Judgment Without Mercy

Key Verses:  Amos 1:11 – 1:12

We begin with the fourth of the eight transgressions and the judgment pronounced upon the territory of Edom and its strongholds. We will spend the entire study on this one transgression and the judgment the Lord brings to chasten and teach us righteousness. We need to be examining ourselves often to ensure we remain in the faith on the narrow road that so few find.

Eph 5:15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

The pattern of words that we discussed in Part 2 continue for each of transgressions. The words “for three transgressions and for four” are not referring to literal numbers and signify what the numbers three and four always signify in the Scriptures. That being the process of spiritual progression (the number three) and the whole (the number four) of our progression that is coming by the judgments and punishments the Lord is speaking regarding the sins of the rebellious inward nations.

Amo 1:11 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath forever:

Amo 1:12 But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

I first want to better render verse 11 that translated two words uniquely just one time in all Scriptures; H7843 for “cast off” and H7536 for “pity”.  These are more clearly translated when the predominate use of these Hebrew words from the KJV is used as rewritten below.

Amo 1:11 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and destroyed H7843 mercy H7536, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath forever:

It is one thing to fail to perform our duty to our family and spiritual brethren from slothfulness or apathy. It is another transgression all together when we actually seek to accuse, attack and destroy our brothers which what the man of the flesh (Edom) does against the man of the Spirit.

Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would

Our stubborn old man does not want to bow down and serve the new man. The enmity the Lord put between flesh and spirit is demonstrated by the interplay of Esau and Jacob. The flesh lives by a sword and strives to get ahead on its own strength using violence (physical and spiritual) by pursuing others, seeking dominion and self-exaltation.  This is the portion for the first Adam before the Lord gives dominion over the flesh to the new man within.

Gen 27:39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him (Esau), Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;

Gen 27:40 And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.

Gen 27:41 And Esau hated (enmity) Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

1Jn 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

The Lord’s mercy endures forever (Psa 136) and as He is so are His Chosen People (Joh 20:21, 1Jo 4:17) to be and to act. If we are to be used of the Lord as Priests and Kings we will be increasingly abundant in mercy and longsuffering, the opposite of the natural instincts of the carnally minded man of Edom.

Psa 145:8 The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

Psa 145:9 The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Casting aside all pity, which is destroying all mercy, is the offense here in Edom. We are seeking preeminence, forgetting the brotherly covenant and doing spiritual violence,  accusing and pursuing our brothers. Salvation begins to come when this spirit is cast out of our heavens.

Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

This is the same preeminence seeking spirit that Diotrephes had that sought dominion over the early church and made a ministry of accusing the brethren.

3Jn 1:10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.

2Co 1:24 Not that we have dominion over your faith, but are fellow workers for your joy; for by faith you stand.

The Lord’s people are to be making judgments (Joh 7:24) and pursue our brothers with the sword of the Spirit (Eph 6:17) to admonish and edify them in the truth.   This is done showing the fruit of the Spirit and NOT THE WORKS OF THE FLESH.

Gal 5:22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Gal 5:23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Gal 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted

Jesus Christ does not tear and break the weak in faith.  The Word of God brings judgment in the appointed times.

Mat 12:20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory

The narrow way of obedience to the Lord calls for us to pull specks out of one another’s eyes but to do it in the prescribed loving and godly way as Matthew 18 and Leviticus 13 tell as priests and watchmen of the flock. But one thing we must never do is to destroy mercy, that is the lovingkindness of the Lord which works true righteousness in us.

Jas 2:13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth (triumphs) against judgment.

Mic 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?

We have stern warnings to not be high minded and look down on others. We have to continue in the goodness of God all the way to the end.

Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

This is such an important abomination to burn out of us we have many examples in the Scriptures and parables of men showing compassion and demonstrating mercy and those that did not. When we are still looking down upon others, we are still justifying ourselves by the works of the law and have departed from the faith. We are still in need of fire to bring the humbling to burn that evil spirit out of us.

Luk 18:9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

Luk 18:10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

Luk 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

Luk 18:12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. (SELF)

Luk 18:13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

Luk 18:14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Our unpayable debt to the Lord is forgiven and we are commanded to show the same compassion to others (Mat 18:27). The forgiven servant which we are will first show no pity or mercy to our fellow servants until we endure the torment of having Edom’s palaces destroyed within.

Mat 18:32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:

Mat 18:33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as I had pity on thee?

Mat 18:34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

When we seek vengeance, we are contending with the Lord and denying HIS SOVEREIGNTY.  All such wrath and vengeance seeking is contrary to faith and a work of the flesh (Edom).

Rom 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

The Lord manifests these events and trials to see if our faith is genuine and fruit producing. Our response to brothers and sisters that are naked and in need of food is to act in obedience (love) and respond by providing the spiritual food, drink and clothing we ourselves are being given.

Mat 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Mat 25:35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

Mat 25:36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

Mat 25:37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

Mat 25:38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

Mat 25:39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

Mat 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Words are indeed cheap in the natural when not combined with action (works). And so it is also in the ways of the Spirit and what is required of those given the gift of faith.

Jas 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

Jas 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

Jas 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

Jas 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

It is the immature man of God that knows the truth yet still holds flesh and men responsible rather than the Lord who is working all things for the counsel of His will. We all will do this outwardly to others in the Body even if secretly in our heart. Yet we also do it inwardly when we can’t get past the shame and guilt for our continued falling down into sin. We must endure this torment (Rev 14:10) and learn that only the Lord can make us or our brethren stand.

Rom 14:4 Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

Rom 14:10 NKJV But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

The judgment of the Lord changes not. It is the Word, the Fire that shall judge us in the last days (Joh 12:48).  The fire will be devouring the habitations and strongholds of Edom.

Amo 1:12 But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

This fire is the good news, it is the blessing of the Lord coming to the new man. Yet to those on the outside of the veil these are just more history lessons with no personal application to themselves (Mat 4:4, 1Co 10:11).  These OT verses are used obscurely to support gigantic lies such as eternal torment. The Scriptures gives us some wonderful insights into these two cities that adds to our understanding of the prophecy of Amos.

TEMAN: Teman was the name of a grandson of Esau, was one of the 12 Dukes of Edom and is also a city in Edom and comes from the root word meaning South.

H8487, têymân, tay-mawn’, tay-mawn’

The same as H8486; Teman, the name of two Edomites, and of the region and descendants of one of them: – south, Teman.

