“Being Saved by The Light”

Key Verses: Hab 3:4 – 3:11

The formerly wayward prophet (“Shigionoth”) who is now seeing the light of truth, continues with his Psalm of accountability and repentance wherein Habakkuk acknowledges the Lord’s hand in every phase of the life of Israel.  This is our story and our words, as we come to see truth and acknowledge we live by every word.  We are being taught of the Lord through judgment while we ourselves walk in the light (by fellowship) which is saving us from sin.

1Jn 1:7  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Here are the new verses we will explore in this seventh installment of Habakkuk.

Hab 3:4 And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand: and there was the hiding of his power.

Hab 3:5 Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet.

Hab 3:6 He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting.

Hab 3:7 I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: and the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble.

Hab 3:8 Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath against the sea, that thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of salvation?

Hab 3:9 Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.

Hab 3:10 The mountains saw thee, and they trembled: the overflowing of the water passed by: the deep uttered his voice, and lifted up his hands on high.

Hab 3:11 The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear.

Our salvation comes only through revealing of the man of sin that we are as natural brute beasts.  That revealing only comes through the brightness of the Lord’s coming as Paul tells us.

2Th 2:8  And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

Yet that coming is now and has been occurring every generation since Pentecost.  The Lord lives in His people and it is within them and through them that this brightness is revealed. Those chosen of God are brought into the light that is Jesus Christ.  The light and the power (H7161 – Horns), all emanating from the WORD, are all in His hand.  Those “awesome hands” are the Body of Christ who are doing the greater works.  Horns in Scripture signify POWER either positive or negative.  When the brightness that is Christ appears, we begin to see the power of the WORD COMING out of His chosen instruments of salvation.

Jer 5:14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

Joh 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of (“ek” – out of) the Jews.

Oba 1:21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.

1Co 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

Just as our Lord is the Light of the World (Joh 8:12) so is His Christ who is sent as He was sent by His Father.

Mat 5:14 Ye (Christ’s disciples) are the light of the world….

Eze 1:13  As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.

Joh 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

The power of Jesus Christ through His Christ is hidden from carnal eyes and ears.  The veil of flesh prevents anyone from seeing it or understanding it until the Lord removes the veil and drags them to the Body of Christ (2Co 3:14, Mat 13:10).  The Body of Christ is the Lord’s Body and through whom He does His work and is a mystery and secret hidden from the world.

1Co 2:6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

1Co 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

The Lord is coming to and appearing only to those brought to see their need for a physician.

Hab 3:5  Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet.

Our disobedience and rebellion are all part of God’s plan to bring us to a place of crying out for deliverance.  The Lord wounds us and also heals us (Deut 32:39, Job 5:18).  Being of the flesh first, we get sick with the diseases of Egypt which are the lies of the harlot (Rev 9:16).

Exo 15:26  And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

This is what leads us to repent and go work for the Lord as the parable of the two sons tells us (Mat 21:29).  We must come to see our sickness first so that we may know that we need a physician.

Luk 5:31  And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

Luk 5:32  I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

To get spiritually sick, we first go into Babylon and be deceived waiting for the appointed time for Christ to come call us out, so we no longer will be sick.

Rev 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

It is the enemies of Jesus Christ and His Narrow Way who we, as the Lord’s Body, bring the burning coals to, as we are being led of the Lord.  This is bringing salvation inwardly to God’s sons now and all mankind in the lake of fire to come.

Rom 12:20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

Christ’s Christ are the cherubims and the seraphims in the Bible, such symbolism telling us differing details of who we are as God’s instruments of salvation.  The spreading of the hot coals is how salvation comes and the promised land is purged of all sin.

Isa 6:6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

Isa 6:7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

Eze 10:2 And he spake unto the man clothed with linen, and said, Go in between the wheels, even under the cherub, and fill thine hand with coals of fire from between the cherubims, and scatter them over the city. And he went in in my sight.

We need to be dying daily with Christ (Gal 2:20) till He comes in fullness, the race is not over until the end.  We are spiritually sick and abiding in death (sleep) if we do not judge ourselves properly (righteously by the plumbline) NOW.

1Co 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

1Co 11:30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

1Co 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged (later in the lake of fire)

1Co 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world (later  in the lake of fire to come)

It is interesting to see that almost every other translation except the KJV took this word for Horn and used words insinuating rays of light instead.  Even the literal versions did this despite the fact H7161 is horn 75 of 76 occurrences in the KJV OT.

