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

Rom 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

Rom 8:24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

Rom 8:25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

We are of little faith in our immaturity and need to be told often and reminded of the Promise which is the vision that is to come that speaks of our salvation and deliverance from sin.

Hab 2:3  For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

We will get into the details of the vision the Lord is giving Habakkuk next week. There will be a series of five woes (grace through faith …. i.e. judgment) against the wicked within us that will humble Habakkuk and bring him to the place of understanding and acceptance of the Lord’s painful process. It is only after we live through these judgments that the wicked within are silenced and the fruit of righteousness appears.

Heb 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Which is the same as putting on the fine linen that is the righteousness of the saints.

Rev 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and whitefor the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

The time of the end refers to the end of the AION or the age. Inwardly these words speak to the end of our carnal age, the losing (conversion) of our carnal mind and fleshly way of life. When Christ has come to make war in our heavens, this age will come to its consummation as we live out the rest of our days in these clay vessels suffering through THE BLESSING that is the judgment of God poured out which manifests God’s love … our obedience in due time.

Rev 22:7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Many that walk with Christ for a season fall away and do not return because there are not steadfast (not given them) in their faith.

Heb 10:23  Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised;

Heb 3:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

The Lord is preparing His elect by giving us true doctrines and maturing us to bear the destruction of our flesh and carnal mind. The Lord is faithful to prepare us beforehand and give us a body (The Christ) in which to find comfort and support.

2Co 1:4  Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

2Co 1:5  For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

We are matured through many tribulations (Act 14:22), yet the Lord is faithful to prepare us for the “trouble that lies ahead”.

Hab 2:4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright [H3474] in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Hearing the word is followed by the process of converting us into doers or over comers as we walk out our faith. Our crooked (not straight, nor upright) paths of the carnal mind will be straightened or made upright as we sojourn in faith.

Pro 4:25  Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight [H3474] before thee.

Pro 4:27  Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

Mat 7:14  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

We are being made dependent on Christ and being stripped of reliance on anything else. We all stumble over the law of faith (Rom 9:31-32) by first relying on our own works to save us and not believing nor waiting on the Lord.

Php 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Rom 10:4  For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth …..

The trials of faith (judgments) are burning out all reliance on SELF, so that only faith is left.

Heb 12:26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.

Heb 12:27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Faith gives us access to the grace of God and the ability to stand in the fire and being saved. This is how endurance is established and strengthened as we grow in faith.

Rom 5:1  Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Rom 5:2  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Rom 5:3  And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

Rom 5:4  And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

Rom 5:5  And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God (our obedience)  is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Paul requotes the Lord’s words to Habakkuk and speaks of the cost of our discipleship and how we look beyond that to the promises of faith.

Heb 10:32  But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;

Heb 10:33  Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.

Heb 10:34  For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

Heb 10:35  Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

Heb 10:36  For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Heb 10:37  For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

Heb 10:38  Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

Heb 10:39  But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul (endure to the end)

Everyone in Orthodoxy knows and can cite Eph 2:8 that faith is a gift. But fewer know that the faith each of us have is not our own faith, it is the faith OF Jesus Christ. We are given a measure of the faith of Jesus Christ our Lord.  It is not of ourselves!

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Eph 4:7  But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

Romans 12:3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

To accomplish His will in our lives, the Lord is going to turn up the heat of His “grace-O-Meter” (Rom 5:20, Isa 48:10). Yet before we seek the Lord in faith, we err with our knowledge (wine) of the Lord. This all serves the Lord’s plan, nothing is wasted, and brings the occasion for our eventual baptism by the fire of His judgments (Rom 2:5).

Hab 2:5  Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:

We all go astray with the Lord’s wine which is knowledge of the truth. This knowledge puts into an old wine-skin of our flesh and carnal mind at first enables our beast to make merchandise (seek the gain of the world) of the Lord’s Word.

Rev 13:11  And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

Mat 23:5  But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

Living by every word requires us to first get drunk as did Noah (Gen 9:21) and have our nakedness (sins) uncovered.  The new wine needs to be put into a new vessel (Mat 9:17) which requires the first vessel to be destroyed through judgment (Jer 18:4). The knowledge of God put into our old mindset begins the process of destroying our man of sin which begins to build the new wine bottle (vessel).

Luk 5:37  And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.

