The Law of Jealousies in Marriage


The purpose for the institution of marriage is being shown us [Part 1] and it demonstrates the relationship between Christ and His Head. When we are granted to understand the purpose for the marriage union, we are then being able to understand the necessity of strong, healthy families to have a strong, healthy nation increase within us, spiritually speaking first. There is always an outward application.

Zec 2:10 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD.

Zec 2:11 And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee.

Joh 3:30  He must increase, but I must decrease.

The Father, from the beginning, has purposefully created a waster, to destroy our marriage with our Head.

Isa 54:16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.

Rom 7:14 for we have known that the law [Christ’s] is spiritual, and I am fleshly, sold by the sin;

The waster knows to tempt us to take matters into our own hands [our own reasonings, falling into our own lusts] and be unequally yoked [2 Co 6:14] with the nations within, our emotions getting the better of us [bound by the law].

Pro 18:7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

1Co 7:39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

We are to retain and strengthen our marriage, and we see it is the unbeliever who leaves a marriage. Think within and without. The believer always seeks to nourish and strengthen the marriage …… take heed to deal well with our souls, the Word of God within, takes heed to nourish and strengthen our marriage to Christ. Lies do not stand against the Truth.

Mal 2:16 For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore, take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

Rom 11:30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:

Rom 11:31  Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.

Luk 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

With that said, let us today study the topic of jealousy in the context of marriage. Think physical and spiritual, there is only One Lawgiver, which is Christ.


Scriptures reveal that jealousy, like every emotion, is a good thing to have when it is “godly jealousy”, which does not allow the waster to defile our marriages.

1Jn 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

2Co 11:2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

We are Christ’s, child bearer, Christ is jealous of us ….. cruel as the grave, lies and lovers will have to go.

Son 8:6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

Exo 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Pro 6:34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

This is the reason for Christ’s coming:

1Jn 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

If we have other lovers [idols of the heart], married to our father, the devil [lies & lovers], and our mother, that great harlot [disobedience], misery is coming.

Jer 4:30 And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.

2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

When we depart from Christ’s Words, misery is finding us. Having other lovers, being under the law of the gentiles, yoked with the nations inside of us, confusion and every foul deed follows.

2Co 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

We are each other’s helpers and need to take heed in the physical always. When we speak about physical marriages, we are to admonish each other as sisters, to be wives to our husbands even to unbelieving husbands. We obey Christ [Truth]rather than men [lies] but we certainly look at the physical aspects of our marriages as Christ instructs us to do. Is the inside of the cup clean, or do we only have a form of godliness? Our examples to our husbands go a long way.

Mat 15:18  but the things coming forth from the mouth from the heart do come forth, and these defile the man;

Mat 15:19  for out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, whoredoms, thefts, false witnessings, evil speakings:

Christ’s wife identifies with Him and wants to please and glorify Him alone! Christ’s wife is as jealous of Him as He is of her. Paul had a godly jealousy towards the Church, to present them without spot and wrinkle [2 Co 11:2].

1Ki 19:14 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

With the understanding that jealousy has a positive application, and that godly jealousy strengthens a marriage, we see that the end goal of positive godly jealousy is to present us a chaste virgin. We now consider a jealous spirit. Unjustified [not judged] jealousy destroys a marriage. Where there is faith [a gift], there is unity. It is grace through faith that is saving us. We have to be judged and see if our works are remaining.

Eph 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

When we are given the trial of losing our first love, we see Christ’s instructions for how that trust [returning to Him] is to be restored. We look at the OT shadow which points to the spiritual reality of the matter. Think within first, here is how we are judged to see whether we are guilty or not.

Num 5:12 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man’s wife go aside, and commit a trespass against him,

Num 5:13 And a man lie with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband, and be kept close, and she be defiled, and there be no witness against her, neither she be taken with the manner;

The words “with the manner” are not in Hebrew. We are being told is that she was not “taken in adultery, in the very act”.

Joh 8:4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

There are no witnesses in this example, and when a woman is suspected by her husband of being adulterous, pointing to what is going on in our minds, not in the act; are there lies in our heavens, do we have other lovers, idols of the heart?

Num 5:14 And the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled:

A jealous man is a dangerous man. Being defiled is being disobedient.

