For Our Admonition Part 17

“Remaining Vigilant and Overcoming Fear”

Key Verses:  Jdg 7:1 – Jdg 7:15

After being given the affirmative signs that the Lord was blessing Gideon’s work and the land would be blessed (signs of the dew), Gideon prepares to engage in warfare with the Midianite army.  This lesson is for us to learn of God’s ways in waging spiritual war against our inward enemies that are the carnal thoughts and lies that ensnare us all in unbelief.   Here is our first set of verses for this study.

Jdg 7:1  Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.

Jdg 7:2  And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

Jdg 7:3  Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten.

Jdg 7:4  And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.

Jdg 7:5  So he brought down the people unto the water: and the LORD said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.

Jdg 7:6  And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.

Jdg 7:7  And the LORD said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.

Jdg 7:8  So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

The army of Israel camping out at the well of Harod tells of Gideon’s yet fearful state of mind regarding the battle he has been tasked with leading for the Lord.   Camping at the well of Harod, which is a name only mentioned this one time in all of Scripture, signifies what we see more expressly in Jdg 7:10-11 which we will cover shortly.  Harod is Strong’s H5869 and means eyes and comes from a root word H2729 which means afraid and which well is referred to as fountain of tears or fountain of trembling.  We, like Gideon, even after being given mighty signs, still fear the flesh and going into the hot fire that is needed to wage spiritual warfare.  There is some growing still needed.

2Co 5:7  For we walk by faith, not by sight (our physical eyes or senses):

The young and immature new man will be greatly oppressed by design (Rom 8:20) by the heathen nations representing the carnal mind and its millions of lies and false doctrines (Rev 9:16).  We overcome our fears of men and fears of judgment by first giving into such fears and being overcome with fear.   The wisdom of God has us being strong in Spirit by first being shown we are weak in the flesh (2Co 12:10).  It’s only when we have no hope in ourselves that the Lord takes over.

Exo 14:14  The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

Psa 56:2  My enemies would hound me all day, For there are many who fight against me, O Most High.

Psa 56:3  Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.

Psa 56:4  In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?

Php 3:3  For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

We first find Moreh, the place of the Midianite camp, mentioned in the Bible as the place on the west side of the Jordan in the land of Canaan.  It was here the Lord spoke to a new journeyman Abram to encourage him.

Gen 12:6  And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.

Gen 12:7  And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.

Those words of the Lord were like rain on a dry earth which brings forth righteousness. The Midianites are camped by the hill or Moreh which means rain [H4175] and comes from a root [H3384] meaning to teach.  It takes the Word of God, the doctrines of Christ (God’s rain Deu 32:1) falling from the clouds and the heavens to bring judgment.  The assembly of the Midianites at Moreh in the valley of Jezreel signals that judgment has come to deliver the land. The former and latter rains (Words and doctrines of Christ) are what curses the old man and brings the blessing to the new man by way of judgment.

Joe 2:23  Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain [H4175]  moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain [H4175], and the latter rain in the first month.

Heb 6:7  For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

The Midianite camps are strongholds and idols of carnal thinking that live in the valley and depressions of our earth.  Those valleys will be filled with spiritual blessings, which is the judgment of the old man.  That is how all flesh is being saved.

Luk 3:5  Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;

Luk 3:6  And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

The stage is set for the Judge of Israel (Christ in His Elect) to begin judging the nations and cleansing the land within us.  Yet there is a problem in that Gideon (and you and me in our immaturity and weakness of faith) is still afraid of the fight ahead. Christ becomes unattractive quickly when we realize there is more to it than knowing doctrine.

Luk 14:33  So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

There is no turning back.  We have to get over the hump and be willing to lose everything to be used of the Lord in judgment of the nations within and without.

Luk 17:32  Remember Lot’s wife.