Luk 5:38  But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.

It is the destruction of our old man that weans us off the milk and is teaching us to eat strong meat and bear the burden of dying daily with Christ in our sufferings.

Isa 28:7  But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

The kingdom of God is not about the knowledge albeit that knowledge is essential. Wine is the means to the end but not the primary objective.

Rom 14:17  For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

1Co 8:1  Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity [Love – OUR OBEDIENCE] edifieth.

Judgment is very much necessary to separate us from the world. God’s people are to be separated from the world and these heathen nations. We need a new mind, a transformation (Rom 12:2) and that requires Christ bringing a war in our heavens (mind – Rev 12:7).

2Co 6:17  Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

Rom 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The story of King Belshazzar in the Book of Daniel (Dan 5) is our story. We misuse the true vessels and wine of the Temple and eat and drink with the world and our idols and concubines to gather the nations (within and without ourselves) and win favor.

Dan 5:22  And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;

Dan 5:23  But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:

This disobedience, despite knowing the Truth, sets us up for destruction so the new vessel can be made by fire. In due time, we are being weighed and measured as was Belshazzar and we too will be found wanting or lacking that ultimately leads to the time of the end.

We fall down our “seven times” (Pro 24:16) but we learn to walk upright by these sins and mistakes and the subsequent chastening of the true grace of God.  The father of faith in type and shadow was Abraham, who was an example for us to follow, to find the true righteousness by faith.

Rom 4:20  He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

Rom 4:21  And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

Rom 4:22  And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

Rom 4:23  Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;

Rom 4:24  But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

The promise to Abraham was a shadow of the promise that has come and is coming and is given to God’s elect in this age. It is only God’s elect, the precious few, who are being justified in this life. We walk this narrow road of faith and endurance holding fast to the  precious promises to come.

Gal 5:5  For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

Next week Lord willing, we will cover the five pronouncements of woe. This is the vision the Lord has told Habakkuk is coming and will not tarry and we are to wait for it with all expectation. If we have been given the gift of faith and the time and opportunity to mature, we will be ready for what is coming upon us. We will stand strong in the faith and wait for the Lord to perform His Word.

Biblical Truth

The Book of Obadiah – Part 4

Out of Sion Comes the Deliverer

The word of Obadiah or any part of the Bible is not a history lesson as is typically the takeaway of the Babylonian churches and their false doctrines. These words are not a history lesson, these are words we shall live by. They are written for out admonition and we had best take heed the lessons.

1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Mat 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Let’s remind ourselves again to whom Obadiah was actually speaking and what the purposes were for writing these things down.

1Pe 1:10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

1Pe 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

1Pe 1:12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

1Pe 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

So we have seen in part 1 that the new man in us is given ears to hear and Christ the ambassador goes to preach the gospel to all the heathen nations. In part 2 we saw that we all first fall backward in the presence of Christ and are snared by the Word and the carnal commandments of the Law.  Last week in part 3 we showed it was the Lord’s plan that caused us to go astray and deliver up Christ and commit spiritual fornication by wresting away the judgment of God. And here in the conclusion of the prophecy, where we will see the Lord bringing vengeance through His minsters to take back all the kingdoms for His possession and usher in true righteousness.

Oba 1:15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.

Contrary to the lies of orthodoxy, no man will escape the judgment of God. One is actually blessed indeed the day they can read, hear and keep (begin to live out) the righteous judgment of God.

Rev 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

Joe 1:15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand (‘near’), and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

We all will indeed reap what we have sown (Gal 6:7).  The same Lord who turned us into destruction will turn us back (grant us repentance) by this process of judgment.

Psa 90:3 Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.

Joh 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

Jer 2:19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

Reaping our reward begins the days we hear the Word spoken by Christ the Ambassador.

Pro 25:21-22 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

Joh 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Plundering and then being plundered is the Lord’s method. Reaping what we sow … the IDOLS of our wicked hearts will be done away with by the brightness of Christ’s coming.

Jer 5:13 And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.

Jer 5:14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

It is those who are given to press into the Lord and dwell in this fire while He is near, while we are being judged, that Christ in us is being glorified. The nations within will bow now and the those without will bow in the ages to come.

Isa 55:5 Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.

Isa 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

Our next two verses are Oba 1:15-16

Oba 1:16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.

Oba 1:17 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.

