“The God of Dan and Way of Beersheba”

Key Verses:  Amos 8:12 – 8:14

We spoke last time about the famine of the Word and the period of darkness we must endure (Mat 4:4. 1Co 3:21) in being drowned by the lusts of our flesh (the River of Egypt) before the Lord comes with vengeance to save us from our sins.  We have to come to our wits end by being overcome by our beast (Rev 11:7).  It is only from that place of total humility that the Lord rises up within us and delivers us from the belly of the beast.

Jon 2:1  Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly,

Jon 2:2  And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

This time of trouble and great tribulation in our heavens is the sign we know the Lord is working righteousness in us.  Here in lies our patience in waiting on Him to come within.

Mat 12:39  But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

Mat 12:40  For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

I will read the last four verses of chapter 8 to regather the context of what is happening in the Kingdom of God and conclude the vision of judgment regarding the summer fruits (Amo 8:2).

Amo 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

Amo 8:12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

Amo 8:13 In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

Amo 8:14 They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

In our immaturity, we are still wandering from one carnal thought to the next (sea to sea) and going back to the elementary principles of the Lord we first learned.  This is what wandering from the north (direction of judgment) to the east refers to.  Yet our ability to digest the strong meat of the Word that brings eternal life (Joh 6:53) and move on to maturity and the revealing of Jesus Christ within us, is not found in the east.  It is only found when we are given to trust the Lord and follow the Son westward.

Mat 24:27  For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Isa 43:5 Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;

We learn good and evil by moving on westward in the spiritual land within us, enduring the affliction of judgment that is sanctifying us.

Heb 5:14  But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

The sun moves from east to west and so do we in the spirit if we follow Jesus Christ.

Mar 10:21  Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

When we return to the east and don’t follow the Lord west, we will not find what we seek.

Rev 9:6  And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

Pro 1:24  Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
Pro 1:25  But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
Pro 1:26  I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
Pro 1:27  When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
Pro 1:28  Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

It is the new man who is learning patience and trust in the Lord.  It is the new man who is enduring through the famine as the old man is being set up for destruction.

Amo 8:13 In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

The fair or beautiful virgins are God’s Elect who the Lord remembers their sins no more.

Heb 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Rom 4:17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

The young men [H970] are the “chosen ones” who are being taught to lean not on their own understanding but trust only in the Lord.

Psa 78:31  The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen [H970] men of Israel.

Psa 78:32  For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.

Psa 78:33  Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

Our Lord spake a parable unto us about the day of judgment.

Luk 18:1  And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

When the Lord “finally” comes, will there be faith on our earth?  We need to wait and trust in the Lord to deliver His promises.  We learn this by enduring through these experiences of evil, waiting on the judge.

Luk 18:7  And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

Luk 18:8  I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

The wrath of God is being revealed against all of our ungodliness in the day of the Lord (Rom 1:18).  We as the first to be judged are the fools that profess to be wise but are still trusting in the idols of Samaria and worship the creature (the beast) and not the Lord.

Rom 1:22  Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23  And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24  Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Rom 1:25  Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

When judgment is on our house (1Pe 4:17) then we live through this being overwhelmed by the river of Egypt (Amo 8:8) and be turned over to the lusts of our flesh for a season that is as long as needed to humble us and teach us the fear of the Lord.

Rom 1:26  For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
Rom 1:28  And even as they did not like to retain God in (their) knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Rom 1:29  Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Rom 1:30  Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31  Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

This is not those evil homosexual people over there.  These are words of fire spoken foremost against us, the Elect of God upon whom judgment has fallen.  We are the man of sin (2Sa 12:7), trusting in ourselves and our own understanding and thereby committing homosexuality and spiritual fornication with other gods.

Rom 2:1  Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

We are these fair virgins and young men (immature in Christ) that are not yet given to overcome.  We come thru the fire that is, was and will be coming unto the land that is the kingdom of God within (Luk 17:20-21).

2Co 11:2  For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Rev 14:4  These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

Our last verse is pivotal in that it speaks of the deep mysteries of salvation that so precious few are given to understand in this age (1Co 2:7, Mat 13:10).

Amo 8:14 They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

This is Sin of Samaria is the not being separated from the world and being unfaithful to our husband Jesus Christ by worshipping other gods.  This is the transgression of Jacob as we know the truth but walk according to the gods of this world and worship (bow) to the image (thoughts and beliefs) of our beast.