Luk 17:33  Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

What is the Lord’s response to us being weak in faith and still fearing the war with the flesh?  His ways are not our ways whatsoever!  Instead of giving us more resources to comfort us in our carnal reasoning, the Lord strips what little comfort we might have by taking away 99% of our army in reducing it from 32,000 to 300 men.  The winnowing down of the army is a well-known parable (Hos 12:10).  Coming to understand the Lord’s ways and fighting spiritual warfare always brings us back to faith and not trusting in our own abilities.  There are three primary lessons learned in the process of the Lord winnowing down Gideon’s army.

The first macro lesson is that God’s Elect, who is the Israel of God, is a very SMALL group.  It is indeed very few that make up His people and the army by which the nations are being and shall be judged and subdued is, was and will be.

Mat 22:14  “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Luk 12:32  Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

The Lord will have it be known that He is the Saviour and Deliverer and we are merely the instruments through which He works His greater works (Oba 1:21, Joh 14:12).

1Co 1:29  That no flesh should glory in his presence.

The Lord only appears to and is choosing this 1% (300/32000) who have been prepared to know they need repentance (Luk 15:7) and a Saviour to save them from their enemies.  It is this same small army by which the heathen nations within ourselves and without are judged by the fiery Word we speak (Jer 5:14) at the appointed times.  The battle with the Midianites is a type and shadow of this end time battle as Christ is revealed in us.

Rev 19:11  And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

Rev 19:13  And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

Rev 19:14  And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

A second key lesson in this story of winnowing down the army, is that the fearful don’t make the cut and are unable to accomplish many miracles and good works in their unbelief.  Those not given the gift of faith will continue to fear men and are sent away as they cannot be used of the Lord.

Rev 22:15  For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Where faith lacks and unbelief rules, not many mighty works get done and that includes the works in purging the Midianites within us.

Mar 6:5  And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

King Saul was rejected as king for his disobedience in not killing all the Amalekites.  His disobedience was because he feared men and obeyed them rather than God. This is our inward battle we fight every day with the Midianites.

1Sa 15:23  For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

1Sa 15:24  And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

Twenty-two thousand (22,000) that feared went home leaving 10,000 in the camp.    The fearful have been purged yet there is more purging to prepare the weak and despised army of Christ for a successful conquest.

The third and most noteworthy lesson as it pertains to this parable is the requirement for vigilance (faithfulness) in our walk of faith.  The opposite of vigilance is lasciviousness where we turn the grace of God and the law of faith into a lazy justification (Jud 1:3) to stop striving at every turn to stay on this narrow road.  The NON-vigilant are not going to make it.

Rev 17:14  These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

We are not faithful when we are not vigilant in discerning between the good and the evil and acting in a godly way. We get there by experience and use.

2Co 10:3  For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.

2Co 10:4  For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,

Heb 5:14  But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Lord willing, we are being given a spirit of vigilance and be chosen of the Lord to fight against the Midianites within ourselves so we can make that blessed and first holy resurrection.  The lapping of water like a dog or a leopard is a metaphor for what the Lord wants His army to be doing in always keeping guard and watching.

1Pe 5:8  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Mat 26:41  Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Luk 12:35  “Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning;

Vigilance differs from a similar word “diligence” mainly in the aspect of watching. Both denote the act of being careful and being conscientiousness.  The vigilant keep watch or else so they will not be overcome and snared by Midianites and others evils.

Rev 3:3  Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

Our failures to be vigilant require a repeat of the fiery grace lessons (Rom 5:20) and experiencing anew the wrath of God against our unbelieving and lascivious ways.

1Th 5:6  Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

1Th 5:7  For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

1Th 5:8  But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

With the army now reduced to 300 men, Gideon waits on the Lord who then gives the command to go take the Midianite camp.  The very thing that disqualified the majority of Gideon’s army, being fearful; has now afflicted Gideon, the judge and mighty man of valor in the making.  Gideon still fears even after the four times the Lord proclaimed victory (Jdg 6:14, 6:16; 7:7, 7:9) and despite having been given three confirming signs.

Jdg 7:9  And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand.

Jdg 7:10  But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host:

Jdg 7:11  And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host.

Jdg 7:12  And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.

Jdg 7:13  And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.

Jdg 7:14  And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.