Hab 3:4  YLT And the brightness is as the light, He hath rays out of His hand, And there—the hiding of His strength.

Hab 3:4 NKJV  His brightness was like the light; He had rays flashing from His hand, And there His power was hidden.

Hab 3:4  NLT His coming is as brilliant as the sunrise. Rays of light flash from His hands, where His awesome power is hidden.

Spiritually this is spot on as the power is the Word and the Word is the light that shines through us, God’s true people, who speak these fiery words that are also known as living waters flowing from our bellies (Joh 7:38).

Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

When the light is judging us, our earth is being measured which put Gods enemies, the heathen nations, and our idols of flesh (the old man’s hills), to flight.

Hab 3:6  He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting.

The Lord measuring the earth is judgment day on the scales of righteousness according to the plumbline (Amo 7:8) being planted within us.  Getting a new mind, the mind of Christ, comes by the renewing of our mindsets in our day of the Lord.

Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The opening of the sixth seal symbolically ushers in the day of wrath against the man of sin and our carnal minds, that remove our idols and destroy all of our fleshly escapes.  As they say, you can run but you cannot hide applies to the Lord’s good work in all men.

Rev 6:14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places…

Rev 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

Our spiritual beheading (Rev 20:4) is the only way we receive the mind of Christ which comes in the furnace of affliction (Isa 48:10) experiencing all seven vials of wrath (Rev 15:8).  This is accomplished when we appear before Christ for judgment.

Rev 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

The elect lives out these white throne verses now as judgment is now on the house of God as the end of our flesh is at hand in this age (1Pe 4:17).  The words of Jesus Christ will bring forth a new heaven and a new earth within every man once we begin to hear and live these words.

Mat 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Mat 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

When Christ comes for judgment into our earth, then we see ourselves as the man of sin and the abomination of desolation.  All of our self-righteousnesses is seen for what it is truly is; the filthy menstrual rags of Isaiah 64:6.

Hab 3:7 I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: and the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble

Hab 3:8  Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath against the sea, that thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of salvation?

Tents is symbolism for the first temple we are under the old covenant, the law of Moses and/or the law of the Gentiles. We are all first Ethiopians, aka heathen Gentiles, from the land of Cush who are dragged to Christ through the affliction in our tents (dwellings).  This first temple is one built through our own righteous works and not by the grace of Christ.  That dwelling place is being torn down and being replaced by a new one built on the righteousness that is only by faith.

We can see this in these words more clearly if we correct the poor translation of the word affliction in this verse.  This is not the normal word for affliction H6040 but is instead H205 which is more aptly translated inequity or wickedness.  The Word is the light that is shining into all areas of darkness in due time (Luk 8:17).

Eph 5:13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

The curtains of Midian symbolize our self-righteous covering.  Perfection of the flesh according to the law of Moses is symbolized by the number 10 and were the instructions on how to construct the first dwelling place for the Lord (Exo 26:1-5).  But what was the goal for the law of Moses and we have to exceed that righteousness to enter into the kingdom of God (Mat 5:20) because it is all based on self-righteousness and not of faith (Gal 2:16).

Rom 3:27  Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

Rom 3:28  Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Php 3:9  And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Midian and the Midianites comes from a root of the same name that means contentions that is derived from a word translated as strife.  So, it is clearly the representation of the land of Midian, as it is a place of our rebellion and contending with the Lord before the slaughter of our flesh is given so we can submit to His righteousness.  We take our first wife in Midian (Num 12:1, Exo 2:21) and are delivered in their hands awaiting our time of deliverance.

Jdg 6:1  And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.

Here are some examples of a Midianite spirit from the New Testament that are to be burned out of us.  It is a very common problem for all men that have the pride of life in their DNA.

Luk 22:24  And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

1Co 1:11  For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

1Co 3:3  For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

Midian is a type of Babylon from whence the Lord first appears to us as He did to Moses (Exo 3:10).  This is where we hear the call to come out of her and separate from the heathen nations (2Co 6:6, Rev 18:4).  Thankfully the Lord is jealous for His Temple and His people and bring war for His namesake.  It is because of the anointing, the Spirit of God, coming within us and our dwelling with that Spirit IN Christ, through which God’s elect defeat the massive Midianite armies and our yoke of oppression is removed.