Mic 1:5  For the transgression of Jacob is all this, and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem?

These gods are no gods are at all but the idols of our hearts and the image of our beasts we set up thinking the narrow way is all about knowledge and not in the doing.

Gal 4:8 But then, indeed, when you did not know God, you served those which by nature are not gods

Jer 23:13  And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err.

Jer 7:8 Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

Jer 7:9 Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;

As the king, it is us, living out this idolatry (1Co 10:11) and swearing by the gods of this world is our continuing in the sin of Jeroboam #1 that all succeeding kings continued in.

2Ki 13:6 Nevertheless they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who had made Israel sin, but walked in them; and the wooden image also remained in Samaria.

John and all of the Elect see this beast and our worshiping its image as we look behind us in our day of judgment.

Rev 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
Rev 13:12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

The Corinthian fornicator is you and me at this stage before the Lord casts us out into outer darkness during the famine of hearing the words which is used to destroy the flesh (1Co 5:5).

1Co 5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife.

Being of our father the devil, we are committing spiritual fornication (Joh 6:63) with our father’s wife. Having the truth and knowing the Lord is the one who works all things including righteousness within us, we are commanded to come out of her (Rev 18:4) and no longer commit this spiritual fornication and be partaker of her evil deeds.

Joh 8:41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

Keeping ourselves pure and undefiled is the primary focus of those that walk by faith.

Act 15:20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

1Co 10:8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

We are to separate from the world including the religious world that is of the harlot and committing fornication and following the gods of Samaria.

Mat 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

Death to the old man is coming by destruction of our flesh and carnal way of thinking.  Our trusting in our own righteousness to save us and period of keeping covenant with the flesh, keeping it alive, is coming to an end in this day as we are living every word of God.  The god of Dan and the way of life of Beersheba are being cut (spiritually circumcised) out of our lives by the hands of God (Col 2:11).  Dan in the north and Beersheba in the south define the boundaries of the yet carnal nation of physical Israel that is an example and shadow of words we are living out in this age.

The God of Dan Rises Not Again

Dan is the Hebrew word H1835 and it means to judge or to rule.  The tribe of Dan represent part of our maturing process and one of the foundational experiences we must live out in coming to the fullness of Christ being a mature man.  Dan was unable conquer much of its inheritance, due to their spiritual immaturity.

Jdg 18:1 In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.

Impatient and discontent, the Danites, sought to make a name for themselves and trusted in the work of their own hands.  They found a city Laish that had idols and false prophets and they made that their home and put their name on it in disobedience to the commandments.

Jdg 18:29 And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.

Jdg 18:30 And the children of Dan set up the graven image: and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.

We don’t have time or space to repeat the great study Larry did in the Genesis series on Dan. Here is a link to that study:  Foundational Themes in Genesis #110 .  The god of Dan was the god of themselves and worshiping the image of the beast.  It was in the city of Dan where Jeroboam put one of the two golden calves for the purpose of worship.  This is an OT version of Revelation 13 and our being deceived in our spiritual adultery and fornication.  Here we wander in spiritual darkness not hearing the commands and yet thinking we are serving the Lord in our idolatry.

1Ki 12:28 Whereupon the king (you and me) took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

1Ki 12:29 And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan.

1Ki 12:30 And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.

1Ki 12:31 And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.

The Lord uses Dan within us to bring judgment to the land and teach us the patience of the saints.  Jacob’s prayer shows us what we befall Dan us in the last days which are now on the house of God.

Gen 49:16 Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel.

Gen 49:17 Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward.

Gen 49:18 I have waited for thy salvation, O LORD.

As Danites we are obsessed with ourselves and trust in our own strength.  Even Samson was a Danite and like us, sees no reason to separate from the Philistines and instead intermarry (Jdg 14:3-4) with harlots.  Yet this self-righteous spirit and period in all of our maturation are being destroyed along with the image and the beast itself.  The god of Dan that is living within us is the harlotry and idolatry that we will be brought out of in our day of the Lord.

Rev 18:3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

Rev 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

The other specified item that is being destroyed and will not raise up again is what is called the way of Beersheba.

The manner or way of Beersheba

The word Beersheba [H884] means “well of seven” or “seven wells”.  The way of Beersheba is speaking about knowing Christ in the flesh and making a covenant with the flesh (the Philistines) to keep the old man alive and live in peace.  This is the false peace that will be shattered when the Lord is revealed from heaven and brings the fire.

Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

It is the Elect who know and hold the truth but first hold it in unrighteousness (hearing not doing).  Beersheba is where Abraham made a covenant with Abimelech, the king of the Philistines (think our flesh) and sojourned many days at peace (Gen 21:31-34).  That is a shadow of the peace of Christ we find in the Body of Christ (The Israel of God) while we live out our lives in clay vessels.

Gen 21:32 Thus they made a covenant at Beersheba: then Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

Gen 21:33 And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God.

Gen 21:34 And Abraham sojourned in the Philistines’ land many days.

Beersheba is also the place where Hagar miraculously sees a well of water that allows her and Ishmael to live (Gen 21:14-19).  We live through the first covenant and be in bondage, knowing Christ only in the flesh before we come to know Him in Spirit.

Gal 4:24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.

Gal 4:25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.

This Mount Sinai in our Arabia is us when we sit on the Lord’s throne being puffed up with pride and deluded to think we are already a mature man (having arrived).  We don’t know we are in darkness (Mat 6:23) and dwell in a dry and parched land (Famine) without the Spirit leading us.  The spiritual harlot which is “Jerusalem which is now” is driven to use the word to expand her borders and seek ungodly mammon and the things the flush lusts after.

Eze 16:15 But thou didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was.
Eze 16:16 And of thy garments thou didst take, and deckedst thy high places with divers colours, and playedst the harlot thereupon: the like things shall not come, neither shall it be so.

The trusting in ourselves and the strength of our flesh and our own carnal understanding will be cut off and shall never rise up again.  It is those that are being circumcised that will have no confidence in the flesh and are well past the delusion of free will that keeps the whole world in bondage and darkness.

Php 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

Next week Lord willing, we will begin the last of the visions and the last chapter of Amos that is teaching us about the judgment process that is saving us from our sins.

Amo 9:1  I saw the Lord standing upon the altar: and he said, Smite the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not flee away, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered.

Amo 9:2  Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down:

Amo 9:3  And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out thence; and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them:

 “Prophesy Not Against Israel”

Key Verse:  Amos 7:10 – 7:17

We saw in the last study that the plumbline was Jesus Christ and specifically His commandments.  He is His Word and where His people are gathered, there He is in the midst.

Mat 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Zec 2:5 For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her (Spiritual Jerusalem, The Body)

Having this fire kindled in our midst (Luk 12:49) is the Word working righteousness wherever it has been sent.  We are the light unto this dark world within and without ourselves and the light is also the fire that transforms the marred vessels of clay into a new vessel by judgment.

Isa 10:17 And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;

Jer 23:29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

It is through God’s people, His angels, His messengers, His prophets, His Elect…. His Body that salvation is brought to all men in the appointed time.  No man comes any other way.

Rev 15:8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.

The name Amos means “burdensome” (from H6006) and that is what hearing the commands of the Lord are to the rebellious and idolatrous carnally minded old man.  Our carnal instinct is to push away these harsh words and silence these burdensome words that are slowly but surely bringing the man of sin to his wits end.  With this burden in mind, let’s get into our eight verses that will complete chapter 7 and comprise our study for today.

Amo 7:10 Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

Amo 7:11 For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.

Amo 7:12 Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:

Amo 7:13 But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court.

Amo 7:14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:

Amo 7:15 And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

Amo 7:16 Now therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.

Amo 7:17 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.

Enduring to the end and finishing the race we have been given to run is impossible without Christ giving us the faith and strength to stand. What flesh wants to lose its life or abide in the furnace of affliction (Isa 48:10), the very means by which salvation is completed?  The answer of course is no flesh as the carnal mind, is at complete enmity with the ways of the Lord.  We must be dragged to the real Jesus Christ (Joh 6:44) and be caused to learn obedience and be made to lie down in His pastures and be fed with judgment (Eze 34:16).

Eze 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Psa 23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

It is our suffering and afflictions that bring about our submission and obedience.

Psa 119:67 Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.

Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

The setting of the plumbline results in the kingdom of God within losing its peace as the land cannot bear the words spoken by Amos.  Our priestly nature represented by Amaziah, gives the report to King Jeroboam (Our old man, the rejected anointed) of Amos’s prophecy of doom and gloom.  The king prophesied of being slain by the sword and Israel going into captivity is not something our man of sin appreciates when we think we have already arrived and been there done that in terms of our judgment.