Jdg 7:15  And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

Until faith is given to the few, men of all kinds, even religious ones, remain in bondage to fear.  The shadow of true faith, the law of Moses, commanded that Israel be not afraid before engaging their enemies.  This law further requires the priests to come speak and encourage the people!  Sharing our testimony is what the Lord’s priests do in helping one another overcome their fears and reminding us often that the victory is already won.  It is the duty of God’s priests to lift up one another and bolster faith and confidence in what the Lord wills for His people that believe.  The battle truly is the Lord’s.

Deu 20:1  “When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the LORD your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.

Deu 20:2  So it shall be, when you are on the verge of battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people.

Deu 20:3  And he shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel: Today you are on the verge of battle with your enemies. Do not let your heart faint, do not be afraid, and do not tremble or be terrified because of them;

Deu 20:4  for the LORD your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’

Overcoming fear of death takes strong faith and it is passing that point of maturity that brings lasting deliverance.

Heb 2:14  Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

Heb 2:15  And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Gideon, like all of us, is commanded to engage in war needs strengthening and encouragement by his fellow “neighbors and laborers” in the faith. The Lord tells Gideon to go with a servant named Phurah to the camp of Israel’s army and listen to what he hears spoken.  Phurah is a name only found in the Bible in these verses of Judges 7.  It comes from a root word H6288 meaning young branches, new shoots or sprigs like of a tree or plant.  Gideon is Phurah as he is still young in service yet he in shadow, like all the elect, are mighty men of valor that will be the instruments of judgment and salvation to the entire human race which is ALL ISRAEL (Mat 19:27, 1Co 6:2).  Being made ready requires us to walk with Christ through His Christ and be taught war.

Pro 24:5  A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

Pro 24:6  For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.

1Ti 4:10  For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

1Ti 4:11  These things command and teach.

Angels of the Lord, our fellow brethren, who have walked before us are there to lead us through the tough times with comfort, encouragement and exhortation.  Even our Lord needed strengthening when in a body of weak flesh.

Luk 22:42  Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

Luk 22:43  And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

Psa 34:7  The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

The KJV calls the man sharing his prophecy (dream) a “fellow” but that word is much more commonly translated as neighbor or friend.  We are friends of the Lord and true friends of one another when we obey God, which is how we love God and one another (1Jo 5:3, Joh 15:14).  It is our fellow servants that minister as priests of God to each of us in our time of need.  Fellow servants are used to reveal Christ in us and show us how to make war with the enemies of Christ.  We are the army of the Lord that is following the Lord, the Word of God, riding on the white horses and following Christ .

Rev 19:10  And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

His Word fitly spoken by angels, will strengthen us and help us to stand strong.

2Ch 20:15  And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

Eph 6:10  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

The details of the neighbor’s dream signify that it is thru the laying down of our life as a living sacrifice that we overcome the Midianites.  Barley is symbolic for the first fruit harvest of the grain crop in Israel and symbolizes the Lord and His Christ who are a type of firstfruits (Jas 1:18, 1 Co 15:20).  Christ is this Bread which is the Word of God.

Joh 6:50  This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

Joh 6:51  I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

This  Bread of Life coming into a tent or dwelling place is going to turn everything upside down and great shall be the fall of that former house.  The dream is one and this same bread is also known as rain that comes upon the old carnal man’s dwelling.

Luk 6:49  But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

The symbolism is multi-faceted as the Word is also likened to an ax that is worked by a deliverer who is also ax men or hewers of wood the very meaning of Gideon’s name.  Gideon’s sword, which is his ax, is used to chop down the wood that is the tree and carnal-mindedness (Midianite mindset) of all mankind.

Mat 3:10  And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

The enemies of the Lord, which are carnal thoughts and minds the world over, will all be converted in due time, beginning in the hearts and minds of the elect who are being judged now by this same Word, rain and ax!

Rom 12:20  Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

Psa 66:3  Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee

Gideon hears the dream, the Spirit of prophecy, from his brethren and through this experience, he grows in faith and obeys the Lord in leading Israel into battle.