A well-known Temanite was Eliphaz one of JOB’s miserable comforters. Eliphaz did the very things charged against Edom in Amos 1:11. Rather than showing compassion and mercy, Eliphaz failed to judge righteously. He spoke lies about the Lord , made completely false allegations against Job without any witnesses and failed to comfort Job in their carnal minded delusions.

Job 2:11 Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came everyone from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him

Job 42:7 And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath

Edom in general and the city of Teman was due south of Israel and is the opposite of the north which is where judgment comes from spiritually (Eze 20:26, Son 4:16, etc.). The flesh seeks comfort and always settles spiritually speaking to the south side and as far away from the true Jesus Christ and the burden His Words of fire bring.

The mighty men of Teman like the mighty men of Babylon are being cut off so the new man can increase. Obadiah gives a second witness regarding our failure in Teman to judge righteously and our casting off of mercy and doing spiritual violence against our brother Jacob.

Oba 1:9 And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.

Oba 1:10 For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off forever.

Instead of covering sins, a spirit of Edom (Teman) seeks to uncover and expose them and take the new man captive to ways and mind of the flesh.

Oba 1:11 In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.

Oba 1:12 But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.

Bozrah was looked at briefly in the Micah 10 Study and “is” the capital city of Spiritual Edom within you. The same as H1223; Botsrah, a place in Edom: – Bozrah.

Total KJV Occurrences: 9

Gen_36:33, 1Ch_1:44, Isa_34:6, Isa_63:1, Jer_48:24, Jer_49:13, Jer_49:22, Mic_2:12

Bozrah is also part of Moab who was an incestuous son of Lot. We will get into spiritual incest more deeply next week when we look at the transgression of Ammon (the other incestuous son of Lot). Simply put incest spiritually is our uncovering of our family’s sins.

Lev 18:6 None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.

Lev 18:7 The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.

Lev 18:8 The nakedness of thy father’s wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father’s nakedness.

The carnal mind that exalts itself against the ways of the Lord takes delight in exposing others sins and faults. Yet our commission is to cover not UNCOVER the sins of our family in Christ.

Mat 25:36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

Mitch did a comprehensive study on the topic of lust and showed the spiritual applications of all the outward sexual sins that are forbidden.  Lust Study Click Here.

Consistent with the transgression of Edom, the flesh will seek to uncover the sins of others rather than cover them. It takes abiding in the winepress of judgment to learn the right way of responding to our brother infirmities and show compassion and mercy.

Isa 63:1 Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? This that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.

Isa 63:2 Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat?

Those that provided not clothing (the goats) are sent off to age abiding fire to have their garments dyed in the blood of the Lamb. This is the same fire of judgment sent to Bozrah.

Mat 25:43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

Mat 25:46 And these shall go away into (AGE ABIDING) everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

In conclusion, the fault-finding eye of the first man Adam (the man of sin) is not of faith. Such a mindset is based on the flesh, the carnal mind and the lies of Babylon the great Harlot. We bring that mindset into the Body of Christ. We come in still to some degree a ravening beast and we are apt to tear and strangle the meat we are eating to grow thereby. The spiritual food we eat and serve; the “meat indeed” (Joh 6:55) that is Christ’s Body will be torn and strangled by the mind of the man from Edom.

We must be careful with what we put into our heart and guard our every thought and the gates into our heavens diligently. The kings and dukes of Edom shall not inherit the kingdom of God (1Co 15:50) and we should not be seeking, eating or serving this defiled spiritual food.

Dan 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore, he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

1Co 10:21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

The furnace of affliction the Lord uses to purify His Sons, will not fail to succeed. As we are humbled and brought low through trials, we will mature and the man of Edom and that carnal mindset within us that blames, looks down, accuses, finds fault and exalts itself will be cut off.  Then we will be able to bear fruit and show the works that must accompany our faith. Our being pitiful (merciful) and compassionate will be evident to all.

Mat 7:20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

1Pe 3:8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous

Micah Part 10 – Sheep Led to the Slaughter

Key Verses: Micah 2:7 – 2:13

by Pete Wilson

Flesh and blood cannot and was never intended to inherit the kingdom of God.  The first born of God’s witnesses, our life walking after the flesh must be sacrificed to the Lord for the new man, the second witness to be resurrected with Christ (Rev 11:12).  The Elect are the first to endure this process (1 Pe 4:17) so they in turn can become the instruments by which all men will be judged and brought to eternal life (Rev 20:4).  To gain our life we must lose it now and that is likened to us going to a daily slaughter.

Rom 8:36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Judgment is the primary message of all the prophets.  It is both a wonderful and fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.  It depends on which side of the two-edged sword we are talking about.

Psa 139:12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

Isa 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

The Lord works all things for the greater good of those who love (obey) Him.  This includes putting us into darkness, making us blind, so He can then bring us to the light.

Mic 7:8 Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.

Mat 4:16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

1Pe 2:9  But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

It is truly a blessing to be judged now in this age.  It comes to precious few who are able to read, hear and to keep (i.e. live out) the words and judgments spoken about in the Scriptures.

Rev 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

Here are the verses for Part 10 of the study of the Book of Micah.

Mic 2:7 O thou that art named the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the LORD straitened? are these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly?

Mic 2:8 Even of late my people is risen up as an enemy: ye pull off the robe with the garment from them that pass by securely as men averse from war.

Mic 2:9 The women of my people have ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their children have ye taken away my glory forever.

Mic 2:10 Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction.

Mic 2:11 If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.

Mic 2:12 I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men.

Mic 2:13 The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them.

Let’s look at these verses in more detail and link them to the sum of God’s word and the gospel message of salvation.

Mic 2:7 O thou that art named the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the LORD straitened [H7114]? are these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly?

The word straitened [H7114] is only used as “straitened” one time of its 48 occurrences.  This is a poor translation and it would be better translated as “shortened” or “reaped” implying the Lord’s will is cut off or denied when we manifest sin and rebellion in our walk.  The paradox of Scriptures is that the Lord works all things in the life of His clay vessels.  His hand is not too short to save yet our inequities the Lord Himself is causing that separates us from the Lord is not a contradiction.

Isa 59:1 Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened [H7114], that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

Isa 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

The Lord forsaking us for a “little while” (Isa 54:7) is needed to humble us and bring judgment upon our sinful ways and carnal lusts.  This verse in Micah is a rhetorical question that reminds us that our falling into sin and rebellion is 100% the Lord’s doing.  He is working all things for the counsel of His will. Even our very sins are in the box of all things.