1Th 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

1Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

Yet that old man must die by the sword of Jesus Christ (Mat 11:34) who will strive to keep flesh alive but will be overcome by Christ at the appointed time.

Luk 17:33 Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

It is also necessary that we (Israel) go into captivity as these are the days of vengeance leading up to the Lord’s appearing.

Luk 21:22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

Luk 21:23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.

Luk 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

We are reaping what we have sown and we all have certainly lead others captive into sins and false doctrines and have hated our brothers and used the Word deceitfully (Rev 13:10,)

Our flesh is naturally drawn to words that tell us smooth things and we will gravitate to those words and thoughts which take away any reproach from our walking crooked paths contrary to the plumbline that is in now in our midst.  We got to learn to stay the course and fight but first we (are) falling away in error and falling down our “seven times” (Pro 24:16).

2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

The time has come for the fulfillment of prior prophecy to be fulfilled.  The pride and power (horns) of the man of sin that hears but does not do is coming to an end.

Amo 3:14 That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the altars of Bethel: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.

1Sa 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee (Saul, Jeroboam, the man of sin) from being king.

Prideful flesh hates to be corrected and shown where it falls short.  The plumbline is making us more receptive to receive the much-needed rebukes and correction with all humility.  Amaziah, who is our inward immature priest, is not way ready to be shown the faults of the first rejected king (the old man) that he serves.

Amos is rightfully called a seer by Amaziah because he does see with God given eyes to see (Amo 1:1).  All the Lord’s prophets are seers and we dwell in a rebellious house within ourselves and in the world of those the Lord has blinded.

Mat 13:16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

Mat 13:17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

The gospel is being taken to the ends of the earth, within us now and in the ages to come.  A house in rebellion is a house that is yet blind and deaf to Truth.

Eze 12:2 Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house.

Nobody’s flesh desires to drink the cup yet we certainly will drink in our appointed time.  That is the process by which we are prepared to sit at the Lord’s right hand in the heavens.

Mat 20:23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

Our going into captivity is part of being prepared to be able ministers of the Lord who must learn mercy to be able to give it later.  Like Amaziah and all the priests of Israel, it is the chosen of God who will at first not hearken unto the words of the Lord’s prophets.  We have little interest in being shown our disobedience and the details of our walk measured against the plumbline.  We want to hear smooth things.

Isa 30:9 That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD:

Isa 30:10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:

Isa 30:11 Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.

Despite seeing and living out the miracles of coming out of Egypt (the world), we will still not hearken to His words and will first send the Lord’s prophets away.

Psa 81:11 But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.

Psa 81:12 So I gave them up unto their own hearts’ lust: and they walked in their own counsels.

We learn by the judgment process, not to trust in our own righteousness.  It is Pharisees who hear the Word but reject the Lord’s prophets having no interest in being corrected and walking according to the plumbline.  We are of our father the devil when we falsely think we have escaped the damnation of age abiding judgment.

Mat 23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Mat 23:34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city ….

Mat 23:35 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

By rejecting Amos, we are rejecting Christ and storing up wrath for our day of wrath yet to be revealed to us (Rom 2:5).

Joh 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Eze 3:7 But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted.

Immature flesh does not want to submit much less hear the rebukes that are so needed to correct our walk.  We all have come through the door that is Christ and we will reason being one of the shepherds of the sheep (Joh 10:2) eliminates our need to drink the Lord’s cup to be humbled before we can be exalted.  War cannot be waged alone and without a multitude of counselors there is no safety.  We won’t make it abiding alone.

Pro 24:6 For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.

Joh 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

1Co 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

The prideful old man thinks: “Who do you think you are telling me things about the Word of God?  We are in the house of God (Bethel) in the sanctuary (chapel) within the kingdom (court) just like you”.  This is just the lesson Korah taught us (Number 16) and his rebellious followers who would not heed nor submit to the counsel of the Lord’s prophets.  Our not entering in and hindering others (Mat 23:13) will come to and end as we go through our judgment and learn the value of the Lord’s prophets who bring the fire and the correction all of us desperately need.

Heb 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Isa 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Pro 27:5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.