Isa 9:4  For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian…

Isa 9:6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

As we mature in understanding and know the Lord’s is faithful to His Word (means business), it will hasten the coming of a new earth and a new heaven within us.

2Co 7:1  Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

2Pe 3:12  Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

The law of sowing and reaping is instrumental in the Lord’s plan and how His “grace-nometer” of Rom 5:20 works in bringing us toward maturity.

Heb 10:26  For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

Heb 10:27  But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

The Lord is not angry at the spiritual rivers which represent our thoughts and beliefs, every one of which He is giving to His people (Amo 4:13, Prov 16:9, Eph 1:11, etc.).  As Job told us both the deceived and the deceiver are the Lord’s (Job 12:16).  We are the works of HIS HANDS (Phil 2:13, Isa 64:8).  We are being re-molded into new vessels (Jer 18:4, Rev 21:5) to make manifest good works and be the light of Christ to the world.

The Lord wastes nothing in His plan and as Habakkuk comes to understand this is all part of bringing us to repentance and teaching us to walk by faith; trusting not in ourselves but only in the Lord.  All our deception (Exo 4:11) and erring from His ways (Isa 63:17) sets up the occasion for our day of the Lord and vengeance for the temple in which God is now dwelling (1Co 3:16).  The story of Samson seeking a Philistine wife, strictly forbidden in Israel, tells this story and the Lord’s plan in using our evil deeds for good by seeking an occasion against our flesh (Jdg 14:1-4).  Some other witnesses include:

Jer 2:19  Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

Psa 90:3  Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.

Rom 7:18  For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find no

Habakkuk and all the Lord’s people look behind themselves and see the purpose in what the Lord has and is working in our lives (2Co 4:15).  Our sin being exposed, despite our outward testimonies, all serves the Lord’s plan to soften us and make us pliable and useful in His kingdom.

Hab 3:9  Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.

God’s elect is the Lord’s bow (archers) that is set in the cloud (Gen 9:13-14) of many witnesses that is The Christ of Christ (Heb 12:1).  That is where Christ ascended into the minds (heaven) of His chosen people and has been ascending in every generation since.

Act 1:9  And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he (Christ) was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

Before we can be clothed with Christ’s righteousness, we and all men, will first come to see our spiritual nakedness which refers to our marred (Jer 18:4, Psa 51:5) “no good” (Rom 3:12) position.

Mar 10:18  And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

The Lord makes manifest our nakedness and strips us of our covering to humble us and bring us to repentance knowing there is nothing good but His Spirit dwelling within us.  We are learning dependence upon Christ and His Christ for all things and losing all confidence in our flesh (Phil 3:3).  That is how we are being converted from dogs, outside the covenant of faith, to becoming the true circumcision that is the Israel of God.

We see the word SELAH again in Hab 3:9. As we saw last time, Selah, symbolizes a break or a pause giving added weight of the importance of the matter just proclaimed.  Coming to see ourselves as the chief of sinners (1Ti 1:15) and a brute beast (Ecc 3:18), the man of sin (2Th 2:3) is a profound truth, required for the day of the Lord’s appearing to come.  We need to examine ourselves and our faith often, and reflect upon the Lord working ALL THINGS, including evil (Isa 45:7, Pro 16:4), our deceptions and idols (Job 12:16, Eze 14:4) to be re-shapened into Christ’s  righteousness.

Psa 37:23  The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

Joh 15:5  I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

The Lord breaks (cleaves) our earth using the rivers of lies and false doctrines that overwhelm us and bring us to our wits end in unbelief.  A kingdom divided against itself shall not stand and such is the end of Satan’s kingdom and the kingdom of our beasts as the Lord brings division (Luk 12:51-53) and the house collapses.

Mar 3:24  And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

Mar 3:25  And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.

The light of Christ is saving us and bringing to an end the motion of following the flesh.  With greater faith, comes an increased ability to overcome the giants in the land.  Our mountains and idols will bow down in this day.  Vengeance is the Lord’s and when He comes for His Temple, which temple we are, the sun and the moon, referring here to our lies/false doctrines of unbelief and our outward self-righteousness’s, are not able to deceive us any longer.  The light of Christ, the Word of Truth, like arrows pierce our habitations and our carnal weapons of warfare are being laid down.

