“Come to Gilgal and Multiply Transgressions”

Key Verses:  Amos 4:1 – 4:5

The smiting of the winter house with the summer house (Amo 3:15) via the Word published in our heavens was last week’s focus and another way of stating the Lord’s process about how Jesus Christ is increased within us.

Amo 3:15 And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith the LORD.

Here we continue in Amos past the man-made chapter break with the prophecy and details of this smiting with the summer house and how the spiritual circumcision is accomplished.

Amo 4:1 Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.

Amo 4:2 The Lord GOD hath sworn by his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks.

Amo 4:3 And ye shall go out at the breaches, every cow at that which is before her; and ye shall cast them into the palace, saith the LORD.

Amo 4:4 Come to Bethel, and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes after three years:

Amo 4:5 And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and proclaim and publish the free offerings: for this liketh you, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

This chapter continues the process of the Lord dragging His naturally rebellious people (Isa 1:2), who are at enmity with His commands back to Himself.

Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me DRAG (draw) him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

This chapter (this study and next) will show just have involved the Lord’s hand in the process of leading us into sin and destruction for the purposes of bringing us back in due time (Psa 90:3).

Amo 4:1 Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.

The bulls (kine) of Bashan represents the strength of the flesh that yet surrounds the new man in the same way the Assyrian army is the sword of the Lord (Isa 10:5, Psa 19:13). When the Lord seeks an occasion (Jdg 14:4), He has an army and has placed a law of sin within our members to manifest transgressions that create the chastening moments.

Psa 22:12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.

Rom 7:15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

All of our works, the good and the bad, are His works (Phi 2:13, Isa 64:8). Whether it is speaking of strong bulls, tall oaks or high hills, Bashan is linked to and symbolizes the yet carnal pride of man that must be brought low in judgment. The kine of Bashan is symbolic speak of us when our beastly nature is still alive and well and sitting on God’s throne (2Th 4).  Zealous for knowledge and righteousness, yet in an immature state, our faith has not yet been tried in the fire (Rev 3:18). We have to live the words (Mat 4:4) that call for us to wax fat, get puffed up in our own conceits. This gives the Lord the occasion He seeks to bring the fire of judgment.

Deu 32:15 But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

Deu 32:16 They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger.

A New Testament version of this would be:

1Co 11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

1Co 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

We can’t serve two masters. We either love the one and hate the other (Mat 6:24) and a jealous God, who is longsuffering, brings an end to it in the appointed times.

Pro 16:5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

Pro 16:6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

When we are in it for ourselves, we are oppressing the poor and breaking (crushing) the needy within ourselves and without. A spirit of self-righteousness, believing we bring anything to the table, is this oppression of the needy.

Mat 12:20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.

1Co 4:7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?

Eating and drinking in the kingdom is important, yet it is our service that is more important. Only the DOERS, those that love God by their obedience enter in and not the hearers that feast and drink on the knowledge.

Rom 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

1Co 8:1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity (love, our obedience) edifieth.

Seeking knowledge above obeying the Lord is a trait of the Pharisees. Our righteousness has to exceed that of a self-righteous Pharisee (Mat 5:19-20) to enter into the kingdom of heaven and be in the first resurrection. As our judgment and the furnace of affliction intensifies, we are given to eat strong meat. Thus begins the overcoming and gaining dominion over the flesh and Babylonian/Samaritan spirits of the great harlot.

Eze 39:18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.

It is the weak, the poor in fleshly spirit that has the victory. Until we are humbled by being shown our inequities we cannot be exalted (Jas 4:10, Luk 14:11). That exaltation will not be us, it will be Christ in us.

Amo 4:2 The Lord GOD hath sworn by his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks [H6793] and your posterity with fishhooks [H1729] [H5518]

The Lord has sworn that He will save us and all mankind (Tit 1:2, Heb 6:13). That day will come, and we are learning the patience and requirement to wait for the promises (Rev 14:12, Heb 6:15). We are saved by grace through our faith that is given to us (Eph 2:8). Faith is also likened to a shield, an integral component of the whole armor of God.

Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

What takes us away from our old way of life is what the KJV translators call hooks [H6793] but this word is actually the word for shield and buckler (a small shield).

Psa 5:12  For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

It is our faith in the Word, our belief which bears us and lifts us up and draws us to Christ and via the process takes us away from old life. It is this armor, the helmet of salvation and the shield of faith that Christ in us uses waging war against the flesh.

Eze 38:3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:

Eze 38:4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:

Eze 38:5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:

Even the word translated for fishhooks found only one time in Scripture and that rendering needs to be modified to bring the best understanding. The word for fishhooks is coming from two distinctive Hebrew words one ostensibly meaning FISHERS [H1729] POTS [H5518].

Our “posterity” is referring to our end or the later days of the carnal way of life as we prepare and endure through judgment that transforms us into a mature man in Christ. Being boiled in a pot is likened to be seethed in a pot and this spiritual represents the many trials and tribulations we all have to endure to enter into the kingdom of God (Act 14:22).

The Body of Christ, which is broken for us, is our spiritual food. It is how we grow and we partake of this dying daily in following (remembering) our Lord. This is the One Bread and the true communion, the blessed few chosen to be judged now in this age are partaking of daily (Gal 2:20).

Mat 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

Our maturity is likened to our ability to eat strong meat which is bearing these trials and afflictions with joy knowing it is the Lord saving us by the process.

Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

A recent email thread recently spoke of the significance of seething a kid in his mother’s milk that primarily spoke to not giving babes more than they can bear (Deut 14:21, Exo 34:26).  The Lord is faithful to not try us beyond our ability (Joh 16:12, 1Co 10:13) yet He is preparing us for trials and afflictions as those are necessary to bring us to our wits end and usher in salvation. This is the food and the communion the priest of the Lord, which priests we are, eat from the seething and boiling pot/caldron.