Pro 6:32  But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
Pro 6:33  A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
Pro 6:34  For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
Pro 6:35  He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

We all, are guilty of leaving our first love through the traditions of our fathers [old mindsets]. Christ provides a way to deal with this in a manner that keeps us clean [doctrine] and undefiled [obedience] and provides safety for a woman [Body, the Bride] who is being falsely accused by her jealous husband. Let us look at the OT example of how Christ cleanses us through the washing of water by the Word.

Eph 5:26  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

Here is the law [shadow] of jealousies.

Num 5:29 This is the law of jealousies, when a wife goeth aside to another instead of her husband, and is defiled;

Num 5:15 Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is an offering of jealousy, an offering of memorial, bringing iniquity to remembrance.

Whether there is basis for the husband’s jealousy is to be determined. The oil which represents acceptance by the Spirit of God and His Christ and the frankincense which represents the joy of that acceptance are not to be a part of this offering, which instead brings iniquity to remembrance. This man and the priest are both types of Christ, but it is Christ as His Body, in an earthen vessel, and this woman being us, as His Bride, who is also of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle.

Num 5:16 And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD:

Num 5:17 And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take, and put it into the water:

Now we have dust in the holy water of the laver. Moses was commanded to sanctify the laver, and it was only the fact that the laver was sanctified that this water is holy water and is now capable of judging this accused woman in this OT witness.

Exo 40:11 And thou shalt anoint the laver and his foot, and sanctify it.

Here is this laver and holy water which judge us in NT terms:

Joh 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

These rivers of living water are the words of Christ [John 6:63] judging us all.

Joh 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

Joh 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

This holy water which is capable of making such judgments is in an earthen vessel, made of dust, and that holy water is combined with the dust of the tabernacle which symbolizes the same thing as the earthen vessel itself. In Adam, we are all the dust of the ground. It was the dust of the earth that was given to the serpent for his nourishment [Gen 3:14], and yet the same dust, also called an earthen vessel is becoming the “flesh and… bones” of Christ [Eph 5:30].

Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

1Sa 2:8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’S, and he hath set the world upon them.

Christ is using earthen vessels to execute His judgments within His Bride. Christ’s own anointed and sanctified “holy water” into which is placed “dust from the floor of the tabernacle”, both being in “an earthen vessel” is supernaturally, through this law of jealousy, discerning the spirits within His Bride.

Num 5:18 And the priest shall set the woman before the LORD, and uncover the woman’s head, and put the offering of memorial in her hands, which is the jealousy offering: and the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that causeth the curse:

Placing the offering in her hand symbolizes her willingness to be judged and to be purified by the holy water that is judging her. Uncovering her head is a symbol of shame, because it is a shame for a woman’s head to be uncovered [1 Co 11:5-6] It is the priest who executes the judgment of this woman [church].

Num 5:19 And the priest shall charge her by an oath, and say unto the woman, If no man have lain with thee, and if thou hast not gone aside to uncleanness with another instead of thy husband, be thou free from this bitter water that causeth the curse:

This water symbolizing the Word of God causes a curse to come upon us when we are serving our belly. It is bitter in [our] belly [Rev 10:9] because our belly is the symbol for the desires of the carnal-mind flesh which is enmity against God [Rom 8:6-7].

Rom 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

Rom 16:18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Php 3:18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

Php 3:19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

We receive Christ with joy and love the sweetness thereof in our spiritual youth when we first encounter Truth. But when we are made to face the trials that come with being faithful to those words, then the sweet words become bitter in our belly. We lose our first love. Christ tells us that we are dust and will return to dust because we are marred from the beginning, the serpent tells us the we are spirit like God and cannot die. Who are we believing?

Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

Physical death shadows spiritual death [disobedience]. What is said in hidden language is that only the faithful [Word of God] is remaining [always on going]. We have to become doers and not only hearers of Christ. If we obey our carnal thoughts [lies, lovers], which are our own lusts, when we know not to do that, that is lust, seed of the serpent, works of the flesh.

Eze 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

We are being married to Christ, have the gift of faith, yet lies with another.

Num 5:20 But if thou hast gone aside to another instead of thy husband, and if thou be defiled, and some man have lain with thee beside thine husband:

Num 5:21 Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell;

Jn 2:7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.