Jer 10:23 O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

2Ch 20:6 And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

Joh 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Rom 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

The words of the Lord do good for the new man because over time this grace causes us to walk uprightly.  Isaiah answers the question of who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire and who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings (Isa 33:14).  It’s not people going to a place called eternal hell, it is those who are learning through scourging grace to gain dominion over sin.

Isa 33:15  He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;

The Lording causes us to err from His ways only so He can turn us back to Him and by that process teach us true righteousness.

Psa 90:3 Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.

Mic 2:8  NKJV Lately My people have risen up as an enemy— You pull off the robe with the garment From those who trust you, as they pass by, Like men returned from war.

Mic 2:9  The women of My people you cast out From their pleasant houses; From their children You have taken away My glory forever.

Oppressing our neighbor, doing violence by perverting God’s ways and truths with our worldliness (harlotry) makes us enemies of God (Jam 4:4) and targets for His wrath.  The churches of men, built on the lies of the great harlot, that are also within us are the women who spoil or strip off all of our Godly raiment, both the outer robe and the under garments of Christ’s righteousness.  Trusting in our own strength and our own righteousness, which are filthy rags (Isa 64:6) spoils the pure things of God.

Php 3:2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.

Php 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh

In the time of our becoming a living sacrifice (Rom 12:1) our loving Father will scourge us with grace (Heb 12:6) and bring us back to Him.

Zep 1:8  And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD’S sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king’s children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.

Engaged in full time warfare (Eph 6:12) we become averse to the ongoing struggles and do not always remain vigilant in the good fight of faith.  Leaven can creep in unawares (Jud 1:4) and our deceitful hearts lead us astray (Jer 17:9, Pro 4:23) when we let our guard down.  We need to be constantly reminded of our ongoing warring against the flesh and never grow weary.

1Pe 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Casting out our woman from their pleasant houses and taking away God’s glory from our children (maturing mindsets) is what disobedience brings about on our road to maturity.  “Pleasant houses” here in Micah refers to delicate houses and its root word H6026 (Anag) which links delicate houses with pliable or soft houses.  Our falling down and being judged bring this softness about.

Psa 51:3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me

Psa 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Sin hardens our heart and makes us less pliable in the Potter’s hands.  We are warned to take heed and learn the lessons given to us by the Scriptures (1 Cor 10:11).

Heb 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

Heb 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Heb 3:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

Heb 3:15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

Sin shall no longer be ruling in our mortal fleshly bodies.  Last week we saw that adding to our knowledge is a necessary ingredient to move on to maturity and bear the fruit of brotherly love which starts and ends with obedience (1 Jo 5:3).  This is a serious calling that requires diligent ongoing effort and endurance that only the Lord can and will give us in order to grow.

Rom 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

The word translated “forever” in Micah 2:9 is the Hebrew word olam H5769 and does not mean forever in the same way AION or AIONIOUS is mistranslated in the Greek New Testament.  Our period of judgment is not forever but is an age abiding period of time which the Lord uses to teach us the error of our sinful ways and is the very means of our salvation.  Thankfully, the Lord dies for us when we are yet still the chief of sinners and reconciles us through the death of that first (old) fleshly man Adam.

Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

We are saved from wrath by living through the wrath against our sins and lustful ways now in this age.

Mic 2:10 Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction [H2556].

The Lord will not let us enter into rest while sin is still ruling in our hearts.  The Lord must mix in faith, the ability to believe His word, for us to overcome and learn through our judgments.  We are increasingly given the ability to get up from our falling down and that is how we gain dominion, cease from our own works and find the rest that remains for the people of God.  Yet we need not be lax, slothful or at ease on the journey. Instead we must strive, labour, be diligent and work out our salvation with fear and trembling.

Heb 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Php 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

We looked at this word translated as “destruction”, H2556 “chebel” in Part 9.  It is only translated destruction one time in the 62 occurrences and as we saw it actually means cords or sorrows most of the time.  Either way, this destruction is speaking of the bondage (cords) to sin and the sorrows and pangs we deal with (because of that sin) in giving birth to the new man.  This is how the old man is destroyed and the beast put under subjection to the Christ in us.

Rom 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

Rom 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

Until we learn to arise and move on, we remain to relearn the lessons with more grace poured out upon our sins (Rom 5:20).  Being forgiven and given the healing to pick up our mat and walk comes with an admonition to continue to do well.

Joh 5:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

Our suffering and the judgments of the Lord by the Word (Joh 12:48) in the last days will not return void.  That Word will accomplish all the Lord’s purposes right on time.  We are saved from His wrath by the Lord remaking the marred (destroyed) vessel of clay.

Jer 18:4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred (destroyed) in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

Php 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Mic 2:11  If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.

Our carnal rebellious flesh loves to justify itself and rationalize its continued disobedience, turning grace into lasciviousness.  In the last days, we will at first heap upon ourselves teachers and false prophets that will tell us what our flesh loves to hear (2 Tim 4:3).

Jer 5:31 NKJV The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own power; and My people love to have it so. But what will you do in the end?

This not someone else, it is you and me as the false prophet and the deceiver.  Living by every word includes all these words.

Job 12:16 With Him are strength and prudence. The deceived and the deceiver are His.

Eze 14:4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;

It needs be that we get drunk with wine and strong drink as that is key to learning good and evil and coming to know He truly is the Lord.  This is the falling away that must be.

Deu 29:6 You have not eaten bread, nor have you drunk wine or similar drink, that you may know that I am the LORD your God.

As God’s kings and priests, we must first err and mishandle the things of God and stumble in our day of judgment.

Isa 28:7  But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

This erring from His ways is every bit part of the life of Jesus Christ, who is the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end.  We must first bear the earthy image then the heavenly one (1 Co 15:49).

Eze 14:9 And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

The Lord is not doing this as some monster, He is doing it as a loving Father to teach us the right ways of life and to make us into His people.

Eze 14:11  That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord GOD.

It is our abiding in the fire of the Word, our lake of fire NOW by which our beast and false prophet days are burned up and we are given new garments of salvation (Rev 19:20).

Mic 2:12  I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah [H1223], as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men.

The same Lord that scatters His people and purposefully deceives them, gathers them back into the little flock that is the Body of Christ (Luk 12:32, Eze 34:12).  There His chosen sheep are fed spiritually and that includes being fed judgment.

Eze 34:16 I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.

Jer 23:4 And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD.

A New Testament witness to this prophecy would be this.

Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

Eph 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

1Pe 5:2 Feed (rule) the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

It is these words of fire (Jer 5:14) that brings judgment and perfects us.  This is how over time we are edified and come to unity, the perfect man unto the fullness of Christ.  The Lord’s people make lots of noise in the day of salvation and abiding in judgment by fire of the Word.

1Sa 4:5 And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.

Psa 95:1  O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

Jos 6:20  So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

This noise we make is linked to the sounds of the trumpets which represent the judgments of God that saves us from our sins!  The Word works in us via judgment.  This is how we enter into and possess the land for Christ receiving our salvation from sin.

Now let’s look at the word Bozrah and what it represents and that is the context from which the title “The Sheep Led to the Slaughter” was chosen.  E-Sword shows the Micah 2:12 word “Bozrah” as H1223 that is the same as H1224 in the Strong’s Dictionary as all other references to Bozrah are labelled.

H1224, botsrâh, bots-raw’

The same as H1223; Botsrah, a place in Edom: – Bozrah.

Gen_36:33, 1Ch_1:44, Isa_34:6, Isa_63:1, Jer_48:24, Jer_49:13, Jer_49:22, Mic_2:12 (2)

We will look at a few of these references but first note that Bozrah is part of the land of Moab (Jer 48:24).  Moab was an incestuous son of Lot whose name stands for the fleshly veil that keeps us separated from the Lord.  That veil of flesh must be removed for us to take heed the commandments of the Lord and walk as sons of the light.

Secondly note that Bozrah was also the capital city of Edom (Isa 34:6).  If we remind ourselves of what Esau and Edom symbolize we will be able to see this story applying to our personal day of the Lord more clearly.

H123, ‘ĕdôm,  ed-ome’

From H122; red (see Gen_25:25); Edom, the elder twin-brother of Jacob; hence the region (Idumaea) occupied by him: – Edom, Edomites, Idumea.

Gen 25:25 And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.

Esau and Edom represent the first man Adam (red) which cannot inherit the kingdom of God (1 Cor 15:50) and must bow down and serve the younger new man within all of us (Gen 25:23).

The flesh must be done away with and this is done by gather of the sheep and bringing them together for judgment.  This takes place spiritually outside the camp in Bozrah, in the capital of our fleshly kingdoms.  The sword of the Lord brings the slaughter of our old ways (cutting off) as we abide in our judgment now in this age.

Also remember the meaning of a Morasthite from Part 1 was to be a possessor of a winepress.  Our suffering and dying daily with Christ in the day of our judgment (now) is how we are rightly called Morasthite’ s and obtain our garments of salvation.

Isa 63:3 I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.

The great tribulation that we must live through (not be raptured away) is how our clothes, our covering for sins is washed clean and made pure.

Rev 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, these are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

One of God’s messengers (Philip, Pete, You….), members of the Body will be sent to show understanding to spiritual Eunuch’s of this great mystery and the Lord’s strange work.

Act 8:32  The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

Act 8:33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

The reign of the beast and the life we know in the flesh must be lost in order for us to gain life eternal now in down payment form.  This is the only way we come to know the Lord in truth and in Spirit.  The princes and rulers of the carnal mind, the 200 Million lies of Babylon (Rev (9:16) will be slaughtered in the “harvest” of Bozrah.

Isa 34:5 For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea [EDOM] and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.

Isa 34:6 The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea [EDOM].

As the angels of God, His messengers and the means by which He does the greater works, we by speaking the word and watching over the flock operate the winepress and feed the people with judgment.

Rev 14:19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.

Rev 14:20 And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.

Mic 2:13 NKJV The one who breaks open will come up before them; They will break out, Pass through the gate, And go out by it; Their king will pass before them, With the LORD at their head.

The destruction of the flesh and our way of life in the world is, was and will be occurring as we endure in these marred vessels.  But the purpose of our judgment is to bring us into unity of the faith and mature us into holy men of the Lord.  The Elect are the Body of Christ which is also the bride that is to be without spot (Eph 5:27).  Our wedding garments come with a very high price and only through much tribulation.  The Lord’s arm is not too short to save.  He will save us and it is by this process of judgment.  This is how we break out of our old ways.

Mat 21:44 And whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.”

Neh 1:3 And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

There is a time and season for everything and breaking us down and destroying our carnal strongholds (Dukes of Edom) is a very necessary season of maturing.  Following the Spirit we will walk the straight and narrow way and exit the wide gate.  Entry into the Temple, which Temple God’s Elect are (1 Cor 3:16) is done by living out those vials of wrath (Rev 15:8, Rev 1:3) and being ministered to by fellow overcomers and messengers of the Lord.

Rev 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

It is those who have the true Jesus Christ as their Head abiding in the Body subject to its governance and the multitude of counselors that are the true sons of God.

Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

It is only those given the mind of Christ that are ONE with the Body and the Father.

Joh 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

Joh 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

We will see more detail of our period of being forsaken for a “little while” in next week’s study as we begin Chapter 3.

The Covenant that Deceives

Last week in our study of the first several verses of Obadiah we saw that the prophecy or the battle against Edom begins when we are given ears to hear and Christ in us (the Ambassador) is sent to the heathen nations within and without.  The ambassador speaking Words of fire is what brings judgment to us and ushers in the process of sanctification.

Exo 6:6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:

We also saw that we will at first be puffed up with knowledge until we are proven with trials and those trials will utterly destroy the old prideful man within us in due time.  This week we will study the next 5 verses that provide more detail on the Lord’s process of choosing us out of this world and then through the process of judgment conforming us to His image.

Oba 1:7 All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed against thee; they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee: there is none understanding in him.

Oba 1:8 Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?

Oba 1:9 And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.

Oba 1:10 For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

Oba 1:11  In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.

We must go thru Babylon first to find the real Jesus Christ.  And this means we will first come to know ‘another jesus’, be deceived, eat defiled spiritual food and speaks lies and blaspheme the Lord by teaching DOCTRINES such as eternal hell fire, free will and the trinity.  During this time, we will persecute Christ (within us and without) in our religious zeal and not execute the love of God in our strong delusion.  This is what an outwardly looking ‘clean beast’ does when we speak lies.

Rev 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

All of God’s people come out of Egypt and then sacrifice to devils knowing another jesus first.  We first worship the beast we all are in our self righteousness.

Hos 11:1 When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt

Hos 11:2 As they called them, so they went from them: they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven image

But our marrying up with the harlot church and its lies is all the Lord’s plan and in the end it is the very occasion the Lord seeks to bring judgment against Mount Edom within us.