Isa 2:4  And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

The truth exposes and rebukes our sins and wickedness’s.  All darkness will be brought to the light of Jesus Christ as the Body of Christ, the glittering (also translated as lightening) spear of God, which defeat the enemies of God within and without ourselves through judgment by the Word (Joh 12:48).  We saw this concept play out in type and shadow when Israel conquered the Amorites and slayed its five kings (grace thru faith) in the Book of Joshua.

Jos 10:12  Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

Jos 10:13  And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

Jos 10:14  And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.

Next time Lord willing, we will pick up with Christ marching through the land with His Armies and finishing the good work He has started in each of us by remaking us in the fire on His Potter’s Wheel.

“The Goodness of God Brings Repentance”

Key Verses:  Hab 2:18 – Hab 3:3

The righteous judgment of God falling upon God’s chosen people is truly a blessing for the new man (Rev 1:3).  This is the singular sign the Lord has given us that we have been chosen by Him and are being prepared for our roles in His Kingdom.

Luk 11:29  And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.

Luk 11:30  For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.

And what was the ministry of Jonah, the one he and us try to run away from at first?

Jon 1:2  Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

After being delivered from the belly of the beast, Jonah was sent again to preach the gospel (Jon 3:2) and bring the wicked people of Nineveh (part of the great Babylonian empire) to repentance.  Such is our journey too as we are being clothed in Christ’s righteousness.

The Lord speaks these five woes through His Body, through His Christ, doing the greater work now and in the ages to come.  We are being taught the narrow way of righteousness through these ongoing judgments as we sojourn in the fire.  Here is the final woe spoken to Habakkuk that will then lead us into Chapter 3 and the humbled response of Habakkuk, who as a type of God’s Elect is being granted repentance through these blessings of the Lord to the new man.

Hab 2:18  What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?

Hab 2:19  Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

Hab 2:20  But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

Flesh was made to be destroyed (1Co 15:50, Jer 18:4) and not to be profitable in the kingdom of God.

Joh 6:63  It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

The man of sin that make a graven image and worships other gods is thankfully cursed and will be destroyed along with all our self-righteous works .

Deu 27:15  Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

Every man is the beast (Ecc 3:18) and the antichrist.  We, as His elect, are just the first given to see it with clarity (Mat 24:15, 2Th 2:11).

Rev 13:11  And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

Rev 13:18  Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

There is no life, no breath of God, found in these molten images and false gods.  Yet all men will worship our false gods and idols before we are being judged in the fire by a jealous Lord.  Spiritually speaking this is us taking credit for things, being prideful, thinking we did anything to advance our salvation.  All of which robs God of His glory and brings condemnation upon us in our day of wrath.

Jer 51:17  Every man is brutish by his knowledge; every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

Isa 44:9  They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.

Isa 44:10  Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing?

Only the Lord can calm the seas (our flesh) and put us into His Rest (silence).  That is the purpose of the trials (the great storm of wind) that makes us afraid and turn us back to the Lord.  When we know He is the Lord, then Christ is exalted in our earth.

Mar 4:37  And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

Mar 4:38  And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

Mar 4:39  And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Psa 46:10  Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

The old man howls but the new man will cast forth our dead bodies with silence, knowing it is the Lord working righteousness within us.  We learn to drink the cup of wrath and give thanks to the Lord in all things, knowing it is all for the greater good of our sanctification as Christ is raised from the dead within us.

Zec 2:13 Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.

As the Bride of Christ, we are His wife and learn to be in subjection to our husbands.

1Pe 3:1  Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

1Pe 3:5  For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

We can put on all the gold and silver (outward righteousness) we want, but it’s all in vain.  Only the Lord can build His Temple (Church) and that through chastening grace and fiery trials.

Psa 127:1  A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

Jas 5:1  Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

Jas 5:2  Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

Jas 5:3  Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

These woes are judgment and are fire of the Word which is exposing our erring from the Lord’s ways.  Both the causing of our erring (Isa 63:17) the subsequent correction via judgment is all part of the goodness of God that is leading us to repent.

Rom 2:4  Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

Our judgment and trials are the wonderful works of the Lord.  These are the storms and the trials of life to which God’s people have been appointed to suffer and endure (Act 14:22, Phi 1:29).

Psa 107:21  Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

The destructive and murderous and merchandising (gain seeking) ways of our flesh are used to turn our hearts back to Him (Psa 90:3).  Having experienced the chastening represented in these five woes, Habakkuk, pivots and gives an account (2Co 5:10) having been humbled by the experience of evil (Ecc 1:3 CLV) the Lord has sent upon him (Job 42:11).