Jdg 7:15  And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

Gideon like all of us are learning to walk by faith and not by what he sees and processes with a carnal mind through physical senses.  The brethren play an essential role in developing one another and building confidence in the Word and His precious promises.  It is why we are to break Bread often in communion with one another.

1Co 11:24  And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

1Co 11:25  After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

1Co 11:26  For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

We end the study with a reminder of who we are battling as God’s people and how we are to be prepared to fight and stand on faith wearing all the armor.

Eph 6:12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Eph 6:13  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

As we are able to live more and more each day Lord willing, we will progress further in cleansing the land of the Midianite nation and judging righteously.

Take Heed of False Doctrines

Lonely_RoadThe way of the truth is not only narrow but we are also told only a few there be shall find it.  So it might seem a little lonely until we are given to understand who is Jesus Christ and brought together in fellowship with these other like minded believers which are the true Body of Christ.  It is in that fellowship where Christ is in the midst and we are taught of the Lord.  The sum of the word is truth and that truth is comprised of the doctrines of Jesus Christ which is also what saves us.  We are admonished to place great importance on doctrine and warned throughout of false doctrines that really are false gods and another jesus.

1Ti 4:16  Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Carnal minded men that walk after the flesh have corrupted the true doctrines of Jesus Christ and that corruption was completed even before the Bible was finished being written.  What we see today in orthodox Christianity is all lies, there is no truth, every single doctrine has been corrupted with idols. Other recent posts have covered the truth that we only come into understanding the true doctrines of Christ if we are so chosen of God and He sends that rain upon the land within our hearts and minds.

Deu_32:2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:

Pro_4:2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. (Christ doctrines not law of Moses)

Being Vigilant

Only the few Elect will learn sound doctrine and this only by the process of being dragged to Christ as babes and weaned off the milk of Jesus Christ and Him Crucified that is all Babylon can receive.  So this post won’t make much sense to those that are yet carnal and stuck on the milk and unable to move beyond.  But I know some of you will understand.

Isa_28:9  Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

Once we are given as God’s Israel the true doctrines by the revelation of Jesus Christ, we must never let our guard down and be vigilant in guarding our spiritual hearts and what we eat.  The story of how God chose the 300 warriors with Gideon tells us how important being vigilant is to the Lord.  Only those who drank water by cupping their hands while not taking their eyes off the perimeter (taking heed) were chosen to fight for the Lord.

There is great significance in this story and many others we will explore in this post.  Tolerating false doctrines in our fellowship and calling that loving our neighbor is one of the most insidious wiles of the devil .  The Lord is very serious about His truths and considers any cankering of His gold and silver to be a serious abomination.  This post will explore that seriousness and help us to see just how narrow the way of life is.  Many are called but very few will find the way thru the narrow gate.

Mat 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

Mat 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

The broad way and wide gate is where we are at when we do not take heed to our doctrine.  We will go along with the traditions of this world and not heed the Lord’s commandments yet we will claim to be loving people.  As a brother likes to say we will be going along to get along and this is deception.  The way of life is truly narrow and we must strive to stay on that path working out our own salvation with fear and trembling.

Php 2:12  Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Purging out ALL of the false doctrines of Babylon is essential if we are to move on to maturity and become sons of God and rule in the millennium. Being in this first resurrection is the prize, the crown of life for which we press onward and upward for as there is no greater honor in the kingdom of God.  God is not looking for the weak of faith who will not obey all of His commandments and separate themselves from false doctrines.  There are so many esnamples of this message given to us in the Old Testament but very few can hear these messages and even fewer are given the faith to obey them. One of the most insidious false doctrines is the one that has tolerance and acceptance of others disobedience as love.  The mantra is let’s just “love” everyone and get along.  While we are to love everyone, we are also as spiritual man to judge all things and we must know the very definition of love.

1Co 2:15  But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

This false love mantra has snared many an aspiring man of God who are stuck as carnal babes and can’t move beyond the milk of the word.  We can not approach the world with the idea of going along to get along, that is a wile of the devil.  We must walk the narrow path, which is fraught with error on both sides or else we can easily run astray into a spiritual ditch.