This “swelling of the belly” has nothing to do with becoming fruitful and bringing forth children to God’s glory. This “swelled belly” is a deadly inflammation which results from having a thigh that is rotting and is robbing us of our ability to walk upright. We know this is so, because the conception of a child is what a woman who is justified by the bitter waters produces:

Num 5:22 And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh to rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen.

Num 5:23 And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall blot them out with the bitter water:

The bitter waters [Word] are fatal to our unfaithfulness, and at the same time the same waters “blot out… these curses”. Here is this same message in the NT

Joh 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Joh 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

1Co 3:15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

If we are being judged, seed comes forth.

Mat 13:8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

It is the priest who causes the woman to drink the bitter waters of judgment.

Num 5:24 And he [the priest] shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter.

Num 5:25 Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering out of the woman’s hand, and shall wave the offering before the LORD, and offer it upon the altar:

It is also the priest who receives this offering from the woman and waves it before the Lord, and it is also the priest who burns the offering upon the altar and who “cause[s] the woman to drink the water”. We are each other’s lake of fire.

Num 5:26 And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water.

Only after all these commandments have been “diligently” adhered to can a proper judgment be made whether this woman has been unfaithful. Only then will she, and we know the salvation that comes with this judgment being diligently executed upon her/us resulting in set apartness and obedience.

Num 5:27 And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people.

What is the outcome of this judgment? Either she has already been judged and purified and will not now be hurt of this judgment, or else she will now be judged for her sins. This is the purpose for all of God’s judgments. We are both women.

1Co 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

All judgment is the chasten[ing] of the Lord. This is the effects of judgement:

Isa 26:9 With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

The woman who is already judged is conceiving seed.

Num 5:28 And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive seed.

We are all unrighteous, sinning machines made to being destroyed.

Rom 3:9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

The priest executes upon her all this law, and keep all of His statutes.

Num 5:29 This is the law of jealousies, when a wife goeth aside to another instead of her husband, and is defiled;

Num 5:30 Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law.

This entire law of jealousy is about Christ and His wife, because Scriptures testify of [Christ] and are all part of “the testimony of Jesus Christ”.

1Co 1:5 That in everything ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;

1Co 1:6  Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:

The Bride of Christ are kings and priests unto Christ who faithfully is executing this law.

Rev 1:6 and made us kings and priests to God and His Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

When we do execute… all this law… the man… shall be guiltless from iniquity and this woman shall bear her iniquity.

Num 5:31 Then shall the man be guiltless from iniquity, and this woman shall bear her iniquity.

The woman who is not defiled in this law, is cleared through judgment, and she is now free and shall conceive seed [life].

Num 5:28 And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive seed.

Here are the witnesses in the NT when comparing spiritual with spiritual. In this example down below, the renewing mindset is a chaste virgin having been made set-apart, not travailing [she has been already judged], not married to the law, having many more children, being found faithful. The dream is one.

Gal 4:27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bear not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.

Isa 54:1 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife [law], saith the LORD.


We see Christ increasing and we are decreasing, the faithful words of Christ [John 6:63] increasing [the women that conceive seed] and the seed of the serpent, our carnal thoughts, lies and lovers [enmity against Christ], decreasing which are demonstrated by these two women in the OT law of jealousies. In the NT witness: The one stays and the other is taken away.

Mat 24:41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

The one woman who is judged and whose belly swells up, is taken away …. decreasing, hurt of the second death and the other women, who is judged and who remains [Christ], found faithful, conceives and is increasing.

So, the one is scattered [decrease] and the one is gathered [increase]. In this study, we looked primarily within. As noted before, there is always an outward application as well.

Mat 25:29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

Faithful is Christ and His Christ. Stay close to the written Word.

Rev 3:14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

Act 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

So, positive godly jealousy gathers us within, presenting us as chaste virgins [life] and a jealous Spirit which the Lord claims He IS [I am a jealous God] scatters us [death of the old man], makes us decrease being refined in the furnace of affliction.

Isa 48:10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

Here are the verses for our study for Part 3 of the Book of Nahum.

Nah 1:7 The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

Nah 1:8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

Nah 1:9 What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.

Nah 1:10 For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

Nah 1:11 There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor.