Pro 27:6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

Tit 2:15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

1Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light (in the Body, in the devouring fire), as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

The Lord’s prophets can of themselves do nothing.  When we (Amos) are confronted, and resisted for speaking Truth, we will speak with humility pointing to the Lord’s commission.

Being chief of sinners and the least esteemed of men (Col 1:27), the Lord’s servants feel unqualified till we grow in the faith to speak on behalf of the Lord.  We are never to deny the Lord by denying our calling, we just need to speak with meekness.

Psa 107:2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

Amos like all the prophets come from humble beginnings.  While the Lord’s anointed possess great riches, before we are sent to minister we are humbled by the Lord.

1Co 15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

1Ti 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

Amos is not making excuses for speaking words of fire to King Jeroboam, he is merely asserting the Lord’s sovereignty on this whole affair as is true with all affairs (Dan 4:35).  It is the Lord who takes us from following His flock and promotes us into service.  When our day comes and the Words of Truth are taken to heart (eaten), then we begin our prophesying to the nations within and without ourselves.

Rev 10:10 And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.

Rev 10:11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

Eze 3:1 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel.

Amos in answering Amaziah provides more detail of his ministry than what we learned in Part 1 of the study.  The new information is that he was a gatherer of sycamore fruit which are a type of fig tree/fruit.  There is spiritual significance to Amos’s natural calling to his spiritual calling as the harvest and pruning of trees and fruit producing vines is clearly taking place in the kingdom of God within us.

The word translated as “gather” is H1103 is a referencing to our harvesting figs.

H1103

bâlas

baw-las’

A primitive root; to pinch sycamore figs (a process necessary to ripen them): – gatherer.

Pinching figs is provoking the fig tree to grow more shoots and bring forth even more fruit.  It is the same general process as pruning a vine or a bush.  As the Lord’s Body, we are the instruments by which the spiritual fig trees (The Israel of God) are pruned (pinched) and the harvest is prepared to be soon gathered in the day of judgment.  It is Christ through Christ doing the pinching or the pruning of the trees.

Joh 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

Isa 18:5 For before the harvest, when the bud is perfect And the sour grape is ripening in the flower, He will both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks And take away and cut down the branches.

Figs are an unusual fruit in that they do not ripen after they are picked.  They must be picked at just the right time or else they will be bitter (too early) or rotten if over ripe.  The Lord sends His prophets at just the right time to gather the figs and pinch the shoots and prune the branches.  It is the Body of Christ, aka the Lord’s prophets or angels, who are the fruit pickers and reapers (Rev 14:19) that gather in the harvest in the appointed time.

Mat 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

Mat 13:40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.

Mat 13:41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

When the shoots come forth, the harvesters are not far behind and the time is at hand.

Luk 21:29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;

Luk 21:30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.

Luk 21:31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.

The Lord’s prophets speak with boldness against the idolatry of Amaziah who has no interest in hearing about judgment and wrath and would rather hear smooth things that wrest away the judgment, the very thing that is, was and will be saving us from our sins (Exo 6:6, Isa 1:27).

We are admonished that our heavens (minds) give ear (Deut 32:1) to the commandments and doctrines of the Lord.  Our earth representing our walk and our deeds is similarly admonished to hear and do.

Jer 22:29 O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.

Sending the Lord’s prophets away is rejecting Jesus Christ.  Our failure to come together as a Body is forsaking the Lord and sending away the Lord’s prophets.  The Body of Christ is Jesus Christ whom the whole world persecutes (Acts 9:5, Joh 15:18).  Having knowledge of the truth is not enough to make it.  We will not make it alone and should be wary of all such thoughts of isolation and hiding from our own flesh.  We need one another to provoke one another and pinch the figs shoots so even more good will abound.

Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

We will not be healed and won’t be able to overcome forsaking the assembly with the Lord’s prophets that speak words of fire.  We cannot hide from our own flesh if we want to be delivered.

Eph 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

Isa 58:7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

Before we are given the faith to marry The Christ (the Bride) and see “her” as our appointed Proverbs 31 helper and spiritual wife; we will be given over to our idols and love for this world and its many fornications.  We will instead take the mother of all harlots to wife (Rev 17:5) who is mystery Babylon within us.

Rev 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

Similar words were spoken to Hosea as spoken to Amaziah.

Hos 1:2 The beginning of the word of the LORD by Hosea. And the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD.