Before we get into several examples of Scripture, we must not forget these admonitions on false doctrines first and foremost apply to us and what goes on inwardly in our wicked and deceitful hearts.  Don’t put all of this out there on the fool down the street.  No this is you and me in our season and yes it also includes outward applications on who we fellowship with and where we break bread and discuss the the doctrines of Jesus Christ.

The Mixed Multitude

In type and shadow we see that when we first leave Egypt, this mixed multitude and all of their flocks go along with us.

Exo_12:38  And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle.

Symbolically, in type and shadow, the mixed multitude represents the mixture of flesh and spirit and specifically the combination of the true doctrines of God with man’s carnal reasoning’s.   It is simply the fruit of spiritual fornication and ensures the doctrine and the people would not be pure and will remain  unclean.  From the outside the mixed multitude will look like the real deal, looks like Jesus, sounds like Jesus but it is another jesus and is a lie.  At first we won’t know the difference and will only come to know the error of allowing this mixed multitude into our spiritual houses later as we mature and our used of God to build His wall. The mixed multitude within us and without (others outside the true church) will lead us into whoredom with other gods and away from the purity that is Jesus Christ.  They were the ones that lead Israel away from its suffering for the sake of righteousness and grumbled of the requirements of God and ultimately spoiled the entire camp in the wilderness.

Num 11:4  And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?

Num 11:5  We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:

Num 11:6  But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.

And remember I can’t say this enough, don’t think this is that deceived person over there, this is you and me as we start out on our journey to the truth and understanding the mysteries of the kingdom.   It takes time for us to mature and we all will bring flesh along with the Spirit initially.  Lord willing we will be given to move beyond the error.

If you read this entire story it was about the mixed multitude getting Israel to complain to God they had no meat.  God answers their compliant and idol by giving them tons of quail but they were not yet able to eat that meat and many died.  This weak grumbling spirit of the mixed multitude will not be willing to pay the cost of true discipleship.  This spirit is of the flesh and must be cast out.  We must not allow weaker brothers or sisters in the faith to bring in their doubtful disputation, whining and grumbling and the deadly leaven that spoils the bread of life.

Rom 14:1  Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.

Those building the wall of the Temple in Nehemiah when they discovered their error, quickly separated from them.

Neh_13:3  Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.

This may not seem very loving to those yet carnal babes but God is serious about it.  We are to do the same and that includes not only the doctrines within us but also those we allow into our spiritual houses.  A common leaven brought into the true church relates to wanting to keep months, days, times and seasons as Paul spoke about in Galatians and Romans 14.  Not going to get into that here except to just state, giving those days up is a stumbling block to the spirit of the mixed multitude.  This spirit is willing to give God most of the glory but still clings to parts of the old man in order to avoid the persecution and rejection God’s Elect must incur from those called but not chosen.  Carnal babes that are not given repentance from their heresy on day keeping or any false doctrine need to be put out of our fellowship as we are told.  Here is Paul loving advice on how to deal with those who bring such leaven.

1Co 5:7  Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

1Co 5:8  Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

1Co 5:9  I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: (spiritual fornicators)

1Co 5:10  Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.

1Co 5:11  But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

BABYLON’s FALSE LOVE

The true Israel of God will tremble at the word and be very serious about weeding out all false doctrines and false brethren from their midst.  It is a wile of the devil to get us to compromise “did God really say” and rationalize the little bit of leaven to enter into our midst.  The flesh has even come up with the word love to define such compromise and what is wrong with just getting along with people and living in peace?  What is wrong with that is that it is not love by God’s very definition.  It is deception and rebellion against the commandments of God. Don’t let this mix multitude pretender spirit fool you.

1Jn 5:2  By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

1Jn 5:3  For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

We are told that the truth has no lie in it, and it is the whole truth, the unadulterated truth that will set us free and deliver us from our bondage.  Fitting in with this world and avoiding persecution is fornicating with this world, playing the harlot and we all will do unless and until the Lord burns it out of us.  But deceived men will continue to claim the name of God and bring lies mixed with the truth and call that love.   Any lie we may be living ensures we have not the truth.  There is no lie in the truth.