Hab 3:1 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.

Hab 3:2 O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.

Hab 3:3 God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.

Habakkuk is, was and will be led to further repentance by the same process that we will experience and as the Book of Job illustrates in greater detail.  Thus, is the purpose of judgment and those the Lord working with being caused to sin so we can be corrected in the whirlwind as we first contend with and then submit to the Lord.  The fire burns up the old man leaving just dust and ashes of our self-focus.

Job 42:5  I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.

Job 42:6  Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

The first verse that sets up the prayer contains a word used only one other place in the Bible.

Hab 3:1 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth [H7692]

Here is the other verse.

Psa 7:1 Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite. O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:

And here is what Tony brought out in the study of Psalm 7.

The first word of this psalm “ShiggaionH7692 ” speaks to this condition of being spiritually wayward and in need of help to seek the Lord’s direction in our life which comes about through trials and tribulation. The root of this word (“From H7686“) refers to a place of deception and error and ignorance and wandering. It is, as stated in the introduction, “praise to the LORD [that is] not accompanied with worshipping God in spirit and in truth”. But once we are judged then we go from the way that seems right to us in our carnal heavens to a blessed and settled relationship that is guided by the spirit of God and that worships God in spirit and truth (Rom_8:14, Joh_4:24).

Coming to see our deception and our wayward paths off the narrow way, leads us to repent of our transgressions to the Lord.  It is only the humbled and repentant, those that know they need a Saviour that the Lord has come to save in this age.

Luk 5:32  I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

We have seen than knowledge puffs us up and requires the second visit to show us this and turn us into DOERS buying our gold in the fiery trials the Lord is bringing via the woes.

Rev 3:17  Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

Repentance unto life is a gift of God that flows to His chosen people through the chastening grace.  Death of the old man is bringing life to the new man.

Act 11:18  When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

With our pride and wickedness exposed, we can now confess our sins and erring from His ways and begin to appreciate the righteousness being worked by judgment.  We can then pray the Lord’s prayer (thy kingdom come) and for His work to be finished yet in mercy.

Hab 3:2  O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive [H2421] thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.

Hab 3:3 God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.

The work of God is to believe on the one He has sent (Joh 6:29).  It is our growing in faith (the just shall walk by faith) that is what working our own salvation means.  This is what makes us the true lights unto this world (Mat 5:14).

Php 2:12  Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Php 2:13  For it is God which worketh (trying your faith) in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Php 2:14  Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

Php 2:15  That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

Habakkuk is praying for more faith which comes with the Lord making known His secret ways and strange act of judgment.

Rom 9:22  What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

Rom 9:23  And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

As we endure, our carnal fears are being replaced by a godly fear built upon faith in the Word and the Lord’s promises both the good to the new man and the bad things for the old man.

Php 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Whether we live or die, endure more torment in hell, or find the peace and rest in Christ, it is all HIS WORK in us.  Herein lies our patience and learning longsuffering by experiencing it.

Rev 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

Rev 1:18  I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

This prayer of humility is one we all make as the old man is beat down and crushed to powder by the many tribulations by which we enter the kingdom of God.  Our spirit is indeed willing, but our flesh remain weak.  We are being revived on our third day which is judgment process and the very thing that is saving us.

Hos 6:2  After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

Joh 2:19  Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

Joh 2:21  But he spake of the temple of his body.

The word for revive here in Hos 6:2 and Hab 3:2 is H2421  or “châyâh”This word is also a Hebrew word for quicken. The quickening spirit is the same as the reviving spirit.  This reviving is nothing less than the resurrection of Jesus Christ within us that henceforth guides us on the narrow walk of faith.

Psa 119:156  Great are thy tender mercies, O LORD: quicken me[H2421] according to thy judgments

Psa 119:159  Consider how I love thy precepts: quicken me[H2421], O LORD, according to thy lovingkindness.

1Co 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

1Co 15:47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

As we grow in faith and understanding in judgment, we see more clearly the work of God in all phases of our lives and the meaning of Christ being the first and the last takes on a broader meaning.  Habakkuk and we, through these experiences, we must live by (Mat 4:4), are maturing us in the faith. We are realizing that all things are being done in Jesus Christ.  Some witnesses….