We won’t know the Lord and be able to eat at His table within the Body of Christ until we first drink ‘wine and strong’ drink.

Deu 29:6 Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the LORD your God.

The sons of Zebedee’s mother came to Christ asking that her sons be allowed to sit with Him in the kingdom. His answer tells us of this wine of the wrath of God we must drink in our day of judgment in the times appointed by the Father.

Mat 20:23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

We only know the Lord when we are baptized into this fire that is the righteous judgment of God against our sinful nature and carnal mindedness. Drinking of the cup of wrath is the same as being baptized with fire and here we see again, like all things, we have no choice in the matter.

Jer 25:27 Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be drunken, and spue, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.

Jer 25:28 And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ye shall certainly drink.

Jer 25:29 For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.

We see this most assuredly drinking language again in Jeremiah 49 which is where we also see similar language to what is found in Obadiah’s prophecy against Edom.

Jer 49:12 For thus saith the LORD; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink of it.

The way we are given to drink of this cup is by being given ears to hear and understanding sound doctrine as we learned in Part 1 of the study.

Jer 49:14 I have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.

We are being ‘drug’ to Christ (John 6:44) by hearing the Word that judges us. We will come, we shall certainly drink.

Drinking of the wine of the wrath of God is how the old man will be destroyed and we will be delivered from the dominion of sin. Because we, in our rebellion to Christ made the nations drink of our fornication; we shall in turn be made to drink of the wine of the wrath of God poured out against our old man and carnal ways.

Rev 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

Rev 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

Notice it is only in the presence of the Lamb (The Body) and the angels of God (His Elect) that this drinking (aka judgment of the heathen nations within us) takes place. The heathen nations within us will be forced to drink on God’s Holy mountain in our day of the Lord and this is bringing about the death that is required for new life to come forth. Many disciples walked away from Christ when they hear of this requirement.

Joh 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed ………

Joh 6:66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

We are being reminded many times; it is in our patience that we possess our souls. The patience of the saints is in fact enduring, living thru, this period of great trial and affliction. We are given this blood to drink only because we have been counted worthy by the Lord’s choosing of being judged now.

Rev 16:5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.

Rev 16:6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

Rev 16:7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

As Obadiah verse 17 says, it is on Mt. Zion that deliverance comes. It does not come on any other mountain but only on and within The Christ which is Mt. Zion.

Joe 2:32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

Jer 50:28 The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of his temple.

Jer 50:29 Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

As false prophets we first claim to know the Truth and as a result we will be recompensed double. This is the two-fold child of hell we all make of ourselves and our hearers in our time in Babylon.

Mat 23:14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

Mat 23:15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

We are bearing the greater stripes and are recompensed a double portion.

Rev 18:5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
Rev 18:6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

Here is another witness to the false prophets we all are (claiming we see but yet blind) and the Lord recompensing our iniquity and sin double for being an abominable religious beast (Rev 13:11) in the temple of God.

Jer 16:16 Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

Jer 16:17 For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes.

Jer 16:18 And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their detestable and abominable things.

If we are in the true faith, we will be eating and drinking with Christ in the Father’s kingdom.  This is what we do through our fellowship and communion in the body of Christ.

Mat 26:29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.

We are the lake of fire to one another. The Word we speak is the fire that consumes the “wood” in all of us and that Word is what chastens us and teaches us righteousness in the days we are given to hear it. The lies and destruction of Babylon, that great harlot within must be completely destroyed and this happens in ZION (the Body) and by us drinking the wine of the wrath of God.

Our next verse of Obadiah follows.

Oba 1:18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.

Verse 18 brings out more fully the symbolism of fire and how that is the one baptism we must be baptized in that actually saves us. True baptism is all about fire not being sprinkled or dunked in a pool of water as the orthodox churches of men all teach us. The one that comes after our yet carnal “John the Baptist” days knowing “Jesus” in the flesh and being shown our sinful ways via the Law are just the precursor to the coming of Christ to us and the real baptism that follows.

Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

The fire that baptizes us is Christ; it being The Christ the Lord’s Body. We are the fire on the earth the Lord wanted already kindled.

Luk 12:49 I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?

Luk 12:50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!

The Body is the lake of fire today for those in the Body that is just a training ground for the role we play out in bringing all men to salvation in the lake of fire.