Let’s look deeper at our first verse of this Part 2.

Oba 1:7 All the men of thy confederacy [H1285] have brought thee even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed against thee; they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee: there is none understanding in him.

This verse speaks to our unconverted state when we come to Christ but still have no real understanding.  We can readily see the Hebrew word translated as ‘confederacy’ really is the word covenant as it is almost always translated.

When the Lord first drags us, He uses Babylon to first draw us out of the world (Egypt). But our time is not yet and we must first know Christ in the flesh,  believe false doctrines and worship the beast.  We will be multiplied during this season and that keeps us and the whole world deceived and bound in captivity toiling in vain.

Jer 29:4  Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;

Jer 29:5 Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;

Jer 29:6 Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.

Jer 29:7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

Moses brings us the law which is only a schoolmaster until Christ brings the Law of Spirit and life [grace and Truth].

Gal 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Until Christ comes to us, there is no real truth and we remain children of darkness.  Darkness is when we have no understanding or true wisdom into the things of God.  We have yet to hear the report (the rumour Obadiah is speaking about) or much less believe it.

Eph 5:8 (NLT) For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!

Jer 4:22 For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

The Lord is calling light out of the darkness of the heavens and earth that He created.

Jer 4:23 I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.

But a time will come when the Lord will say ‘let there be light’.  In that day, this Babylonian time of false peace and prosperity will come to an end.

1Th 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

1Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

The peace is a false peace.  Inwardly a war is fixin to come.

Jer 6:14 They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

The Word is a two edged sword and at first is a snare and a trap to bring us under the law of Moses and believing it is our own will and righteousness that makes us right with God.   We all fall backwards when we first come into the presence of Christ. No man in the presence of Christ lives.

Isa 28:13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

Joh 18:6 As Jesus said “I AM He,” they all drew back and fell to the ground!

Exo 33:19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.

Exo 33:20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

Strong’s definitions show us that the word for covenant is taken from H1262 (in the sense of cutting (like H1254)); a compact (because made by passing between pieces of flesh): – confederacy, [con-]feder[-ate], covenant, league.

This directly associates the making of a covenant with what we are eating and being fed spiritually speaking.

H1262

áÌøä

bârâh

baw-raw’

A primitive root; to select; also (as denominative from H1250) to feed; also (as equivalent to H1305) to render clear (Ecc_3:18): – choose, (cause to) eat, manifest, (give) meat.

The covenant meal or the communion with Christ is in fact linked to eating His bread.

1Co 11:24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

Joh 6:53  Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

Yet it works in our days of darkness as well and the time we spend in Babylon feeding on the lies of orthodox Christianity and becoming ensnared to the elements of this world and its obsessions with days, times and years and other abominations.  We eat leavened bread, tainted with lies whilst in spiritual darkness.

Pro 4:17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

1Co 10:21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

Do not forget that the law of Moses and the law of the gentiles, our consciences accusing or excusing us, is this self-same spirit of the great harlot that we must come out of.

Rom 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

Rom 2:15  Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

It is only after we are ‘dragged’ to Christ and given to eat at the table of the Lord in the Body that we are being given understanding of the true doctrines of Christ.  We feed on the mountain of the Lord with ‘The Christ’ and this is what we are eating.

Eze 34:16 I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.

Here is our second verse of this study.

Oba 1:8 Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?

The wisdom of this world and of Edom within is being destroyed when we are given our ears to hear and the ambassador goes forth to preach to the heathen nations within us.  We won’t see the Truth until we are first shown that we are blind, in spiritual darkness believing lies.

Joh 9:39  And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind

Jer 49:7 Concerning Edom, thus saith the LORD of hosts; Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?

The good news is this covenant with death; us being under the law will be disannulled by God through Christ.  It will come about when the war in our heavens and battle against Mt. Edom takes place in the day of every man’s judgment as Obadiah’s prophecy and also Isaiah 28 attest.

Isa 28:18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

The letter of the law of Moses, before Christ brings grace and Truth is spiritual death to us, the letter kills.

2Co 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

That ‘day’ referenced in Oba 1:8 is the day of the Lord.  This is the same day Peter spoke (Act 2:20) about and which the prophet Joel also spoke would come in the appointed times.

Joe 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

This destruction of our carnal knowledge and worldly wisdom is a marvelous work of God.

Isa 29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

Isa 29:14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.  (See also 1 Cor 1:19)

Here is our next verse of Part 2.

Oba 1:9 And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.

Having our light turned to darkness and seeing we have been deceived will bring about much dismay when judgment falls upon the house of God and the heathen nations within.  As God’s people we are the first to be judged (1 Pet 4:19).  The gentile nations will have trodden down Jerusalem within and without and hold us captive awaiting our day of judgment.  But when that process begins, there will be great dismay or perplexity in our heavens and earth as we see Christ appearing in the clouds (The Body) and our faith is increased.

Luk 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

Luk 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Luk 21:26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

Luk 21:27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

Luk 21:28  And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

When the trials begin and our heavens are shaken with the scourging grace that saves us, we are dismayed and fear being weak in the faith.

Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

This brings to mind the parable of the disciples in the vessel on the sea being tossed and turned by the waves.

Mat 8:24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.

Mat 8:25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.

Mat 8:26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

Waves are caused when winds (spirits) come against the sea (flesh) and as such are doctrines. We are tossed and turned by every wind of doctrine until we come to our wits end and the Lord delivers us. That is how we are put into then dragged out of Babylon in due time and our faith is proven with fiery trials.

Psa 107:25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.

Jer 51:42 The sea is come up upon Babylon: she is covered (with carnal/fleshly lies of Babylon) with the multitude of the waves thereof.

Everyone on the mount of Esau will ultimately be cut off by slaughter.  The old man will be slain by the truth of God’s word being revealed to the nations within.  This process of slaying is linked to the process of cutting off which we saw earlier was also integral to the definition of forming a covenant.  The act of ‘circumcision’ itself is this cutting off process and how the Lord separates His people and marks them as His.

Gen 17:14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.

And of course what is really being spoken about is the circumcision of our hearts and cleansing of our heavens and that only happens by the finger of God.  No fleshly hands involved here.

Col 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

Rom 2:28  For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

Php 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

When the Lord brings grace and Truth, i.e. the renewed covenant to us, He is cutting off and show no pity to the old man and our old ways of life.  All things shall indeed be made new!

Eze 7:9 And mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: I will recompense thee according to thy ways and thine abominations that are in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I am the LORD that smiteth.