Living by every word God spoke includes falling away from our first love and going into the harlot’s house as the Prodigal Son.

Luk 15:30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

Yet it is the Prodigal Son who was given the experience of evil first and who was given the spoils and the fatted calf first.  So, it is the Lord’s way of confounding the wisdom of the wise as it is the harlots and publicans who enter into the kingdom first, not those who need no repentance (Mat 21:31, Luk 15:7).  The Lord is gracious in both causing us to err and in causing us to return to Him.

Jer 3:1 They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.

Heb 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

In our next study, we will begin a review the fourth of the five visions shown to Amos.

Amo 8:1 Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.

Amo 8:2 And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the LORD unto me, the end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them anymore.

The Beginning of Sorrows

Key Verses:  Amos 2:4 – 2:10

The first six transgressions we reviewed in Amos were made against the heathen Gentile nations that surround Israel. Our day of the Lord and corresponding redemption is drawing nigh as we mature in understanding by our judgment. The time is at hand when we begin to see these things looking behind ourselves. Amos takes a turn this week when the judgments of the Lord are now spoken against Judah and Israel.

Luk 21:20  And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

Luk 21:23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.

We live through a time of spiritual immaturity, hearing but not doing the Word and being full of knowledge yet lacking in good works and the fruit of righteousness (Gal 5:22). The Lord’s people are blessed by being the first to keep the Lord’s judgments and do them because that is what brings salvation by the remaking of the marred vessel of clay (Jer 18:4, Rev 21:5).

Eze 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Rev 22:7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

It is these “judgment” experiences that will increase our faith and teach us righteousness right on the Lord’s schedule (1Co 10:13, Joh 16:12). We move beyond the milk and honey and begin to eat strong meat as we are given to bear the affliction and suffering becoming a living sacrifice.

Amo 2:4 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have despised the law of the LORD, and have not kept his commandments, and their lies caused them to err, after the which their fathers have walked:

Amo 2:5 But I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.

Amo 2:6 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes;

Amo 2:7 That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father will go in unto the same maid, to profane my holy name:

Amo 2:8 And they lay themselves down upon clothes laid to pledge by every altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god.

Amo 2:9 Yet destroyed I the  Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.

Amo 2:10 Also I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and led you forty years through the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.

Amos’s prophecy and all the words of Scripture describe our total (two) witness for Jesus Christ who is both the first man Adam and the Lord from heaven (1Co 15:47).

Amo 1:1 The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

When Jesus Christ brings the war to our heavens (Rev 12:7) the process and journey towards salvation begins that will occupy the remainder of our life in physical bodies. It is through many tribulations we ARE ENTERING into the kingdom of God (Act 14:22). We must wait for the appearing of the Lord within and without ourselves. Even after abiding through the judgment of the heathen nations within, it is only the beginning of the race for eternal life.

Mat 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

Mat 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

Mat 24:8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Mat 24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.

Learning obedience by the things we suffer (Heb 5:8) require us to fall down seven times (Pro 24:16) and bear the scourging and chastening that the true grace of God brings to all men in the appointed times (Heb 12:6). We bring the sins and fornication of the world into the Body of Christ with us and that is why we will spend the rest of our days in these clay vessels being taught and prepared for service in our day of the Lord.

Joh 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

2Sa 12:10 Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.

The rest of the Book of Amos will be the judgment of Israel and will reveal some details on what we can expect in running this marathon all the way to the end.

The old man and carnal mind loves the things of this world and despises the law of the Lord.

Luk 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Pro 13:13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

Living by every word the Lord spoke includes walking first as our spiritual fathers did and what all carnally minded men do. Like our forefathers before us and the parable of the sons reveals (Mat 21:28-30), we say we will obey the Lord and His law but do not do it.

Exo 19:8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.

Receiving of the law and the oracles of God is knowledge but until the earthquake comes that brings salvation, this knowledge will puff us up and turn us into self-righteous religious beasts (Rev 13:11). We have yet to see our nakedness and will need to see ourselves as a harlot and publican, the very chief of sinners…. the abomination causing desolation (Mat 24:15) and have this self-righteousness exposed by judgment. It is the one who said he would not go work in His Father’s fields but later repented who enters in first.

Mat 21:31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

The second part of Judah’s transgression is causing others to err from the way. The fire of the Lord is the word that is showing us our hypocrisy and mixing the wine and fornicating with the spiritual harlot and her 200 million lies (Rev 9:16).