1Sa 2:13 And the priests’ custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

1Sa 2:14 And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

Jeremiah was shown the vision of judgment coming to Israel and he saw this seething pot that is the food the mature of the Lord begin to eat when made ready.

Jer 1:13 And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.

It is our dying daily that is our daily bread. This is the prayer of the saints to be given this food that brings forth the kingdom of God within us (Luk 11:3).

 Rom 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 

Rom 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Rom 5:3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

The second word used to derive “fishhooks” is H1729 is also found only once in the scriptures.

All men and all of the Lord’s disciples are fisherman in spiritual terms. We try to catch men. Of course we are first working for the devil and fishing for men in seeking ungodly mammon.  We capture many in the nets (200 million lies) of the great harlot (Mat 4:18,Hab 1:5-6). The coming of Jesus Christ into our life and heavens changes our fishing objective. We are transformed into fishers of men being used of the Lord to bring this seething pot (within and without ourselves) to a boil in the heavens and earth of those the Lord is saving. Ultimately all men will be caught by the truth of God’s word.

Mat 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Jer 16:16 Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

The Body of Christ is made up of the fish dragged out of Samaria or found hiding in the crevices of the mountains of the great harlot. The Lord brings us into the Holy City and there we begin to eat meat out of this pot being a living sacrifice unto the Lord (Rom 12:1). When gathered together, we minister to each other and give “Christ” a piece of fish and an honeycomb. Grace through faith is the food that Christ serves to the multitudes.

Luk 24:42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.

Mar 6:38 He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.

Our next verse is a profound verse of how salvation comes to the Gentiles, which Gentiles we are when we are being dragged to The Christ. The verse requires some rework to see the truth.

Amo 4:3 And ye shall go out at the breaches, every [H802] cow at that which is before her; and ye shall cast them into the palace [H2038], saith the LORD.

There is much scholarly dispute over the word palace here.  A key contention is the word for palace, only used one time in all Scriptures and which most translators link back to the primary word for palace H2036. There is good reason to not use Strong’s as an infallible source, it is not.

Many scholars believe “harmon” should have been Hermon and thus a totally different rendering comes into view. Here’s an excerpt from the Holman Bible Dictionary.

HARMON (hahr’ muhn) Place name of uncertain meaning in Amos 4:3 as translated by NRSV, NAS, NIV. KJV reads, “palace,” changing the first letter of the Hebrew word to a common Hebrew noun for royal fortresses. TEV does not translate the final Hebrew word, saying it is unclear. REB changes two Hebrew letters slightly to translate, “dunghill.” The earliest Greek translation read, “Mount Rimmon.” Some Bible students change the first letter slightly to read, “Mount Hermon.” If Harmon, the unchanged Hebrew text, is read, we know nothing of the place meant.

My view of this is that Hermon is the correct rendering, speaking to Mt. Hermon as it is consistent with the next verse and symbols of Bethel and Gilgal. The Lord is calling His people out of Babylon/Samaria to Himself meaning His Body. Here are three other versions.

Amo 4:3 NKJV You will go out through broken walls, Each one straight ahead of her, And you will be cast into Harmon,” Says the LORD.

Amo 4:4 NKJV “Come to Bethel and transgress, At Gilgal multiply transgression; Bring your sacrifices every morning, Your tithes every three days.

 Amo 4:3 ISV Each of you will go out through the breaches of the walls straight to Mt. Hermon,” declares the LORD.

Amo 4:4 ISV “Come to Bethel and sin, to Gilgal and sin even more! Bring along your morning sacrifices, and pay your tithes every other day. 

 Amo 4:3 CLV And at the breaches shall you fare forth, each woman straight in front of her, and you shall be flung toward the highland, (averring is Yahweh Elohim).”

Amo 4:4 CLV Come to Bethel and transgress! At Gilgal increase the transgression! And bring your sacrifices for the morning, and your tithes for three days!”

We come into the Body of Christ bringing many idols and lies to be burned out of us (Eze 23:11, Joh 16:12). As we are given ears to hear, cracks, gaps and holes develop in our doctrines and these are the opening the Lord uses to bring us to Him. There will be no holes in the wall of the new temple, which temple we are (1Co 3:16) as we continue onward towards maturity.  For the new temple to be built, the existing one needs to be destroyed by judgment.

Amo 9:11 In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:

The number three signifies our process of spiritual progression towards maturity. It is only on the third day we are being perfected (Luk 13:32). It is only on the third day the temple within us are being raised up in Christ (Joh 2:9). In the third year, we are being able to bring our tithes, which is the laying down of our life, the entire increase of Christ within us to the Lord (Deut 14:28, Mal 3:10).

Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Mt. Harmon/Hermon means the house of God also just as Bethel and even Gilgal.

Deu 4:47 And they possessed his (King Sihon’s) land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, which were on this side Jordan toward the sunrising;

Deu 4:48 From Aroer, which is by the bank of the river Arnon, even unto mount Sion, which is Hermon

Heb 12:22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels (The Body of Christ).

It is the dew of Mt. Hermon that is the dew of Mt. Zion and the moisture that brings forth the fruit and harvest for the Lord.

Psa 133:1 A Song of degrees of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

Psa 133:2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

Psa 133:3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

We need to always remember that all these things in the Old Testament are written for our admonition, to teach the Body of Christ spiritual lessons and knowledge (1Co 10:11, 1Pe 1:1012). Crossing over the Jordan river is a type of baptism and spiritually part of our maturing process. The real battle with the giants of the land do not begin until we get across that river and camp with Israel. We transgress from Bashan east of the Jordan to Gilgal which is on the west side. That is indeed how we follow Christ, we follow the Sun of Righteousness which like the physical sun goes from east to west (Rom 1:20).

Mat 24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Gilgal means Wheel or Wheels and symbolizes the camp of the Israel of God just across the Jordan River.