Zep 1:4 I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests;

The words of Christ are the living waters we hear and speak in the Body that brings about this great deliverance by cutting off the mount of Edom within us.

Zec 13:1 In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.

Zec 13:2 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.

It is the lies and false doctrines that defile our heavens so when the Lord brings us into the truth He cuts off those things that cause us to err from His ways.

Isa 9:14 Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.

Isa 9:15 The ancient and honourable, he the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he the tail.

Isa 9:16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.

Joh 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Here is our next verse of the study to look into.

Oba 1:10 For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

Our flesh wants the blessing of God and despises the fact it does not receive it.  The Lord is not saving our old man, He is saving the new man that is born of spirit.

Gen 37:3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.

Gen 37:4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.

Gen 27:41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

The Lord teaches us that merely hating someone in our hearts is in spiritual ‘murder’.

1Jn 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

Doing violence against our brother in Scripture is the opposite of loving our brothers and neighbors as Christ is commanding.

Mat 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.

Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

When we do violence against our brother/neighbor we are a false witness and are not honoring the Lord much less obeying His commandments.  Again we must actually become doers of this word and not just hearers to know and practice the true love of God.

1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments

Luk 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Lest we forgot our role as kings and priests of the Lord, as Christ, ministering to the flock, speaking the words of fire and bringing comfort to our brethren let’s recall:

Mat 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Mat 25:35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

Mat 25:36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

Contrast Jesus blessing to His saints who practiced love by feeding, clothing, housing and giving drink to the naked and the sick versus the ways of the carnal mind and the world which is accusing the brethren, pointing of the finger. We treasure up wrath.

Rom 2:1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

Rom 2:2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

Rom 2:3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

Rom 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

Rom 2:5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

Before Christ comes to bring judgment to the heathen nations, we are incapable of loving God much less our neighbor.  All the earth is corrupted with this violence and must be remade to enter the kingdom of God.

Gen 6:11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

Gen 6:12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

Gen 6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

Christ spoke of the treachery of all mankind and how we as beasts were all innately violent incapable of doing good.

Mat 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

Mar 10:18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

Jud 1:10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.

Eze 28:16  By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

We will be brought low and shown our innate sinfulness (nakedness), see the ‘abomination of desolation’ which are standing in the temple of God where it ought not to be.  When we see this, then you can be sure the destruction of the mount of Esau within is underway.

Mat 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

Ecc 3:18  I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

Before we are shown this by the WORD, we will be blind and unware of our spiritual nakedness and not even ashamed of it just like Adam and Eve.  But the day of the Lord comes to us, when the ambassador that is Christ speaks to us and we are shown who and what we truly are and this is leading us to repentance.

Nah 3:5 Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.

Jer 51:51 We are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of the LORD’S house.

It is a painful yet necessary process to go thru to enter the kingdom of God. We must bear our shame and be chopped down from our prideful position.

Eze 44:13 And they shall not come near unto me, to do the office of a priest unto me, nor to come near to any of my holy things, in the most holy place: but they shall bear their shame, and their abominations which they have committed.

It is the trials of our faith and bearing the afflictions of Christ that covers us with Christ’s righteousness.

Rev 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

We are blessed indeed by being in that First Resurrection if we are given to keep watch and not let our garments be spoiled by sin.

Rev 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

In conclusion we see that the old covenant i.e. the law of Moses and the law of the gentiles, our consciences excusing or accusing us, the covenant of death, is the very thing that deceives us but praise the Lord it shall not stand. HE IS THE LORD.

Eze 20:25 Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and judgments whereby they should not live;

Eze 20:26  And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that openeth the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am the LORD.

Our last verse will really be covered in the next study Part 3 but I will use it to set the stage for Part 3.

Oba 1:11 In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.

Verse 11 is the lead-up to the next three verses where the Lord lays out the ‘accusations’ against us. The accusations against us relate to us defrauding and oppressing our brother Jacob and conspiring to plunder his goods. We will cover the specifics of those accusations of the Lord in the next installment (Part 3 of Obadiah) and determine what we all first do even though we actually believe we are religious and righteous before God.

Joh 16:1 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

Joh 16:2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

Biblical Truth

The Book of Obadiah – Part 1

Obadiah Part 1 – Dec 17, 2015 (click to view, download or print PDF)

Oba 1:1 The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.

Oba 1:2 Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly despised.

Oba 1:3 The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?

Oba 1:4 Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.

Oba 1:5  If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?

Oba 1:6  How are the things of Esau searched out! how are his hidden things sought up!

Obadiah’s vision is an important part of the sum of God’s Word. This little book is in fact the Words of Jesus Christ and if we followed Babylonian traditions, they would be highlighted in red. The Lord speaks through Obadiah and all His prophets which are the very Elect chosen by God in each age. So there really is no such thing as a “minor prophet”, these are the Words of the Lord.

Hos 12:10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

2Pe 3:1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

2Pe 3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Savior:

1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

This book of Obadiah tells the story of all of us. This is our life and our walk being described here, the positive and the negative, the flesh and the spirit, our disobedience and our eventual obedience.

Mat 4:4  But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

God’s people, the Christ of Christ are a kind of firstfruits and to whom and about the Scriptures are written (Jas 1:18, Rev 17:14, etc).

Gen 1:1 In the FIRSTFRUITS (beginning) God created the heaven and the earth.

First comes Adam, the natural man of the flesh and then secondly comes the 2nd Adam, the Lord from heaven. It’s is all the work of the Lord as He is the Alpha and the Omega and all in between.

1Co 15:47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

Rev 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

Isa 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

Let’s look deeper into verse 1.

Oba 1:1 The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.

Obadiah heard a rumour (H8052) which begins the prophecy. He was given ears to hear and eyes to see as is also given to God’s Elect who are the Lord’s prophets. It is interesting that the word for rumour is most often translated as rumour or report but is also the word translated DOCTRINE in this key verse from Isaiah 28:

Isa 28:9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? (H8052) them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

So Obadiah heard doctrine. He was made/caused to believe “the REPORT” of the Lord. He was given ears to hear and eyes to see and to understand the Words of Christ and thus began this prophecy and sharing of what the Lord was saying.  Likewise, when we are given our ‘ears to hear’, we too are sent forth among the heathen to arise and go into battle.

Isa 53:1 Who hath believed our report? (H8052) and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?

Mat 13:9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Job 33:16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,

The vision (revelation) was concerning EDOM, which is a symbol of the first man Adam and the pulls of the flesh and the beast within that must be overcome.  So this prophecy is about what happens to EDOM within us.   Salvation is accomplished now by us being given dominion over the old man.