1Jn 2:21  I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

We have to separate from these false doctrines and those that bring them in, unless they repent of their sin.    This is a serious commandment.  The carnal mind will oh so easily rationalize away what the Lord is really doing.

Luk 12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

2Co 6:14  Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

2Co 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

2Co 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

2Co 6:17  Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

In my past immaturity, I was unwise in dealings with those who had some truth but also brought in leaven and cankered God’s true gold.    Those that do this, which will be all of us in our times;  are fornicating with their father the devil’s wife.  We are to have nothing to do with his harlot wife and need to get her and her lies out of our presence. Lest we think this is harsh and unloving let’s see what the Scriptures say.

1Co 5:1  It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, (mixing truth with lies) and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife (the harlot)

Eating in Scriptures refers to the doctrines we believe and take to heart.  We are not to be eating with any so called man of God who hold to these idols, is drunk on false gospels and fornicating with the harlot.  We are not to let them into our spiritual houses.

1Co 5:11  But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

This eating speaks about fellowship and discussing the things of God.  We are to separate from all who bring this fornication and walk as men committing whoredom with the world.  The carnal mind won’t accept this as love but that is what it is as doing it is obedience to the Lord.  We have some more loving words on this topic from the Apostle John that those plagued by Babylonian diseases do not appreciate and want to ignore.

2Jn 1:9  Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

2Jn 1:10  If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

2Jn 1:11  For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

Somebody bringing  the Trinity, Eternal Torment, Free Will, the fall of mankind, holiday keeping, etc is abiding NOT in the doctrine of Christ and we are given very clear instructions on what we are to do. A wise scribe will bring the truth, the treasures of God’s word out of both the old and the new.  Hopefully we know that all the Old Testament was written as ensamples, types and shadows of spiritual lessons God’s Elect would be living by every word.

1Co 10:11  Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Let’s look at a few of these Old Testament  stories, there are many to pick from.

Deuteronomy 7

These physical commands given to flesh Israel are types of what we are to exercise in the land and the kingdoms within us.  These commands that speak of the land are speaking of what is in our hearts and minds.  We must not fornicate worldly logic and mix it with the truth of God’s word and His commandments. Doing such is cankering the gold and that is what Babylon has indeed done.

Jas 5:3  Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you

Here are the commandments of the Lord about keeping our land clear of false doctrines.

Deu 7:1  When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;

Deu 7:2  And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:

Deu 7:3  Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.

Deu 7:4  For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.

We cannot let this happen or like King Solomon we will apostasize and stop following the one true God.  We must do what seems harsh to the world and the carnal mind, we must utterly destroy all those idols and false images of God and burn them with His word.

Deu 7:5  But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.

Deu 7:6  For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

Deu 7:7  The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:

We are to test all things and to try the spirits. If we really took this to heed and did this with ears to hear we would readily see the leaven in the doctrines being served to us and we would stop eating it.  Here is what we are commanded to do with all of the idols of flesh and carnal mindedness that would have us pervert the truth of God’s word and lead His people astray.

Deu 7:25 The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.

Many are called and only few are chosen to be God’s Elect.  If we are God’s Elect once shown the truth, we will obey this commandment.  Beware the leaven of the Pharisees which simply means the doctrines of the churches of men.

Joshua 7

In the taking of Jericho, which in type is overcoming our old man within, we are given a harsh lesson on the seriousness of keeping God’s doctrine pure.  A man named Achan secretly brought back some gold and silver and other treasures and brought a curse upon Israel.  The man had to be put out from among them and that was the love of God.

Jos 7:20 And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:

Jos 7:21 When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.

The silver and the gold are the false doctrines of Babylon that need to be purged not hid in our earth!

Jos 7:22 So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.

Jos 7:23And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the LORD.

Jos 7:24And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.

Israel takes all this Babylonian stuff, the doctrines, the garment of self-righteousness, all the instruments of work and takes it outside the camp where it will be burned with fire.  God is very serious about His word.