The Body is the wheel of the Lord’s Ark (cart) that takes the Word wheresover He shall lead us. The OT witness to Mat 12:20 is the one place the root of Gilgal is used.

Isa 28:28 Bread corn is bruised; because he will not ever be threshing it, nor break it with the wheel[H1536] of his cart, nor bruise it with his horsemen.

There are many studies on the IWWB site that speak of the whirling wheels of Ezekiel, witnesses that show that wheels in their positive use are the elect of God abiding in The Christ.

Gilgal is where we are after first crossing the Jordan River and begin the spiritual circumcision needed to fight the giants (sins/idols) in the land. We have progressed beyond milk and no longer are eating the manna from heaven but eating the fruit of the land as we are conquering and possessing more of the Kingdom of God within us (Luk 17:20-21).

Jos 5:8 And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

Jos 5:9 And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.

Jos 5:10 And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

It is in Gilgal we begin to grow, moving beyond the milk and the self-righteous law of Moses and partake of the true bread from heaven.

Jos 5:12 And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna anymore; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

Gilgal is where many victories are won (Jos 10:7, 10:10, 10:12). But Gilgal is also where the rejected anointed old man within us is exposed by the prophets of the Lord. The story of King Saul failing to obey the Lord by taking the spoil of the Amalekites show was in the camp of the saints (Gilgal).

1Sa 15:21 But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal

1Sa 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

The Lord calls us into Bethel (House of God) and into Gilgal (both The Body) and says to multiply our transgressions. God hates sin but as we know, He works evil for good and is the one causing us to err from His ways (Isa 63:17) so judgment can be brought that is turning us back. It is through the chastening of the Lord’s grace that we learn to walk in obedience (Heb 12:6).  Where sin abounds, grace abound even more and eventually brings salvation (Rom 5:20).

Psa 119:67 Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.

It is here in Gilgal, through the recompense of our transgressions that we are learning obedience through these sufferings (Heb 5:8). It is here in Gilgal that we first learn the sacrifices the Lord truly desires.

1Sa 10:8 And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.

It is the peace of God, we learn in the Christ that transcends all understanding and keeps us through all of our trials (Phi 4:7). It is here where we are still transgressing that we become thankful in all things (Eph 5:20).

Amo 4:5 And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and proclaim and publish the free offerings: for this liketh you, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

As we come into the Body of Christ, known by many names and symbols, we are still in clay vessels that are not yet perfected. We are being redeemed now in down payment form and have to wait until the resurrection for the fullness.

Rom 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

To find peace with the Lord we are commanded to offer sacrifices of thanksgiving with leaven.  This is an integral part of the Law of the Offering that reveal Jesus Christ.

Lev 7:13 Besides the cakes, he shall offer for his offering leavened bread with the sacrifice of thanksgiving of his peace offerings.

We are learning to be at peace with God and where we are in The Christ, knowing all of it is 100% the Lord’s work. The peace offering is shared with the entire Body (the priests and his sons) and is the only offering from which the offeror is fed. This is the nourishment we are having to give us the strength and spiritual growth to endure to the end to be saved. That only comes in communion in the Beloved which is Jesus Christ.

Eph 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

When we are rooted in Christ and established in faith, then we truly can give the Lord thanks in all things and we are at peace.

Col 2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

Next week Lord willing, we will pick back up with verse 5 and move forward with the Lord demanding  why we have not yet returned to Him in our hearts despite all the miraculous signs and wonders.

Eating Strong Meat

Key Verses:  Micah 7:9 – 7:15

Here near the end of Micah, judgment is in full bloom.   As we saw last week, those being judged are now looking to the Lord.  This is what men do when they are given to know that the bearing of the cup of wrath will hasten the appearing of the Lord within us as the enemies of the new man are destroyed off the earth (Jer 22:29).  Patience is being learned as we wait for the coming of the Lord and experience many trials and temptations that draw us closer to Christ who is the lamp for our walk of faith.

Mic 7:8 Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.

1Pe 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

Contrary to the Babylonian lie of substitutionary atonement, all men will reap what they sow.  Our sinfulness is punished as our loving Father disciplines us by pouring out His grace in executing judgment.   The Body of Christ lives these words out now as judgment is now on the house of God as our old man is tormented in the presence of the holy angels in “The Christ”.

Rev 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

The rest of mankind are reserved to the Lake of Fire to bear their punishment and endure their torment in their appointed time of judgment.

2Pe 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

This prophecy like all prophecies applies in an “is, was and will be” manner.  God’s Elect live them out now, as judgment is now on His House (1Pe 4:17) and the rest of mankind will live them out later in the Great White Throne Judgment in the Lake of Fire. Here are the 7 verses for today’s detailed study in the last chapter of Micah.

Mic 7:9 I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.

Mic 7:14 Feed thy people with thy rod, the flock of thine heritage, which dwell solitarily in the wood, in the midst of Carmel: let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old.

Mic 7:15 According to the days of thy coming out of the land of Egypt will I shew unto him marvellous things.

All men have sinned and trespassed against the Lord.  There is no one good no one, not even one!  Simply put, flesh is not good and cannot inherit the kingdom of God.  The way we are made “good” is by the process of judgment that destroys the first vessel.

Jer 18:4 And the vessel that he made of clay was DESTROYED (marred) in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

Losing our old life is required to gain our new life.  This life swapping process is only finished when we take our last breath living a crucified life for Christ Jesus as the Lord set the example we will follow.

Joh 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Mic 7:9 I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.

If we are so blessed to be shown the depths of our sin and given the faith to believe the Word, then we have what is needed to bear the indignation of God against our sin.  We know it is that very process that accomplishes the will of the Lord and brings about our sanctification. In due time, all men are brought to Christ, who is the light unto the world through His Christ (Mat 5:14).  It is there “In Christ”, where we will behold His righteousness and where judgment is, was and will be executed.