Rom 9:13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

Gen 36:1 Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom.

The battle that Christ must wage begins in us when He arises to fight this battle against the flesh.

Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

Being remade into a new creation, the process of salvation requires the new man in us, Christ in us, to rise up and go fight the pulls of the flesh and carnal mindedness. We all start in a place of disobedience and at the appointed time, we are called to arise and go fight EDOM and that includes our own flesh. Salvation comes as we are given dominion over EDOM and the flesh (Esau) serves the new man (Jacob).

Gen 25:23 And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.

David as a type of Christ reveals that we will take captive the pulls of the flesh and the flesh will serve us and not the other way around.

2Sa 8:14 And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became David’s servants. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

The last key point on verse 1 is the reference to ambassadors.  God’s Elect are Christ’s ambassadors in this world and it is thru us that His Word is spoken and the greater spiritual works of the Lord are accomplished.

2Co 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

Jer 5:14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

I found it very instructive to the inward application of this battle and ambassadorship by looking at the Hebrew word H6735.  Almost half the time it is used, it is translated as pangs, sorrow or pain.

Here is one example of this same word translated ambassador is used to speak of birth pangs.

Isa 13:8  And they shall be afraid: pangs (H6735) and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.

This is a powerful confirmation that being an ambassador for Christ is making war against the heathen first and foremost by laying siege to the nations of the heathens within us.  This is what brings about the pangs of childbirth and the sorrow of the old man and why this word used as ‘ambassador’ in Obadiah is also rightfully used as pangs, sorrow, pain, etc.  Here is what besieging the heathen nations means in New Testament terms.

Mat 10:34  Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

Mat 10:35  For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against  her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

Mat 10:36  And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.

Living and abiding in CHRIST is how these words of an ambassador (fire) are spoken and do their work in the appointed times.  Ambassadors do not get entangled in the affairs of the nation to which they are sent.  We truly need to be separated, being in the world but not of the world.

2Ti 2:4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

Php 3:20  For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ

Jas 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

This ambassadorship will bring us great scorn among the heathen within and without, who cannot hear Christ’s Words at first and who will bring persecution to Christ.

This conflict will rage in our own heavens as the Word of God that is this fire begins to prick our hearts and tear down the kingdom of the beast sitting in God’s temple.  It continues until the old man is completely destroyed and the land made utterly desolate.

Isa 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

Isa 6:9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

Isa 6:10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

Isa 6:11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate,

The battle against EDOM is spiritual as we wrestle not against flesh but against spirits, lies and false doctrines that defile our heavens.

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

2Co 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

2Co 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Verse 2 reminds us how precious few are given to know and experience these things in this age.

Oba 1:2 Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly despised.

Many are called and few are chosen to be God’s Elect in this age. The Israel of God was purposefully made small and surrounded by much bigger nations. To top it off, the Lord has put enmity between us and everyone else in this world that has not the mind of Christ.

Mat 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Deu 7:7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:

Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

There is nothing attractive about Christ and this is true for our Lord but also for us, His Christ.

Isa 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

1Jn 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

And this is the Lord’s MO and why He used the despised to do His work.

1Co 1:28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

1Co 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

It is worth noting here that this vision of Obadiah is very similar to other Scriptures and particularly these verses from Jeremiah 49.

Jer 49:14 I have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.

Jer 49:15 For, lo, I will make thee small among the heathen, and despised among men.

Jer 49:16 Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.

Jer 49:17 Also Edom shall be a desolation: every one that goeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof.

The parable seems to impart the same message of God’s Elect being called out and separated and given to understand true doctrine.  Then that very word puffs us up and then in turn is used

to show us our own innate wickedness which brings us low and ushers in salvation.  But that is not a ten second sinner’s prayer, it is a painful process of judgment, suffering and affliction that we must endure to enter into the Kingdom of God.

Act 14:22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Rev 15:8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.

Verses 3 and 4 show the pattern of what we all do with knowledge when we are first given our ears to ear and eyes to see.

This prophecy like all Scripture is first and foremost to be applied inwardly and what God is doing and showing us in His kingdom which kingdom is within us (Luke 17:21).  We won’t be exalted and used of the Lord until we are first humbled but first comes the budding of our pride.

Mat 23:12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

Pro 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

This is exactly what we do when we are still in ‘Mystery Babylon’, the harlot of harlots, even though we have been long gone from the orthodox churches.  We are exalted and in need of nothing.

Rev 18:7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.

Jer 49:4 Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? That  trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto me?

Isaiah 14 comes quickly to mind here when reading Oba 1:3-4.  Those words are written to Israel and include a proverb about the King of Babylon who is you and me before we are humbled.

Isa 14:1 For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.

The mercy the Lord will bring to us in due time are the trials.  But in the meantime we run off puffed up on knowledge and the pride that is in our carnal DNA.

Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Isa 14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

The clefts of the rock are places where we dwell and this is the refuge that is found on the mountain  tops.  We sit there in our self-righteousness until the Lord brings His righteous judgments against  the proud tree we all first become.  Reminds me of what happened to another king of Babylon.

Dan 4:13 I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;

Dan 4:14 He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:

Being exalted as an eagle here is a negative application of that word. Eagles sit high up on the cliffs and rule the skies and are ravenous eaters consuming lots of meat.  The negative spiritual application of this is we get puffed up with knowledge before we are proven with trials and the result is pride will blossom.

Rev 6:15  And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains

But we cannot hide when our day of the Lord comes, the Word will search us out.

Eze 7:9 And mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: I will recompense thee according to thy ways and thine abominations that are in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I am the LORD that smiteth.

Eze 7:10  Behold the day, behold, it is come: the morning is gone forth; the rod hath blossomed, pride hath budded.

We are first found by the Lord and brought into the marvelous Truth and born on the wings of Christ.  A great example of this is Deut 32.

Deu 32:9 For the LORD’S portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.

Deu 32:10 He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.

Deu 32:11 As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:

Deu 32:12 So the LORD alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.

But here is what we all will do before we are tried with the fire. We get fat!

Deu 32:13 He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock;

Deu 32:14 Butter of kine, and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat; and thou didst drink the pure blood of the grape.

Deu 32:15 But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick,  thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

Deu 32:16 They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger.

Deu 32:17 They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.

Deu 32:18 Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.

Deu 32:22 For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.