Rev 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

1Co 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

These two places named by Habakkuk spiritually signify this growing understanding of faith. Teman is the word for south and was the capital of Edom to the south of Israel.

H8486, têymân    têmân

tay-mawn’, tay-mawn’

Denominative from H3225; the south (as being on the right hand of a person facing the east): – south (side, -ward, wind).

The land of Edom in the south symbolizes the dwelling place of the man of the flesh, the first-born Esau, the first man Adam.  This man is still part of Jesus Christ as the Lord’s Words earlier reflected (1Co 15:45, Rev 1:8).  It is the Lord’s plan and purpose to remake (destroy) the first marred vessel of clay (Jer 18:4, Rev 21:5) beginning with the chosen few (1Pe 4:17) through His judgments.  This is the blessing of our election and calling.

Psa 19:9  The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

Psa 19:10  More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

We are all inhabitants of Teman (and Egypt, Babylon, etc.) before we are being made inhabitants of the Holy City of Jerusalem which is the Body of Christ.  Christ through His Body is dragging those so chosen to Christ and out of Teman.  This, by our speaking the Word (Jer 5:14).

Jer 49:20  Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitations desolate with them.

Jer 49:22  Behold, he (thru The Body) shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread his wings over Bozrah: and at that day shall the heart of the mighty men of Edom be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

The Lord works through His Christ (Joh 16:12).  A person searching for the rising son will be looking east at first and thereby in the spiritual south of Teman.  The Body is the Lord’s right hand and where His power of the Word is placed.  This verse tells us symbolically from whence the Lord comes.  He comes from and through His right hand which is the Body.

Paran means glorify/beautify and was the wilderness area in the south just to north of Sinai (Egypt).  Moses declared that the Lord came from Paran along with His Christ in these OT shadows of the law of faith that was to come.

Deu 33:2  And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them.

Deu 33:3  Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive of thy words.

Paran is first mentioned as the place where Ishmael (the first man Adam in type, the rejected anointed) dwelled after they were expelled from Abraham’s camp (Gen 21:21), and like Israel, Ishmael, became the patriarch of twelve tribes (Gen 25:16).  It is from Paran that we are being led of the Lord into the promised land (Num 10:12-13) which begins His glorification within us.

The word SELAH is inserted here in the same way that word is used in several of the Psalms, the only other place H5542 is found in the Bible.  It is found three times in Habakkuk’s prayer and 71 times in the Psalms.  This prayer of Habakkuk is of the same flavor as the Psalms in singing spiritual praises to the Lord, giving Him the glory for ALL things.  The word is said to mean “pause” or “break” and as Tony’s studies have brought out, it seems to be inserted after verses of profound spiritual truth.  These profound statements spiritually speaking give us things to ponder upon as we give praise to the Lord and grow and accept His Sovereignty in ALL THINGS.

God coming from Teman and Christ from Mt. Paran is showing our understanding that everything we do or anyone else does is IN CHRIST.

Act 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

Joh 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

These are basic foundational truths we acknowledge daily.  Yet these truths require us to pause and consider their vast importance on how we respond to stimuli in our life.  Such introspection will do us well to connect the dots and see the Lord’s hand in every aspect of our life (Isa 64:8, Phi 2:13) from day one to the last day.

Psa 139:16  Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

The glory of the Lord will cover our heavens (minds) as we begin to trust in the Word and His promises and gain dominion over sin.  Our earth and those of our brothers and sisters in Christ, the church, will similarly be full of praise to the Lord, knowing we bring nothing to the table.  The saints collectively are the heavens

Eph 1:11  In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

Eph 1:12  That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

Eph 1:13  In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Eph 1:14  Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

As we grow in faith by the trials and afflictions, Lord willing, we are being humbled and made meek.  The old man is dying daily and the new man Christ within is rising up in the first resurrection in down payment form.  God’s people are inheriting their earth and gaining dominion over sin.

Mat 5:5  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Rev 20:6  Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

We, like Habakkuk, grow in the faith and are turned back to the Lord as we progress through the seven vials of wrath, the three woes or even these five woes spoken of here.  It is all the same vision and plan of God.  We are being remade in the fire and these are the wonderful works of God to His people that He loves.

Heb 12:6  For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Next time Lord willing, we will continue with the prayer where Habakkuk ascribes the power of all Israel’s experiences to the Lord.  His faith and our faith are growing as we learn from our judgment.