Jer 33:15 In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.

Zec 8:16 These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:

The spiritually dead that hear our voice, hear the voice of Christ the True Shepherd and those words will execute judgment.

Joh 5:26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

Joh 5:27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

It is the Body of Christ through whom the Lord works.  We have been given ALL AUTHORITY in heaven and earth because as He is so are we in this world (1Jo 4:17). We are the instruments of judgment and salvation to all men.

The Lord drags us to His Light as the true Jesus Christ is repulsive to flesh and the carnal mind esteems Him not (Isa 53:3).  We don’t decide to follow Him on our own, He turns us into destruction and also turns us back to Him in our day of the Lord (Psa 90:3).

Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Eze 38:4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:

Rom 9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

It is the consuming fire of the Word that brings forth righteousness.  This does not come by our abiding alone. It come by our abiding in the midst of the fire which is the Body of Christ.

Mic 7:10 Then she that is mine enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her which said unto me, Where is the LORD thy God? mine eyes shall behold her: now shall she be trodden down as the mire of the streets.

Our enemies that persecute and mock us will be shamed when they see the Lord’s work in us and see that He truly loved those He chastens and scourges. Our enemies shall come bow down before Christ in us.  In this age, it is our inward enemies who seek to suppress and kill Christ within us that will bow down to Christ in us.  However in due time, in the Lake of Fire, our outward enemies will also come bow before us.

Rev 3:9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

The true sons of God will be made manifest and the whole world will know the chosen few in whom the Lord has been working in ushering His plan for salvation of all men.

Isa 60:14 The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee, The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

Of course if we are in that first resurrection we will have forgiven our enemies fully knowing they were mere instruments of the Lord to bring salvation to us and truly knew not what they were doing.

Rom 11:30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:

Rom 11:31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.

When our enemies behold the truth, they will be in judgment going through the same process the Elect already have been through. To be carnally minded IS DEATH and those thoughts and mindsets represent the dust (mire) of the streets that is trodden down in the day of the Lord.

Isa 28:18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

The time of the Gentiles treading down Jerusalem is fulfilled when the Lord returns for judgment.  Then the enemies of God shall see who The Christ and be ashamed.

Luk 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled….

Luk 21:27 And then shall they see (Behold) the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

It is the Body of Christ who fight and tread down the Lord’s enemies with the Word (Zec 10:5).

Christ via The Body of Christ builds the walls and the gates of the Temple which separate us from the heathen world within and without us.  But when that construction project commences, the law of God, the decree, the statutes and ordinances of the Lord are far removed from us as our old way of life continues to manifest.  Our struggles with sin bring doubt and mockers both within is and without as judgment falls upon us.

Act 13:41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.

2Pe 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

The construction of the Temple of God within us commences long before our enemies are subdued within and without.  The Book of Nehemiah shows us this as the escaped remnant from Babylon (The Elect in type and shadow) endured much stumbling as the wall was built until they began to walk in the counsel of the Lord.

Neh 1:7 We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.

Neh 10:38 And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.

When Christ shows up on the inside to bring war to our heavens, the new man is blessed beyond belief.  Yet it takes much travailing for this inward righteousness to begin to show up on the outside. In the natural it takes several years for good fruit to appear on fruit trees and so it is in the spiritual (Rom 1:20, Heb 12:11).  We must learn patience in waiting for the fruit.

Jas 5:7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

When judgment suddenly comes upon us, it is likened to the days of Noah and Lot.  It is a time of eating, drinking and being merry and then suddenly destruction comes.  Obedience and our focus on treasures in heaven is not yet in view. Our initial testimony is false.  All talk and no action, we continue to make a pretense in our worship of God, seeking gain and making merchandise until a fuller measure of grace is poured out to turn us back to the Lord.

Mat 23:3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not…

Mat 23:5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

Yet we are mere clay, truly the Lord’s workmanship.  He alone is the builder of His House.  He starts the construction and He finishes it right on schedule (Isa 46:10, Isa 64:8).  When the Lord begins working with us and making us into doers, it is the day of small beginnings.

Zec 4:9 The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you.

Zec 4:10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

The Body of Christ are the eyes of the Lord in bringing judgment and protecting the sheep as faithful watchmen.

The whole of the earth, the inward and the outward will be subject to judgment.  All of the land within and without, every nation, tribe and tongue will become part of the kingdom of God as every knee shall bow.

Rev 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

The Lord uses everything, nothing is wasted in bringing about our sanctification when He is performing His will in our life.  The Lord has devised means to save His people and that includes working the evil and the good (Isa 45:7) to save men. He even raises up the Assyrian King within us and in this world outwardly to bring occasion for judgment and usher in salvation (Isa 10:6).   Those that overcome are symbolized both by those that stand on the Mountain of God and also those that have dominion over the sea.  Earlier in the Micah study we covered these verses which also closely mirror the words of Isaiah 2 and which speak to events of the Lake of Fire when there is no more war.

Mic 4:1 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.

Flesh is symbolized in Scripture by the sea (Rev 20:8, Rev 16:3).  Ultimately there will be no more seas as all flesh is destroyed by judgment as the last enemy to be destroyed is death which means no more flesh.  This comes to the Elect first in down payment form but ultimately to all mankind at as the Millennium comes to an end and the judgment of the lake of fire commences.

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

Jesus Christ has overcome the world and everything in the world and one day too all men In Christ will be able to spiritually walk on the sea which is symbolic to gaining dominion over sin.

Rev 15:2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.

Psa 72:8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.

The fruit of the Spirit begins with Love which is our obedience the judgments of God and the chastening grace causes us to walk in His way (Eze 36:27).  Fruit of the Spirit is manifest in those who “have” and are crucifying the flesh and its evil desires, AFTER we have walked in the fire of judgment.