Sitting back reading Scriptures, gaining knowledge not coming to the Body and having fervent fellowship, is a trade mark of a self-exalted ‘eagle’.  It brings these Scriptures to mind.

Joh 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Joh 5:40 And ye will not come to me (MY BODY), that ye might have life.

The key takeaway of this lesson is the often repeated lesson in Scripture is that we must do the Word not just hear it.  This can only be done in the Body, serving Christ.

Jas 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Luk 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Faith along with knowledge does not save us. This faith must lead to works and that is how we are being justified in due time.

Jas 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

Jas 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

Jas 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed

Jas 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

Jas 2:25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

Jas 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

This is a necessary and painful process for us to be so humbled.  The day of the Lord will not come to our heavens until this is lived out.  These words are also is, was and will be!

2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Here is an Old Testament witness to the same event of us as God’s Elect handling the Word of God deceitfully and then being destroyed by the brightness of the Lord’s coming within.  We won’t be able to hid in the cleft of the rock forever.

Eze 28:13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

Eze 28:14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

Eze 28:15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

Eze 28:16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

Eze 28:17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

Eze 28:18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.

Eze 28:19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.

We all must be humbled in our day of judgment. The pride of man will be cut down after we get puffed up with knowledge. We hide ourselves and deceive ourselves in the clefts of the rocks on the mountains of flesh (EDOM and ESAU). When thinking we have arrived and are no longer in need of repentance.  Those high places must be brought low by the Lord.

Eze 6:3 And say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys; Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places.

Mic 3:12  Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

And here is a new testament witness to the judgment when we get puffed up on knowledge but do not practice pure and undefiled religion before God.

Luk 12:47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

Until we come to see ourselves for what we truly are and recognize we are sinning machines (without Christ), we ARE remaining self-exalted in our puffed up knowledge. We should always have the attitude Paul expressed.

1Ti 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

Mar 2:17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

We must be diligent to constantly examine ourselves and our walk to see if we are in the faith.

Oba 1:5 If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?

The Lord wants it all.  We have been redeemed with a price and when He comes to us He is not going to leave anything unturned.  It is all going to be plundered as we are made anew.

1Th 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

1Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

The thief comes in the night, a time of spiritual darkness when we are not aware of our marred abominable condition even after having knowledge.

Rev 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

The question about thieves leaving something behind and the ‘grapegatherers’ leaving some grapes on the vine are rhetorical questions and the answer is clearly NO. They will take it all as Esau will be laid bare.

When Christ comes to clean His house (His Temple, which temple we are) He leaves no stone unturned.

Luk 21:5 And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said,

Luk 21:6  As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

Isa 24:3 The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word.

Num 31:11 And they (Israel) took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.

Being puffed up, the reward we receive shall be paid back double upon our own head.

Jer 51:53 Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD.

Jer 51:54 A sound of a cry cometh from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans:

Jer 51:55 Because the LORD hath spoiled Babylon, and destroyed out of her the great voice; when her waves do roar like great waters, a noise of their voice is uttered:

‘The Christ’ is the thief and the robbers that spoil the land and this is, was and will be bringing deliverance to those on Mt. Esau as we will see at the end of the book.

The words of fire spoken accomplish their purposes in our day of the Lord and that day of judgment is now for God’s Elect.

Jer 51:20 Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;

Jer 51:21 And with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and his rider;

Jer 51:22 With thee also will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the maid;

Jer 51:23 I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers.

It is Christ (i.e. His Body) speaking the Words of fire that break the rock and is the method by which the Lord replaces our heart of stone with a heart of flesh.

Jer 23:29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

Eze 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

Oba 1:6 How are the things of Esau searched out! how are his hidden things sought up!

The flesh will be thoroughly searched out and all things that oppose Christ will be laid bare and nothing shall be spared.  Jeremiah 49 gives us multiple witnesses and here are just three that

speak to the completeness of God’s Word, the four winds of heaven completing their work within us all in our day of the Lord.

Jer 49:10  But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is spoiled, and his brethren, and his neighbours, and he is not.

Jer 49:13  For I have sworn by myself, saith the LORD, that Bozrah (a sheepfold) shall become a desolation, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes.

God is calling light out of the darkness that He created first. First comes the darkness then comes the light and that all in the appointed times and due seasons.

Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Peter tells us who we are as God’s Elect, the redeemed people of God who have been called out of darkness into the marvelous ‘Light’ that is Christ.

1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

1Pe 2:10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

It is the light of Christ that will bring the knowledge of God thru the Body and which SANCTIFIES US in the appointed time.

2Co 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

The battle against Edom (Esau) is relentless. Nothing will be missed.  All the hidden things shall be found by the light of the WORD.

Luk 8:17 (NKJV) For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.

The day of the Lord is when these things happen to us.  That day is in this age if we are God’s Elect and is a day no man knows but the Father. The light of ‘The Christ’ will bring the judgment

to us first. We are the first to experience death of our old man and carnal lusts thru this process. Our idols will become a booty or spoil to ‘the Christ’ who will come in the spiritual darkness of night.

Zep 1:12 And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and do good, neither will he do evil.

Zep 1:13 Therefore their goods shall become a booty, and their houses a desolation: they shall also build houses, but not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, but not drink the wine thereof.

Here we see our role as the lights bringing judgment thru the words of fire we speak.

Oba 1:18  And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.

This bringing judgment comes thru the Words of Christ which we speak and hear. He is the Light of this world that searches these things out.  Yet His Christ is also the light of the world and the very instruments the Lord uses to bring judgment to the inward and outward nations.

Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

We should be doing this in down payment form now, speaking the words that shall judge us in the ‘last days’.

Mat 19:28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

1Co 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

1Co 6:3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

When the time is right the righteous judgment of God will shine the light of the WORD onto the hidden things of darkness in each of our hearts.

1Co 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

If we are God’s Elect, we are doing this today within the Body, this is our period of “on the job Training” preparing us for the greater roles we shall have if we are so blessed to be in that blessed and first Holy Resurrection.  The Lord is preparing us to be the very instruments thru which He rules during the Millennium.   Also our function as the lake of fire bringing salvation to all men thru the process of judgment. There is no greater honor a man could strive to attain to than to be in the blessed and first holy resurrection and be used this way of the Lord.

We see in this study that God’s Elect are far from infallible (Pro 24:16). By being humbled and given the mercy of fiery trials, we are being prepared of God to bring mercy to others.

Rom 11:30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:

Rom 11:31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.

Thank you for joining us for this study.  I hope it was edifying in some ways.  See you next week for Part 2 Lord willing!