Nah 1:12 Thus saith the LORD; Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.

Nah 1:13 For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.

Nah 1:14 And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.

The prophets spoke of the coming of the Lord but did not yet know Him. They like the prophets of today (The Elect the few chosen) will first come to know true doctrine and speak it. This is an important first step but as we will see is not the only step to know the Lord. The prophets precede the coming of Christ within and without. We see Christ’s lineage traced back thru the prophets including Nahum.

Luk 3:25 Which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Amos, which was the son of Naum, which was the son of Esli, which was the son of Nagge,

Christ comes after the prophets who foretell of His coming. Being washed in the true water of the Word is not where it ends. There must be a second baptism. Christ must come the second time to cause us to go from being hearers of the Word to becoming doers of the Word. In our yet carnal state, we like all the prophets before us know about Him, but we know Him not.

 Joh 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Joh 1:30 This is he of whom I said, after me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

Joh 1:31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

Joh 1:32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

Joh 1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Spirit.

It is those we see baptized in the fire of the Holy Spirit who are the true sons of God.

Joh 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God (“Christ”)

Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Only the priests of God, the few chosen have been prepared to cross over the River Jordan which represents this baptism of fire. They must precede the rest of Israel (all men) and bear the ark of the testimony of God (The Word) on their shoulders as they walk. This is the second baptism in type and shadow and God’s Elect will lead others to salvation in the age to come (Rom 11:31).

Jos 3:6 And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.

The title of this study is taken from Nahum 1:14 which says that “no more of thy name be sown”. This is speaking to the initiation of this second baptism by fire whereby the jealousy of the Lord (whose name is Jealous) will be made manifest by the salvation of His chosen people. The “old man, the seed of the serpent”, is being cut off forever by the sword that is the Word.

Lev 20:3 And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name.

We all are by nature children of wrath (Eph 2:3) of our father the devil (Joh 8:44) before faith comes.  The baptism of fire is destroying that seed within is and all things will be made new in the fire of the Lord’s jealousy.  The voice of this other “jesus”, the servant of Satan disguised as an angel of light, shall no more be heard in us when the Lord’s jealousy is at work in us.

Rev 18:22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;

Rev 18:23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

The Lord builds His church through His Body, “The Christ”, and this is only done in His Name, not in the name of any other god or idol.

1Ch 22:19 Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.

Doing things in His name is what we are caused to do by the scourging grace of the Lord (Rom 5:20, Ezek 36:27, Isa 48:10, Heb 12:6, etc). But when we see this baptism of fire coming to pass in our lives we are blessed indeed.  Our flesh won’t rejoice but our new man will be glad.

Luk 13:35 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

1Pe 4:13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

Let’s dig a little deeper into these verses one at a time.

Nah 1:7 The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

The Lord is indeed good to the new man but merciless to the old man who is being destroyed by design (Eze 7:1-9, 1 Co 15:50). Christ through His Body is a strong hold in our day of the Lord, the day of judgment filled with trouble, trials and afflictions (1 Pe 4:13). The Body is this strong hold and fortress on whom we must learn to cast our cares upon (1 Pe 5:7) as we endure the tribulation necessary to enter into the kingdom of God (Act 14:22).

We know this is only speaking to God’s Elect who are given “ears to hear” and we are His sheep. Only His sheep, are given to speak His Word and only they will hear His voice (Mat 13:10).

Joh 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

Joh 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

The very definition of eternal life is defined as knowing the Lord.

Joh 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

God’s Elect possess this now in down payment form. We only come to know “He is the Lord” by going through the fiery trials and judgments of God. There are no exceptions to this rule of when and how we shall know Him.

Eze 7:4 And mine eye shall not spare thee, neither will I have pity: but I will recompense thy ways upon thee, and thine abominations shall be in the midst of thee: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

This really is what the Lord “being good” to us means. The Lord bringing tender mercies to us is all about the old man being destroyed in His jealousy and wrath so the new man will come forth.

Psa 145:9 The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

Psa 119:156 Great are thy tender mercies, O LORD: quicken me according to thy judgments.

Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Rom 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

As we saw in the Obadiah study, we are delivered by the deliverers that come from Mt. Zion. These saviors are the Body of Christ (“The Christ”) and it is those same deliverers that are also our place of refuge and comfort. We best learn to come to Christ for refuge and seek the wisdom of a multitude of counselors.

Psa 50:15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

Rom 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Interesting that the word translated “trust” [H2620] has within its meaning the concept of fleeing or seeking refuge.

A primitive root; to flee for protection (compare H982); figuratively to confide in: – have hope, make refuge, (put) trust.

Fleeing Babylon, Egypt and our enemies is what we are called to do. We will only find refuge in the Lord which means within His Body. To be part of the living God we must remain connected to the living organism that is Christ.

Nah 1:8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

The foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of men. The Lord’s process as defined in Scriptures is to destroy the old man within us by first having us be utterly deceived and walk in strong delusion about the truth. That wicked man of sin we all are in the flesh, the beast, the “abomination of desolation” must be identified first and then destroyed.

2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

2Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

It seems foolishness to the carnal mind, but the way we see the truth is to be shown we are blind.

Joh 9:39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.

We can’t at first stand against these waters as foolish men; we will indeed be overcome by the flood (Mat 7:26-27) and the house of the Lord will fall. Yet when we can hear the Truth and the Lord teaches us righteousness by these judgments, then we can stand.

Mat 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

Mat 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

The overrunning flood refers to waters that are swallowed up by the earth. These are the lies and false doctrines, the strong delusion; that keeps our old man deceived and worshipping the beast all the while thinking we serve the Lord in our first witness for Christ.

Rev 12:15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.

Rev 12:16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

And it is this blaspheming of God we all do that the Lord will use as an occasion to bring judgment against us at our appointed time.

Dan 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

Isa 59:19 So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

Light must first be called darkness in our ignorance and spiritual blindness. It is us, you and me, the sons of God, the very children of the kingdom, that are first in darkness, made spiritually blind on purpose by the Lord. We must first be unprofitable and shown we are blind before we can see and the Lord can use us (Mat 25:30).

Mat 8:12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The end of our rebellion and sowing of the seed of the serpent comes like it did in the days of Noah which is by the causation of a flood over the entire earth. The wicked (carnal mind, lies, false doctrines) shall be taken away and we will no longer sow the seed of wickedness in the earth (Mat 24:38-39).

Gen 7:23 And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.

Nah 1:9 What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.

The tribulation and trouble (affliction) we suffer through does not come a second time. The process of going through God’s judgment is a onetime process that will not fail. He comes to us a second time but when He comes for judgment, He is absolutely going to finish the good work He started in destroying the old and bringing forth the new man.

Php 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:


Rom 9:27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

Rom 9:28 For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.


Zec 13:3 And it shall come to pass, that when any shall yet prophesy, then his father and his mother that begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live; for thou speakest lies in the name of the LORD: and his father and his mother that begat him shall thrust him through when he prophesieth.

 A jealous God gets what He desires (Job 26:13, 2 Pe 3:9). He accomplishes His fury and the new man is brought forth.

Zep 1:18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

The man of sin, the “son of perdition” will no longer be sowing the seed of this “other jesus”.

Eze 39:7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.


 Nah 1:10 For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

 We will know who is of Christ by their fruit. Yet fruit takes time to grow and even within us, we initially try to bring forth lasting fruit for God from thorns.

Mat 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles

All of our works will be tried in the fire and what is of the flesh shall be burned. This is the process of salvation hidden in the prophets such as Nahum.

1Co 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

1Co 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;

1Co 3:13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.

1Co 3:14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

1Co 3:15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

The symbols of thorns and being drunk all refer to the false worship we do under the influences of the lies and false doctrines of the great harlot, Mystery Babylon. As we saw earlier we must bring forth these thorns as we walk in darkness first. The seed of Christ will be choked out initially.

Gen 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

Mat 13:7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:

But those thorns and briars are destined to be burned and they will as we are being taught in our day of judgment.

Heb 6:8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

Being devoid of the Truth and the Spirit of God at this time, we are fully dry and devoid of the true knowledge and Spirit of the Lord. In this spiritual condition when the fire of the Lord comes, the wood in our hearts and minds (carnal mindedness) is devoured quickly as dry stubble.