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

As we begin to partake of communion with the Body of Christ we begin to eat at the King’s Table and grow and thereby produce the fruit for which we have been chosen to produce.

Joh 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Being fed the rod is being fed the word of God which judges us in the last day.  What is bitter to the old way of life and the flesh is sweet to the new man and is what nourishes the new man.

Rev 10:10 And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter

Eze 2:9 And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein;

Eze 2:10 And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe.

The Lord’s Elect, the Body speak those words of fire (Jer 5:14) that consume the adversaries of God.  We are they that feed the flock of God and give one another the very spiritual food that grows and matures the new man within us. Christ tells Peter 3 times in John 21 to feed and to nourish His sheep signifying the process of spiritual completion (three) by judgment.

Rev 7:17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

Eze 34:16 I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.

These “marvelous” [H6381] works of the Lord are indeed the same “wonderful” [H6381] works of the Lord to the children of men in Psalm 107. These works are His judgments and the trials and tribulations we must endure to be delivered from the world (Egypt) and its carnal way of life.  These many signs and wonders are the many tribulations of Acts 14:22.

Psa 107:15 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

Isa 8:18 Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.

Carmel, Bashan and Gilead are all places where the Lord’s people gain great spiritual victories.  All those stories are written for our admonition to teach us valuable spiritual truths (1Co 10:11, 1Pe 1:12).  Carmel is where all the lies and false doctrines of Baal are cast out of our heavens (1Ki 18:40) as we kill all the false prophets.

Bashan and Gilead represent the land of King Og and where Israel had a wonderful overcoming experience with a major enemy. King Og was the last obstacle east of the Jordan for Israel to cross over and enter into the promised land and begin to be fruitful and multiply.  For us to advance and mature we must too be overcomers.

Deu 3:3 So the LORD our God delivered into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people: and we smote him until none was left to him remaining.

Deu 3:4 And we took all his cities at that time, there was not a city which we took not from them, threescore cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

Deu 3:5 All these cities were fenced with high walls, gates, and bars; beside unwalled towns a great many.

Yet we don’t continue to fight.  We get complacent.  We are warned not to become slothful not to grow weary but continue to strive and endure to the end.  The same shall be saved.

Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

In that day, the Lord will awaken us to righteousness and get us back feeding on our enemies the way we did in type and shadow in Bashan and Gilead. Enemies of Christ are bread for the new man.  The mighty men of the flesh, the bulls of Bashan become food for us.

Num 14:9 Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.

We learn to eat strong meat as a mature man and that is dying to self, bearing the trials and the afflictions for which all of God’s Elect have been appointed.  This is spiritual nourishment for Christ in is to grow and mature and bear fruit that remains.

Eze 39:18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.

Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Joh 6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him

Breaking bread with our fellow brethren is sharing the Word and fellowship with Christ.  Eating the Word is partaking of the suffering and affliction for which all of God’s Elect have been appointed (Phi 1:29).  This is how we endure, dying daily and ultimately become overcomers.

1Co 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

Christ is His Body and the Body is the Tree of Life. As we overcome and conquer the enemies of the Lord, we are eating of the tree of life. The old man is dying and Christ is being raised to eternal life.

Rev 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

Eating of this bread, the Body of Christ is the hidden manna that the world does not know.  But we who are overcoming have the mind of Christ and bear His name in a mystery.

Rev 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

Next week Lord willing, we will conclude the Book of Micah and review the final five verses.  A brief summary of the entire book will also be provided to bring to remembrance the things we have studies these past 5 months.

“He Rebuketh the Sea”

In Part one we covered the first three verses of Nahum with the focus on the Burden of Nineveh which is the oppressive yoke and heavy burden we carry during our time in Babylon under the influences of the false doctrines of orthodoxy and the great harlot within. We carry this burden until Christ comes to us the second time and gives us faith and “ears to hear and eyes to see”.

Jos 5:2 At that time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.

Isa 11:11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

We first must know the Lord in the flesh but when He comes to us the second time, we know Him no longer that way (2 Cor 5:16). So Christ comes to us twice and when He does appear it “is, was and will be” to finish the good work He started and to put away sin. We must be dragged thru the second veil and into the Body of Christ (Joh 6:44, Heb 10:20, Isa 6).

Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation

We see this play out with Jonah first going to Nineveh to preach repentance and then Nahum going back the second time. Nineveh did repent from Jonah’s preaching (Jon 3:10), but the process of turning a heathen nation into a godly nation submitted to the Lord, requires a second baptism (Mat 3:11). First the washing of water by the Word but then the baptism of fire, the fiery judgments against the old man which are absolutely necessary. This only comes about when we can hear the Word spoken by the angels/messengers/prophets of God in the last day. No man enters the Temple that is Christ by any other way.

Rev 15:6 And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles.

Rev 15:7 And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever.

Rev 15:8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.

It is through the righteous judgment of God and the jealousy of the Lord for His people that the spiritual House of the Lord, the Temple is built. This is true grace which are also the mercies of the Lord to the new man.

Zec 1:14 So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

Zec 1:15 And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

Zec 1:16 Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.

The first baptism of leaving Egypt, the world, brings us to Christ in the flesh. We are east of the Jordan River and the real tribulation and battles in our heavens lie ahead on the other side of the river.   As a carnal babe in the east our faith has yet to be tested nor have we withstood the fiery trials necessary to purify us (Mat 3:11). The baptism of fire is still needed and these OT stories are ensamples of what we must endure as Christ’s sons.  The new man that is born during the wilderness journey must be circumcised.

Jos 5:5 Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.

And this of course has nothing to do with the acts or free will of any man. It is all the Lord’s work in us and happens on His schedule preordained for all men.