Hos 4:11 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.

Hos 4:12 My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.

1Jn 2:21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

We learn just how little a “little leaven” is at the same time we learn just how few the “few chosen” (Mat 22:14) is as we progress.

Amo 2:6 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes;

Our own righteousness will not save us (Mat 5:20) and is filthy rags to the Lord (Isa 64:6). We stand or fall based on the Lord’s will and learning contentment in our trials and suffering is a long journey of “many tribulations”. Carnal men instinctively want to share in the Lord’s glory.

Eze 28:4 With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures:

Php 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

As spiritual adulterers and adulteresses we are still loving this world despite our knowledge and this makes us enemies of God (Jam 4:4). These idols of our deceitful hearts and merchandising ways will be revealed to us when the fire is poured out in full measure.

Psa 115:4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.

Zep 1:18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’S wrath in the land…

Knowledge by itself does not refine us or purify the heavens. It is the trials and the suffering we have been appointed to endure by that knowledge which brings salvation.

Isa 48:10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

Selling the poor for a pair of shoes is us seeking to save our old life and the protection and  comfort of holding on to our own righteousness.  To walk with Christ we must first loose our shoes and walk barefoot knowing our nakedness and the sin that lives within us.  Taking off our shoes is a sign of submission and humility of the dominion the Lord has over every aspect of our lives.  It precedes great judgments and deliverances at the hand of the Lord.

Exo 3:5  And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

Jos 5:15  And the captain of the LORD’S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

Our flesh would rather forsake Christ and keep our sins and feet covered.  So removing our shoes is needed as the Lord begins to spoil and strip our  old way of life and the carnal reasoning that has us bound.

Isa 20:3  And the LORD said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia;

Isa 20:4  So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

When the lost “prodigal” son return to His Father’s house, then the Father’s servants and angels clothe and instruct those released from their Babylonian prisons how to dress themselves in the house of God.

Luk 15:22  But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

Act 12:7  And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

Act 12:8  And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

The Greek word for shoes, G5265 – hupodeō comes from root words meaning to BIND and the Hebrew word for shoes H5275na‛al comes from a root that means to LOCK or BOLT. We become bound to Christ by our judgment and as we mature in the faith, we become able to put on the whole armour of God. This includes wearing the “virtual” sandals of Jesus Christ that is the gospel of peace. These shoes is where we find true comfort and get the protection needed to run the race to the finish line.

Rom 10:15  And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Eph 6:15  And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

We will strive with the flesh and fight a great war in our heart and mind. Our old man and deceitful heart will concoct all manner of carnal lies, reasoning’s and deceits disguised as godliness to save his life rather than lay it down and lose it as a living sacrifice.

Amo 2:7  That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father will go in unto the same maid, to profane my holy name:

Panting after the dust of the earth is having strong desire to swallow (take to heart) the things of the carnal mind and the world. The carnal mind is the seed of the serpent who was ordained to eat dust (Gen 3:14). The Lord’s people are to be shaking this dust off our feet (Mat 10:14) and even commanded to diligently scrape it all off the walls of our houses (Lev 14:41).  Seeking after earthly dust, will cause us to pervert or turn away the way of the humble and the poor in spirit (the needy).

Pro 31:9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

Exo 23:6 Thou shalt not wrest (turn aside) the judgment of thy poor in his cause.

We have many warnings of the lies and false doctrines that arise within and without that pervert the gospel of Jesus Christ and turn us away from the truth. We first do this as sorcerers as we seek gain for our godliness.

Act 13:10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

Going into the same maid as our old man is fornicating with the harlot and the treasures of the world. We will all leave our first love and return to the harlot until Christ comes the second time.

Pro 26:11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

We need to be wise and be circumspect and walk not as fools and try the spirits within ourselves as well as those without (1Jo 4:1).

2Pe 2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

2Pe 2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

Amo 2:8 And they lay themselves down upon clothes laid to pledge by every altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god.

Continuing the theme of merchandising (buying and selling), we clothe ourselves in self-righteousness when we justify ourselves in the house of God. This self-righteousness is being exposed as we are being given the true garments of salvation and suffering the wrath of age enduring fire. We all first attend the wedding feast wearing our own self-made garment.