Jos 7:25 And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.

Jos 7:26And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.

Leviticus 14

The law gave us in types and shadows the truth on how God’s Elect are to deal with false doctrines.  Those false doctrines are likened to leprosy, a deadly incurable disease.  All traces of leprosy had to be removed diligently and with thorough inspection. Such is the case with the doctrines of Jesus Christ, the way is narrow and just a little bit of leaven spoils the entire lump.  So removing all specks of error and carnality is of the utmost importance.  Here this truth in these commands in Leviticus 14, knowing God’s Elect are the priests and the house is the temple of God that is within us.

Lev 14:34  When ye be come into the land of Canaan, which I give to you for a possession, and I put the plague of leprosy in a house of the land of your possession;

God puts the false doctrines in our houses, He sends them to us in order to try us and see if we will keep His commandments about keeping His doctrines pure.

Lev 14:35 And he that owneth the house shall come and tell the priest, saying, It seemeth to me there is as it were a plague in the house:

Lev 14:36Then the priest shall command that they empty the house, before the priest go into it to see the plague, that all that is in the house be not made unclean: and afterward the priest shall go in to see the house:

Lev 14:37  And he shall look on the plague, and, behold, if the plague be in the walls of the house with hollow strakes, greenish or reddish, which in sight are lower than the wall;

Lev 14:38  Then the priest shall go out of the house to the door of the house, and shut up the house seven days:

Lev 14:39  And the priest shall come again the seventh day, and shall look: and, behold, if the plague be spread in the walls of the house;

I am abbreviating the story here as it is quite long and meticulous telling us just how serious this issue is.  We are to identify and get everything out of our house that is not the true gold of God’s word.

Lev 14:40 Then the priest shall command that they take away the stones in which the plague is, and they shall cast them into an unclean place without the city:

Lev 14:41 And he shall cause the house to be scraped within round about, and they shall pour out the dust that they scrape off without the city into an unclean place:

Scraping the walls to get every tiny speck of false doctrine out of our house.  This is how serious God is and it is amazing how blind we can be and rationalize away the seriousness of God’s word and call that love.

Lev 14:42  And they shall take other stones, and put them in the place of those stones; and he shall take other morter, and shall plaister the house.

Lev 14:43  And if the plague come again, and break out in the house, after that he hath taken away the stones, and after he hath scraped the house, and after it is plaistered;

Lev 14:44  Then the priest shall come and look, and, behold, if the plague be spread in the house, it is a fretting leprosy in the house: it is unclean.

Lev 14:45  And he shall break down the house, the stones of it, and the timber thereof, and all the morter of the house; and he shall carry them forth out of the city into an unclean place.

Lev 14:46  Moreover he that goeth into the house all the while that it is shut up shall be unclean until the even.

Lev 14:47  And he that lieth in the house shall wash his clothes; and he that eateth in the house shall wash his clothes.

Lev 14:54  This is the law for all manner of plague of leprosy, and scall,

The Amalekites – 1 Samuel 15

This is a story of King Saul, the rejected anointed first man “carnal” man Adam in all of us.  Saul is told to go and destroy the Amalekites and leave nothing alive and to kill all including animals, woman and children.

1Sa 15:3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

This again tells us how serious God is about cleansing our heavens and clearing the land of all that defiles and He is speaking of our doctrine.  But Saul disobeys and when confronted with this sin, tries to say He did obey the commandment and rationalizes the disobedience as we all do when we hold to false doctrines and keep holidays or believe lies lie the trinity.  We are serving another jesus and have not the living God abiding in us when we do such things.  You and me will all be this rebellious person until and unless the Lord grants to us mercy.

1Sa 15:20  And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

Look at the justification for the sin.  He blames it on the others, what the crowd is doing, the majority and states they took these things so they could use them in their worship of God.  That is the sacrifice.  This is an abomination to the Lord as we saw in Deut 7.  We cannot take the practices and doctrines of the heathen and attach Jesus to it and they claim it is okay.   That is exactly what man has done with regards to keeping of times, days, and seasons such as Christmas, Easter and Birthdays.