Col 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

Eze 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

The burden we carry is when we seek to serve Christ in the flesh and without the benefit of spiritual circumcision made without hands. The Law of Moses and the law of the Gentiles represent this burden in type and shadow. They are the oppressive yoke and heavy burden we carry when trying to serve the Lord by our self-righteous deeds, separated from God by the great chasm no man can cross (Luke 16:26). The newly converted disciples came to understand that no man can bear that yoke of making himself righteous. It is impossible for men.

Act 15:10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Act 15:11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

It is the anointing of Christ, the oil of the Holy Spirit, the hearing of the Truth of the Word and pure doctrine that breaks this fleshly yoke and removes the spirit of heaviness and replaces it with the light burden and easy yoke of Christ (Mat 11:30).

Isa 10:27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

I must also cover an important foundation about the book of Nahum I did not notice until this week. The word Nahum is very instructive to the prophecy itself which like all the prophets, is about the ambassador, Christ, being sent to the nations to preach the Gospel that brings about the remaking of the marred vessel of clay.  Here is the definition of Nahum from Strong’s.

 H5151 – nachûm, nakh-oom’

From H5162; comfortable; Nachum, an Israelitish prophet: – Nahum.

As we can see the name Nahum is taken from H5162 which means to comfort.  But notice also that this root word is as often used in reference to “repentance”.  Comforting the new man is brought about by bringing knowledge on the trials and process of God making known His judgments (Rom 9:22-23) which brings about repentance thru the trials.

Nahum is a type of Christ coming to us and us as Christ going to others. “The Christ” is this Comforter and you are this comforter if you are in “The Christ” speaking words of Spirit and Truth.

Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Seeing ourselves while in the Body as Jesus Christ this comforter is the opposite side of the two edged sword and our roles as saviors by bringing judgment. The Christ brings deliverance to us by speaking the Words that judge us and that burn up and consumes the wood (carnal mindedness) within us. But those same words and that same process is what makes known the manifold wisdom of God to the church as we saw in Part one. It is the knowledge of the Truth that comforts the new man and gives us the patience to endure. It is foolishness to the natural man that judgment and comfort could be opposite sides of the same Word and the process by which we are saved.  Even Noah who spoke of wrath was a comforter!

Gen 5:29 And he called his name Noah saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.

The Body of Christ, Jerusalem above, is who comforts us and teach us that the Lord has not poured out all this “wrath and judgment” without cause. These verses perfectly sum this up and use the root word from which Nahum is taken and show us the positive side of the word evil to add to what Ernesto shared on the email list recently.

Eze 14:21 For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?

Eze 14:22 Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

Eze 14:23 And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord GOD.

We saw in Part one that the Lord is jealous and has His way in the whirlwind which is how He extracts vengeance for His Temple that we defile. We also saw that it was God’s elect (aka the Body of Christ), that are the feet of the Lord who bring this through the spoken Word. Today we continue with further detail on this process to bring the heathen nations under the dominion of the Lord.

Nah 1:4 He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.

Nah 1:5 The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.

Nah 1:6 Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

There comes a time when the Lord will not put up anymore with having His Holy Name blasphemed by His people. That is why He brings judgment and rebukes us sharply.

Eze 36:22 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went.

Eze 36:23 And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.

Eze 36:24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.

Salvation is the putting away of sin and casting out of “wickedness and everything that exalts” from our heavens and our earth. This is a process that begins when the Lord’s throne in us is being prepared for judgment.

Joh 9:39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.

Psa 9:7 But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment.

It is expedient that Jesus in the flesh goes away, because that enables the Comforter to come and bring the Word and understanding that will work its marvelous work of reproving sin, ushering in righteousness through judgment (Joh 16:7-8).

The sea which the Lord rebukes is the flesh, our flesh and the flesh of all men (Isa 60:5, Rev 21:1).  The Lord initiates our judgment by rebuking the sea which is our carnal fleshly way of life and sets us on dry land.  We begin our journey by coming up out of the sea yet we are on dry land and have a journey to yet endure.

Rev 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

Exo 15:19 For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.

Cutting off the waters that sustain our fleshly beastly way of life is how the Lord brings us to our wits end and ultimately saves all men.

Isa 50:2 Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst.

Without water anything alive will languish, wither and ultimately die. There is a method in the Lord’s ways to bring about the demise of the beastly nature of man and bring the old man to their wits end.

Amo 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

As Psalm 107 tells us, the Lord is one who both creates the storms on the sea of our flesh and is also the one who calms them.  He rebukes the seas to try us and test our faith and cause us to turn to Him and away from our carnality to save ourselves.  Here is a nice summary of that in this parable as well.

Mat 8:24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.

Mat 8:25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.

Mat 8:26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

The mountains are the kingdoms of the flesh and they will be shaken by the spiritual earthquakes. The seven vials of wrath cause many progressive earthquakes as the Lord rebukes our sinful and blaspheming ways (Rev 6:12, Rev 8:5, Rev 11:3, Heb 12:26).

Rev 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: [ we now have eyes that see ] and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

This remaking of the marred vessel of clay (the earth) is done by fiery trials. Heat and pressure is how precious gem stones are made and it is no different in the spiritual.

Psa 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

The melting away of these hills and mountains is what results from the Lord’s rebuking and is how the wicked within us perish thru this scourging grace (Heb 12:6).

Psa 112:10 The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.

Isa 13:7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt:

We will get comfortable in this fire and walking with Christ, Lord willing. Contrary to the lies of orthodox Christianity, those that walk in the fire are not sinners burning in hell forever.

Isa 33:14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?

Isa 33:15 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;

To answer the rhetorical question of Nah 1:6; No man shall be able to stand the fury of the Lord’s judgment and wrath poured out. All shall be made new; the old shall indeed pass away as the Lord and His Christ are refiners in the fire.

Mal 3:2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:

Mal 3:3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

1Co 3:13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.

The rocks thrown down represent the Word of God we twist and pervert to build a temple for the Lord.  But it is held together with untampered mortar (slime) and will not stand. The coming of Christ the second time unto salvation means all these stones that make up the temple built by man’s hands will be thrown down.