Rev 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Salvation comes by the destruction of the Lord’s enemies. That destruction comes via the fire that burneth.

Psa 97:2 Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.

Psa 97:3 A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.

Jer 15:14 And I will make thee to pass with thine enemies into a land which thou knowest not: for a fire is kindled in mine anger, which shall burn upon you.

This fire comes out of the mouth of God’s two witnesses which are you and me

Rev 11:5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.

Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

The messengers/angels in the Body are called ministers of a flame of fire.

Heb 1:7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

God’s SONS are indeed the light unto the dark world and together this house of Jacob causes Esau to burn to stubble.

Eze 1:13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.

The Way to the tree of life, which is Christ, is thru the ministers of flame which are also the Cherubim’s.

Gen 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

The Body of Christ are those the Lord will use to deliver on the promise of salvation to all men.

Joh 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

Now let’s look at verse 19.

Oba 1:19 And they of the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and they of the plain the Philistines: and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.

The whole of the land shall ultimately be possessed by Israel or as we read in verse 17, Jacob shall possess his possessions. This is the promise for God’s people that we shall be GIVEN dominion over the land within and the kingdom’s shall be the Lord’s.

Rev 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

The enemies of the Lord will all submit to the Word in the day of the Lord.

Psa 66:3 Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.

The whole purpose of the war in heaven is to bring the salvation and the dominion from the bondage from sin and oppression of this world.

Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Exo 6:7 And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

Exo 6:8 And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the LORD.

We could make standalone studies into the meanings and symbolism of the names used here in verse 19. These words are all spirit and have great spiritual significance beyond the scope of this study.  But we will hit on some highlights just to point out the great significance of every Word of God.

Before the kingdom’s within and without become the kingdom’s of the Lord, those of the south will occupy the lands around Israel. But the Lord will turn the tables and the plunders will themselves be plundered when judgment comes upon the house of the Lord.

H5045 – SOUTH

The word “negeb” is the strong’s word H5045 and it is always translated as south or southward without exception.

From an unused root meaning to be parched; the south (from its drought); specifically, the negeb or southern district of Judah, occasionally, Egypt (as south to Palestine): – south (country, side, -ward).

Total KJV occurrences: 112

But what is most instructive for us is to denote the root of this word which means parched.  Contrast a parched land and its lack of fruitfulness with a land flowing with living waters. It is the dry places where lying spirits seek and so they love the southland.

Mat 12:43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

The rebellious dwell in the dry land not knowing or having sound doctrine and in bondage to lying spirits.

Psa 68:6 God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

We are in a parched land, the south when we have forsaken Christ and in our self-righteousness making our own cisterns.

Jer 2:13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

Isa 4:1  And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.

We are in the south away from the Word that brings judgment when we hear the rumor that begin Obadiah’s prophesy. Henceforth the truth of sound doctrine begins to burn up the nations within.

Eze 20:46 Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop thy word toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field;

Eze 20:47 And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.

The south is the opposite of the north, which is where judgment always comes from and we know that the spoken Word is what shall judge us all in the last days.

Son 4:16 Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.

Jer 1:15  For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

So we see in Oba v19 that those from the south occupy the Mount of Esau, the plain of the Philistines, the fields of Ephraim and of Samaria. But this is prior to the coming of the saviors to bring this land back under the Lord’s dominion.

 H669

ephrayim

ef-rah’-yim

Dual of a masculine form of H672; double fruit; Ephrajim, a son of Joseph; also the tribe descended from him, and its territory: – Ephraim Ephraimites

Ephraim means double fruit and is a type of God’s Elect. Yet that fruit does not come forth until the judgment of God, the scourging, the chastening grace of Hebrews 12:6 first comes upon Esau.

Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Heb 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Benjamin being the youngest son of Jacob is a shadow of the immature Christ in us. The wilderness of Babylon we come out of is east of the Jordan River. In the same way the sun rises in the east and sets in the west; such is our direction of spiritual growth and maturity. Gilead is a region east of the Jordan and spiritually speaking is where we start out as babes in Christ.