1Sa 15:21But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.

And then the prophet of the Lord has to correct the carnal minded rebellious Saul who will not be able to enter into the kingdom of God.

1Sa 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

The penalty is very harsh.  The Lord will have nothing to do with Saul or our rebellion and playing the harlot with this world.  The way is indeed narrow.

1Sa 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

And Samuel, a type of God’s Elect does what we are commanded to do and that is to separate and no longer even eat a meal with a so called brother who brings in false doctrines.

1Sa 15:26 And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

Samuel also then does what Saul did not do and put the heathen king to death with a sword.

1Sa 15:33And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.

There are several more stories in the Old Testament that tell of this same commandment to guard our hearts and not let this false deception of “love” and “tolerance” enter into the camp of Israel.  We truly must take heed of our doctrine and try the spirits to see if they are of God.  We must never lose track of the definition for the love of God, it is not pleasing men.

1Ti 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

CONCLUSION

Many that come into knowledge of the truth will fall away.  We all will do it as we must live by every word.  But you can be sure if a message is popular with many, than it is likely not a true doctrine of Jesus Christ.  His doctrines don’t please flesh and are a stumbling block.  Don’t let this happen to you.

2Ti_4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears

We must examine ourselves to see if we are in the true faith.  Many have gone astray, gone the way of Baalam who for gain and acceptance disobeyed God and caused Israel to commit whoredeom with the world.  We always remember the talking donkey story but may fail to realize that later on, Baalam did indeed succeed in causing God’s Elect to commitment whoredom and mix carnal logic with God’s truth.  We must get it out of our fellowship and have nothing to do with it.

Num_31:16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague (spiritual leprosy) among the congregation of the LORD.

Don’t let this plague come on you, take heed to thy doctrine.  We are multiple warnings against committing this error and allowing it to overtake us in our narrow walk.

Jud 1:11Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

Rev_2:14  But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

Not everyone or everything is Holy as the carnal mind and spirit of Korah will want to claim.  Woe unto us when we water down the word of God to be accepted by those around us and remove from ourselves the persecution that inevitably arises when we stand firm.  If we are not worthy to carry the cross of Christ, we simply are not worthy of Him and will not be in the first resurrection.

Mat 10:38  And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

That is really what is happening when we give in to the schemes of Satan and fall for this deception of false love and make fitting in and being accepted the will of our other jesus.  Anything we do to take away the reproach from others and the enmity the world will have against God’s Elect we are making our own bread and have left the doctrines of Jesus Christ.   This is self righteousness and we had best take heed of this error and trap.

Isa 4:1  And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.

Wearing a coat of many colors as given to us by God will cause the world to hate us even without a cause.

Joh 15:25  But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

God’s Elect will follow their Lord and they too shall be hated without a cause.  Anyone compromising the doctrines of Christ is seeking to avoid carrying the cross.  Unless they are given repentance, we should keep ourselves withdrawn from all such men that call themselves brothers.

1Ti 6:3  If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

1Ti 6:4  He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

1Ti 6:5  Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

So be caution and keep your guard up knowing that many deceivers have gone out into this world.  We must know our bibles and stay in fellowship with the Body of Christ if we are going to stay on this narrow path.  Remember, the way is hard, it is narrow, we cannot take out our part of this book and living by every word.  If we find ourselves doing things to please men and fit in with those in the world, keeping holidays as an example, then you can be sure one has strayed off the path.    Here is a very serious warning to all regarding sound doctrine.

Rev 22:18  For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

Rev 22:19  And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Lord willing I will no longer be blaspheming His name and preaching false doctrine like I did in my former ignorance.  The true doctrines are so much more than just the salvation of all men and His Elect, we must be given to go beyond this milk if we have hope of being in the first resurrection.  The fire of God is burning in my belly and the zeal of His house has consumed my old man and has led me to become a speaker of the true gospel that is founded on sound doctrine.

Tit_2:1  But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