Mal 4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

As the parable of the wheat and the tares explains, the lies we first are given to believe grow in our hearts and minds along with the Truth (the wheat) until the end of the age at the “time of the harvest”.

Mat 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

We cannot know the real Jesus until we first drink strong drink and get drunk with wine. We can’t eat and drink properly because we have not yet been given “eyes to see and ears to hear”.

Deu 29:4 Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.

Deu 29:5 And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.

Deu 29:6 Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the LORD your God.

It must be that we get spiritually drunk and make all the nations drink of this wine of the wrath of fornication with the world and Babylon (Rev 14:8).

Nah 1:11 There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked [H1100] counsellor.

Interesting that the word “wicked” [H1100] is most often translated as Belial in the OT.  Strong’s defines this word as primarily meaning “without profit or worthlessness”, which is very appropriate to our work and the fruit it produces when we are listening to the lying spirits and false doctrines that defile our heavens that ultimately lead to destruction through the flood.


From H1097 and H3276; without profit, worthlessness; by extension destruction, wickedness (often in connection with H376, H802, H1121, etc.): – Belial, evil, naughty, ungodly (men), wicked.

Neither Christ nor “His Christ” will have any agreement or part with Belial.

2Co 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

We see this “Belial Counselor” first mentioned in Deuteronomy that entice us to worship other gods which makes the Lord very jealous and brings forth the fury of fire in due time.

Deu 13:13 Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;

Before our baptism of fire comes, we are nothing more than a religious beast blaspheming the Lord, worshiping idols and other gods and bringing glory to our father the devil.

Rev 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

Rev 13:12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

The cause of this is the thorns, the briars, the drunkenness; which is all one and the same thing.  A prophet will be sent to those nations and wicked counselors.

Eze 11:2 Then said he unto me, Son of man, these are the men that devise mischief, and give wicked counsel in this city:

Eze 11:3 Which say, It is not near; let us build houses: this city is the caldron, and we be the flesh.

Eze 11:4 Therefore prophesy against them, prophesy, O son of man

This sudden destruction will come and the wicked counselors within and without shall not escape in the day of the Lord.

1Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

Mic 4:9 Now why dost thou cry out aloud? is there no king in thee? is thy counsellor perished? for pangs have taken thee as a woman in travail.


Nah 1:12 Thus saith the LORD; Though they be quiet [H8003], and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.

I see no valid reason for why the translators took the Hebrew word “Shalem” and came up with “quiet” in this verse of Nahum.  It really obscures the meaning.

This word really means “perfect” in the sense of the best the flesh has to offer God, which of course is not anywhere near good enough. Nobody, not even Jesus Christ is, was or will be perfected in these marred vessels of clay until the third day which will be our resurrection from the dead in fullness.

Luk 13:32 And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

Mar 10:18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

We readily see this by reading two of the sixteen places this word was translated as perfect. Neither Hezekiah or Asa’s obeyed the Lord’s commandments, doing evil in His sight yet they were said to be perfect.

Isa 38:3 And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

1Ki 15:14 But the high places were not removed: nevertheless Asa’s heart was perfect with the LORD all his days.

Interestingly that the word perfect used in Job 1:1 that also twists the Truth to those yet carnal, was not the same word but the intent and meanings are very similar.

Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect [H8535] and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

Being many and in this “fleshly state of perfection” is speaking to our time being at ease in Zion thinking we have arrived. We forget until the fire comes that we must always be working as our Father is working. This lascivious spirit must be burned out of our heavens with fire and it shall be when Christ, the Ambassador, passes through the nations within us. The children of the flesh who have not yet been baptized with fire and are many more than the “few chosen” to drink of the Lord’s cup in this age.

Gal 4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

Gal 4:27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.

As we saw earlier in verse 1:9, the Lord is going to finish the good work He starts when our baptism by fire begins. The affliction we will bear is a onetime ongoing event and comes in the appointed times of the Lord that no man knows. Lord willing this will be in this age and will be completed in this age so we may be in that first resurrection and claim the prize of the high calling in Christ.

Isa 54:7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee.

Isa 54:8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.


Nah 1:13 For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder

The yoke of being carnally minded will keep us from entering the rest that is Christ, our Sabbath. When we are outside of faith and under “the law” striving to be (self) righteous by our own deeds we are heavily burdened as we saw in Part 1 and 2 of the Nahum study. But that oppressive burden and heavy yoke of the old man will be broken off our necks as Christ is revealed within us.

Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Luk 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Psa 116:16 O LORD, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds.

Jer 5:5 I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

The Lord both puts this yoke and bonds upon us and then in the appointed times, He sends Christ and removes them. But while serving Babylon we will bear this burden of Nineveh we discussed in Part 1.

Jer 27:2 Thus saith the LORD to me; Make thee bonds and yokes, and put them upon thy neck,

Jer 27:3 And send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the Ammonites, and to the king of Tyrus, and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the messengers which come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiah king of Judah;

Jer 27:4 And command them to say unto their masters, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say unto your masters;

Jer 27:5 I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me.

Jer 27:6 And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him.

Jer 27:7 And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son’s son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him.

But lo the days will come when the Lord says no more sowing of this “corrupted seed” and He will redeem His people by raising up Christ.

Jer 30:7 Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.

Jer 30:8 For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him:

Jer 30:9 But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

The positive side of being in bonds is after the Lord has initiated our redemption and we become bond servants of the Lord and “His Christ” being an example of the love of God (obedience).

Joh 12:26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

Here is our last verse of Part 3 from where the title of the study was taken.

Nah 1:14 And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile [H7043]

Our brother Ernesto recently shared with us a paper he wrote explaining what doing things in the Name of the Lord and getting a new one really means in Scripture. The gist of that paper was that our names refer to our nature or character and doing things in the name of Christ means we are obeying His commands and following sound doctrine. Amazing how carnal men have made such big deals on how you spell and pronounce the name of the Lord and yet that is not what the Lord is concerned about.

Overcomers that make up “The Christ” are the temple and the way into the Temple and upon us is written the new Name of Christ and the heavenly city of Jerusalem above.

Rev 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

This is the purpose of the Lord causing all this anguish, trouble, adversity, affliction i.e.  all the evil in our lives (Eze 14:21-23). This is how we are BEING taught and chastened by our Father and ultimately being caused to enter into our desired haven and rest. So here in verse 1:14 we see the words from whence the title “No more of thy name be sown” was taken.

The Lord is very jealous for His People, His chosen few, the apple of His eye and when the day comes, the Lord gets what He desires by the process described here in Nahum.

Exo 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Exo 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

The man of sin will naturally make these images and idols that exalt themselves against the Lord.  These things must be before the day of the Lord comes.

2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Je 10:14 Every man is brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

The false prophet and the beast and all the graven images we hold as gods will be burned up in the fire of God’s jealousy. For the Elect of God this is today, the day of our salvation; but for the rest of mankind this will be in the lake of fire.

Rev 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Son 8:6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

Similar to John’s revelation of Jesus Christ, Ezekiel had a vision (was given the understanding) that the Lord would do this to sanctify His Name and His House.

Eze 43:5 So the spirit took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house.

Eze 43:6 And I heard him speaking unto me out of the house; and the man stood by me.

Eze 43:7 And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcasses of their kings in their high places.

 Entering into the rest that is Christ and ceasing from our own works is the outcome of these judgments.

Heb 4:8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

Heb 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

Heb 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

This was all spoken about in type and shadow in the OT and remains ensamples for us to this very day.

Lev 25:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a sabbath unto the LORD.

Lev 25:3 Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and six years thou shalt prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof;

Lev 25:4 But in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of rest unto the land, a sabbath for the LORD: thou shalt neither sow thy field, nor prune thy vineyard.

The Lord is the one making our grave. He is the One who has cursed the old man and set him up for destruction and a most certain death.

Isa 24:6 Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.

The word translated “vile” in Nahum 1:14 [H7043 – qâlal] is really one of the Hebrew words for “cursed”. Being cursed is horrible thing for the old man but this is the good news that awaits all men and that is “the day when no more of the old man and seed of the serpent shall be sown”.

Mat 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

And once this age abiding fire has accomplished its good work, there will henceforth be no more curse. All things indeed are being made new.

 Rev 22:3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him

 Christ is building His Church through His Body which is “His footstool” we saw in Part 1. Next week, we will continue the study of Nahum and reviewing additional details buried in very symbolic language.