The name Gilead is the name of the place where Jacob and Laban made a covenant of peace which will be suddenly destroyed when Christ comes in the “spiritual night”. We must be given to go beyond the river Jordan and then spend much tribulation conquering the giants in the land. Here is where we come out of Babylon and have the false peace and covenant’s we make destroyed when the saviors do appear.  (Isa 28:18,  1 Thes 5:3, etc)

We also know the significance of the Philistines in Scripture which are a symbol for the strength of the flesh and the beast within. That beast is being slain by the stone that is Christ and will also be beheaded by the sword of the Lord.  In type and shadow this is how we are given dominion over the flesh.

1Sa 17:50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.

1Sa 17:51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.

The fields and cities of Samaria are near to Jerusalem but still represent our time of being just outside the gates of the city where we still hear and prophesy falsely.

Jer 23:13 And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err.

Amo 6:1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

And yes saviors shall go through Samaria and evangelize (all nations) as we go seek the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Joh 4:3 He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.

Joh 4:4 And he must needs go through Samaria.

Verse 20 speaks the Lord reversing the situation in the Day of the Lord.

Oba 1:20 And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.

The captivity of the children of Israel shall end. Christ comes to set the captives free and to take captivity captive.

Psa 68:18 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.

Eph 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

The Canaanites nations have a lot of history with Israel and our associations with Canaan are likened to the days or merchandising the things of God where we peddle the Word of God deceitfully. But the new man will possess the land and the old man will bow down to Christ.

Zec 14:21 Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.

Rev 18:11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:

The references to Zarephath [H6886] relate to the place where the widow nourished Elijah and the meal flour was not consumed. The root of Zaraphath is [H6884] conjures up the process of refining metals in a furnace or smelter.

H6884

tsâraph

tsaw-raf’

A primitive root; to fuse (metal), that is, refine (literally or figuratively): – cast, (re-) fine (-er), founder, goldsmith, melt, pure, purge away, try.

Mal 3:3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

Isa 48:10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

Being fed the bread of life and partaking of this communion often is what brings the Lord to us and that works the refining process and death to our old way of life. The meal flour never runs out in the Body of Christ!

1Co 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

Sepharad [H5614] is only mentioned once in Scripture in Obadiah v20. Strong defines it only as a place in Assyria. Before we are given false doctrines in Babylon we are first the beast of the sea and in bondage to the world and that captivity must also be destroyed by the coming saviors.

Jer 50:17 Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.

Jer 50:18  Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

So the Assyrians enslave Israel in the same way Babylon does until saviours come set us free.

Joh 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Our final verse is a powerful testimony to the Lord’s use of His People to do His work on the earth.

Oba 1:21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.

Our final verse is one those active in the fellowship and attentive to the many teachings are very familiar with. This verse tells us of the role of Christ’s “Christ” as saviors of the world.  There are other witnesses to this truth including:

Rom 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:

Rev 14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.

I hope you catch the great significance of being active in fellowship/communion with the Body of Christ.  Christ through “The Christ” is The Deliverer.  Through Christ we will be saved from our enemies.

Neh 9:27 Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.

We are the Body of the Lord (not the Head) and are the instruments through which He does His work. We are the instruments that do the greater works that Christ said we would be doing.

Joh 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Mat 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

These being primarily spiritual statements, verse 21 tells us that we as Christ are the ones bringing all of this judgment, fire, wrath and destruction to the old man in ourselves and each other that have been prepared to hear His words. Yet the other side of that sword is what we are doing to the new man and there we are the light unto this world, bringing eyesight to the blind, hearing to the deaf and speaking to the dumb.

Luk 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Christ in us is the ambassador sent to the heathen nations within us and to those prepared to hear our words. The end does not come until this prophecy of Obadiah is taken to all the nations within.

Mat 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

There will certainly be outward application of all these scriptures but we must remember where the action is taking place now in the kingdom of God and in those nations within you and me (Luke 17:20-21).  Those that are given to endure to the end will be in that blessed and Holy First Resurrection and will be used to not only rule during the Millennium Reign but also to be the “lake of fire” that will judge the world in righteousness at the Second Resurrection.

Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Rev 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

All Israel shall be saved through the righteous judgment of Christ that will come thru the spoken Word.  It is thru the mercy of God’s Elect that all men shall obtain mercy in the appointed times.

Rom 11:31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy

What a calling we have been given. Let’s end this study with a reminder of this high calling and that we need to press forward (strive, labor, prosecute, examine…)  continually knowing that few there be shall find the way.

Php 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

Php 3:14  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