Mat 24:2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

1Ki 18:38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

Eze 13:14 So will I break down the wall that ye have daubed with untempered morter, and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

To complete this study we need to go back and look deeper at verse four and the places being spoken about and what this may mean.

Nah 1:4 He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.

Maturing in faith is a process, a journey, and that is what these details on places and events are referencing. The application of Romans 1:20 to how physical children grow up and learn apply in the spiritual as well. We learn from experience and we learn by making mistakes and having our parents correct us. Such is the way the Lord works in the spiritual realm. The revelation of Jesus Christ is a progressive journey requiring “seven angels who cast fire upon our earth” and bring many “earthquakes and tribulation” to our heavens and earth.

Rev 8:7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

The languishing of Bashan, Carmel and the flower of Lebanon symbolize this ongoing and progressive process of judgment as we come out of the world, sojourn in the wilderness, move from carnal babes in Christ to maturity as we become settled in true doctrines and continues on “being saved” through the righteousness of Christ in us as He increases and we decrease.

The parable of the Sower tells us the seed does not first take root.

Mat 13:4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:

Mat 13:5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:

Mat 13:6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

Mat 13:7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:

Mat 13:8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

Withering and languishing is part of the process to teach us as a righteous man must fall down seven times and learn true righteousness through the process of judgment (Isa 26:9). Trying our faith and chastening us is the grace of God in action and is how men are being saved (1 Pet 1:7, Exo 20:20) and this is how the Lord accomplishes it. To languish means to be weak or to be sick or feeble. A day will come when the nations within are tried in the fire and we are shown what we are truly made of in our fleshly yet carnal condition. Then the real work of Christ begins.

Luk 5:31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

Luk 5:32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Ecc 3:18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

Christ is not coming or appearing to those who do not yet see this. The 99 that do not need repentance, have not been visited yet by the Great Physician.

When judgment is pronounced upon our earth, what Nahum describes comes to pass. The causing us to err (Isa 63:17), having fruitless branches grow from the vine (Joh 15:2), is all the Lord’s work in us to seek an occasion to bring judgment and the fire that cleanses.

Isa 33:9 The earth mourneth and languisheth: Lebanon is ashamedand hewn down: Sharon is like a wilderness; and Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits.

Isa 33:10 Now will I rise, saith the LORD; now will I be exalted; now will I lift up myself.

Isa 33:11 Ye shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: your breath, as fire, shall devour you.

Isa 33:12 And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: as thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire.

All three of the places mentioned here in verse four, Bashan, Carmel and Lebanon are within the boundaries and definitions of the physical land that was promised to Israel (Gen 15:18).  Yet we know these Words are Spirit and the promise was Spirit and as we review these locations we will hopefully begin to see the Lord’s process of judging and maturing us referenced in these geographical symbols. These three places are representative of the progressive process of judgment which begins in Egypt, continues in Babylon and is complete at the White throne judgment. Bashan, Carmel and Lebanon are shadows and symbols of these three progressive judgments to finish the Lord’s work in remaking the marred vessel of clay.

BASHAN

H1316 – Bashan – Of uncertain derivation; Bashan (often with the article), a region East of the Jordan: – Bashan.

Bashan is a time in our walk when the flesh is very strong. We see this from the Psalms and the spiritual symbols of bulls and depths of the sea confirming the understanding of our time in Bashan.

Psa 22:12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.

Psa 68:22 The Lord said, I will bring again from Bashan, I will bring my people again from the depths of the sea [the flesh, the bottomless pit etc]

 

Amo 4:1 Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.

We know what these “kine” will be drinking as we all will be made to drink of the Lord’s cup and partake of His baptism by fire (Mat 20:23).

Bashan is east of the Jordan river and that typifies our time in the wilderness before we have the second baptism and are given the ability to go into the land across the river and begin to conquer the real giants (sins). Bashan is very much aligned with Gilead; they are mentioned together in fifteen verses of Scripture. This location spiritually speaking is where we make a covenant with the old man (typified as Laban, Gen 31:48) to peacefully coexist. That covenant will not stand, it will be disannulled but this is where we must first start. It is from this spiritual place of apostasy that the man child will come forth out of Babylon and begin to head west on the journey towards maturity (Rev 12:5-6).

Og, is the king of Bashan, and there are many battles Israel (you and me in spirit) have with this king before we are given victory (Jos 17:5, Deu 3:10).  It is no surprise we languish in Bashan as this entire region of sixty cities (6 is man) was built with copper (brass) which always typifies the flesh or the works of man’s hands.

1Ki 4:13 The son of Geber, in Ramothgilead; to him pertained the towns of Jair the son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead; to him also pertained the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, threescore great cities with walls and brasen bars:

Bashan is also known for its mighty (prideful) oaks. Devoid of the Spirit of God, these trees we are on the east side of the Jordan languish spiritually, bear no fruit and are rebuked by the Lord in due time. But these oaks trees are mighty in the world’s carnal eyes and represent the pride of man which must be fed with judgment to be saved.

Zec 11:2 Howl, fir tree; for the cedar is fallen; because the mighty are spoiled: howl, O ye oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage is come down.

The land of Milk and Honey is not the meat. It is where we must start out as carnal babes in Christ as we are being prepared to cross the Jordan in spirit and fight the giants by first feeding on the enemies of our carnal mind in Bashan and Gilead among other “heathen” nations within. The whole bed of King Og within us has now been prepared for judgment when the Lord rebukes us.

Deu 3:11 For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man…..

Deu 3:13 And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants

Eventually the Lord gives us the faith to cross over and before we do the king of Bashan is utterly destroyed in down payment form.

Jos 2:10 For we (the people of Jericho) have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.

The second location that languishes which the Lord rebukes in due time is Carmel.