Mat 22:11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a (proper) wedding garment:

We can’t bypass the Lord’s process. We are not made ready except by living through the complete (all seven) series of seals, trumpets and vials of wrath.

Rev 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

Rev 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

The word for “lay themselves down” [H5186 – nâtâh] is only once in 238 occurrences translated as lay. The word really means to stretch.  Stretching clothes laid to pledge is speaking again of the works of our hands (our silver and dross) in seeking to save ourselves and justify ourselves. Self-righteousness, the old garment, has no place in the Lord’s house and when we try to patch the garments together, the hole from the truth is made worse.

Mat 9:16 No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.

The true raiment of Christ is given to those who are GIVEN to endure through their trials to the very end. We will sow in tears and mourning but reap with joy.

Rev 7:13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?

Rev 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Isa 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Drinking the wine of the condemned in the house of God is us abiding in judgment, taking the punishment for our transgression and harlotry and thereby learning true righteousness in the process of falling and erring from the way (Isa 26:9, Jer 2:19). Anyone (everyone) who worships the beast and receives his mark will drink of the wine of the wrath of God in the house of God.

Rev 14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

Rev 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

It is the Body of Christ, the same being the holy angels (messengers) of the Lord who minister the grace of God and pour out the vials of wrath that work the truth within us (Rev 15:6-8).

Judgment is the blessing and it comes only to the Elect who abide together in communion and fellowship.  Working together as one Body, it is the church that collectively makes known the manifold wisdom of God (Eph 3:10). These verses like all verses speak not of someone else, they speak of you and me if we are the Elect of God. We are condemned now for our self-righteousness so we won’t be condemned later with the rest of mankind.

1Co 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

It is our failing to examine and judge ourselves why many are weak, sickly and asleep.

We rebel and remain disobedient to the law of Christ even after having witnessed the miraculous signs and wonders and deliverances from many enemies and giants.

Jos 5:6 For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

Yet being driven by the carnal law (Heb 9:10) a law that is not good (Eze 20:25) made for the unrighteous (1Ti 1:9) will only get us so far. It takes the coming of Christ and the baptism by fire to enable us to cross over, enter in and begin to possess the land. This happens only when we abide with The Christ who is the Lord’s instruments of the greater works.

Rev 4:4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.

Rev 4:5 And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

The Lord gives us the seasons of relative quiet and peace so we may grow as a babe and feed on the butter/milk  and honey spiritually speaking. Yet to complete His good work in us, the flesh and our sinful way of life, represented here by the Amorites will manifest themselves again and again as our teaching and learning does not end. This is the occasion the Lord is, was and will be seeking to destroy all of our flesh and ultimately the flesh of all men.

Gen 15:16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

Our carnal minded father the devil (Joh 8:44) is the father of all lies and is the father of the Amorites.

Eze 16:3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusalem; Thy birth and thy nativity is of the land of Canaan; thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite.

This spirit of Satan is given power of death (Heb 2:14) and only Jesus Christ the creator and father of all spirits; can destroy the Amorite spirit which is deeply ingrained in all flesh.  The causing us to err from His ways (Isa 63:17, Jud 14:4) is the Lord causing evil in the cities within us to give occasion to bring about the destruction of our flesh. It will not be until the fourth generation or the whole of our judgment that the sins of the heathen Amorite nations will be fulfilled. We must learn patience and to wait on the coming of Christ and His performing His Word in us.

Col 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

Jer 1:12 Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

Being saved is a lifelong process that we must endure to the end. It is not enough to start the race, it must be finished to win the prize (1Co 9:24, 2Ti 4:7) and be in the Holy and blessed first resurrection. The Lord is faithful to move us towards the earthquake that brings salvation little by little only as we can bear it. The Lord will not pass by Israel again once He puts the plumbline of righteousness (The Word) in His people.

Amo 7:8 And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

The words of Christ won’t return void. They will accomplish all the Lord sends them forth to do in the exact day and time ordained (Isa 55:11, Psa 139:16, Isa 46:10) before the world was formed. Next week we will continue with the transgressions of Israel as the rest of the Book is about the enduring judgment of the people of God.

We will begin with the topic of the Nazarites that will carry forward the snare of self-righteousness and us not submitting to the righteousness of Christ that is only by faith. Our zeal of God must be in spirit and in truth.

Rom 10:2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

Rom 10:3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousnessto everyone that believeth.