Carmel

H3760 – Carmel – The same as H3759; Karmel, the name of a hill and of a town in Palestine: – Carmel, fruitful (plentiful) field, (place).

Carmel is probably best known as the place where Elijah challenged and mocked the false prophets of Baal in 1 King 18 and then slayed them all. In spirit Carmel represents our time in Spiritual Babylon being deceived by the prophets of Baal within and without. This land has been planted but the seed has been corrupted for the time being, being choked with thorns.

Carmel was on the west side of the Jordan river and sat in the NW corner of Israel along the seacoast. The pitting of the prophet of God against the prophets of Baal must take place within us, in order for Carmel, the planted field within to live up to its name and bring forth fruit. So the land Carmel languishes under the influences of false doctrines, lies and unbelief within us that take time and the rebuking by God’s Word to burn out of us. But an ambassador is coming to Carmel within, it has already been appointed and we must just wait for it to come.

Jer 46:18 As I live, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.

 

A prophet will come at the appointed time of judgment (third year) and then the rain will fall on Carmel and initiate the cleansing of the land and restoration of Carmel to a fruitful field.

1Ki 18:1 And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.

1Ki 18:2 And Elijah went to shew himself unto Ahab. And there was a sore famine in Samaria.

 The Lord will bring trials upon us to choose the God we worship and show us who is the true God and what is of our carnal mind, the seed of the serpent.

 1Ki 18:19 Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel’s table.

1Ki 18:20 So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.

1Ki 18:21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

 This too is a seven-fold process of falling to the earth (Pro 26:14). After the event concludes and the true God is established in the minds of Israel, then the rain comes and the drought ends. The rain will come from this little cloud (The Body) that rises up out of the sea.

1Ki 18:42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,

1Ki 18:43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

1Ki 18:44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.

 Here we see the Body of Christ in symbol, the “little cloud” that comes from the sea and is the right hand of the Lord. Carmel is a more mature place than Bashan and is where we will come to know and believe the true doctrines of the Lord. Yet it is still close to the sea (the flesh) and the lies and influences of the carnal mind and our father the devil and the two hundred million lies of Rev 9:16 take more fire and judgment to burn out of us.

Lebanon

The final location to discuss is Lebanon.  We all know this small nation north of modern day Israel but in spiritual terms, Lebanon has a specific meaning.

H3844 – Lebanon:  – From H3825; (the) white mountain (from its snow); Lebanon, a mountain range in Palestine: – Lebanon.

Lebanon comes from the word meaning “white mountain”. White has both a positive and negative application and is very instructive to understand the meaning of the word Lebanon (See link for Mike’s Study on Color White at the end). On the positive side “white” means the covering of Christ. The negative side means leprosy when we mix truth with lies until we come to be the mature man in Christ. “White” is associated with God’s elect, here is a sampling but there are many more scriptures.

Rev 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment,that thou mayest be clothed, and [ that] the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

Isa 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Rev 19:8 And to her [ Christ’s bride] was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

Joh 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

On the negative side, “white” also refers to God’s Elect in our first marred and carnal state when we blaspheme Christ and prophesy falsely in our self-righteousness. Even Satan and his ministers appear as angels of light dressed in white.

Mat 23:27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.

 Lev 13:10 And the priest shall see him: and, behold, if the rising be white in the skin, and it have turned the hair white, and there be quick raw flesh in the rising;
Lev 13:11 It is an old leprosy in the skin of his flesh, and the priest shall pronounce him unclean, and shall not shut him up: for he is unclean.

Leprosy is a permanent condition of being “yet carnal” and will never go away on its own. Loving this world and all the things in it must be burned out of us and there is only one cure for leprosy, the coming of Christ to heal us.

We all are Lebanon, a white mountain in spirit, both the positive and the negative. Even after coming to the knowledge of Truth and having the false prophets of Baal cast out. Along our journey pride is always an enemy we deal with and the Lord will deal judgment upon this. This happens in Lebanon in our more mature state of our walk.

Jer 22:23 O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!

Zec 11:1 Open thy doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour thy cedars.

We are being judged now so we won’t be condemned with the world in the age to come (1 Cor 11:32). It is this White Throne judgment that makes us “white” and enables us to be the overcomers and serve the Lord’s purposes in instructing all men in the Lake of fire and being the deliverers with Christ.

Dan 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

Dan 11:33 And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days.

But they will also “instruct many” that when all is said and done we will all be “made white” through purging trials. In the end all men shall be saved and there will be a big forest of trees in Lebanon.

 Isa 29:17 Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest?

Isa 29:18 And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness…..

Isa 29:24 They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.

The flower of Lebanon that languishes is the pure Word of God. One speck of leprosy makes us unclean and a little leaven indeed leavens the whole lump and causes the flower to languish.  We see the flowers in the tabernacle of God in Exodus as Steven’s recent Awesome Hands studies have shown (see link at the end of study).

Exo 25:31 And thou shalt make a candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work shall the candlestick be made: his shaft, and his branches, his bowls, his knops, and his flowers, shall be of the same.

The trials, “the heat of the sun”, will initially wither the flower and make it languish. This is what happens to us all when we are rich, full of pride, puffed up in our new knowledge (the true doctrines of Christ) but unproven by the furnace of affliction that will yet come and is coming.

Jas 1:11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

The pure Word of God must be watched over diligently. We must take heed to our doctrines knowing that it is what saves us and those that hear us.

1Ti 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

The key takeaway from Part two is the ongoing and progressive process of judgment and abiding in the fire. This is what grows and matures us as we are able to “eat this meat” of the Word and “eat the flesh of Christ and drink His blood”. This process continues until the day we give up these physical bodies of clay. The process repeats itself with different details and the Lord only allows us to receive what we can bear. Knowing the Lord works this “evil” for good (not without cause) should help us endure and comfort one another who are all at various stages of our walks.

1Co 3:21 Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours;
