The Lame Remnant

Key Verses:  Micah 4:1 – 4:8

The way of salvation is through judgment.  All men are saved by the grace of a mighty God (Eph 2:8) and that grace is what scourges every son the Lord receives unto Himself.

Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Heb 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

For those with eyes to see, this process is no longer a mystery or a secret. We see the same process told many other ways and the Bible is totally consistent on the Truth. Other ways of saying it are 1) We learn obedience by the things we suffer (Heb 5:8), 2) No man enters into the Temple except by living out the seven vials of wrath against their wickedness (Rev 15:8), and 3) We learn righteousness when judgment is in our earth (Isa 26:9). This is old hat for those who have been walking in the Truth for a while.

Yet “Eternal Judgment” remains an essential truth, one of the foundational doctrines (Heb 6:2) that remains foolishness to carnally minded multitudes that comprise all of mankind. We must move beyond this basic foundation in our walk to mature.  This we will do only if the Lord permits as there is no free will involved in any matter of our lives. Only the elect of the Lord are being blessed beyond belief and given “eyes to see and ears to hear” (Rom 11:7, Mat 13:16).

The focus of Part 12 was the Lord putting His people into darkness before He brings them into the Light. We covered this season of apostasy, our falling away, leaving our first love, that we are told must be (2 Th 2:3) before the day of the Lord comes upon us “is, was and will be”.

Mic 3:6 Therefore night shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.

We are still in darkness here as we start Chapter 4 as verse 12 makes clear.

Mic 4:12 But they know not the thoughts of the LORD, neither understand they his counsel: for he shall gather them as the sheaves into the floor.

Judgment is the process by which the Lord reaps His harvest and all men in due time go from not knowing the Lord to knowing Him and His doctrines. We only come to see and understand these things, after the fact, by looking behind us (Rev 1:10) and as Christ is being glorified within us.

Joh 12:16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.

Our travailing in birth pangs is about to begin yet we still do not understand His Word or His ways which are far different than the ways of the carnal mind. Nobody learns anything without experience and so it is with spiritual truths. We learn by doing, by keeping His judgments when that day is at hand. All disciples have to walk with Jesus for 3.5 years symbolically claiming they see but understanding not. The mind of Christ comes little by little as we endure on the journey.

Luk 18:34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.

This “understanding not” is especially true about the strange act of judgment and having to die to be risen in newness of life. Judgment is now coming upon the house of Israel. It comes suddenly at midnight (Mat 25:6) in the darkest part of the spiritual night. Going out to meet the bridegroom is opening the door for judgment and ushers in the harvest of the Lord.

Psa 119:62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.

Here the verses that comprise this study in Micah.

Mic 4:1 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.

Mic 4:2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Mic 4:3 And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Mic 4:4 But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it.

Mic 4:5 For all people will walk everyone in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.

Mic 4:6 In that day, saith the LORD, will I assemble her that halteth, and I will gather her that is driven out, and her that I have afflicted;

Mic 4:7 And I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation: and the LORD shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever.

Mic 4:8 And thou, O tower of the flock, the strong hold of the daughter of Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem.

These verses in Micah and all the prophets apply to us inwardly and will apply outwardly as well in the appointed times. Judgment begins at the house of the Lord and it is the elect who are the first to be redeemed from the earthy and carnal way of life which is also the first resurrection.

Jas 1:18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Rev 14:4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

These verses speak to the process by which all men shall be brought to salvation. This process is known and symbolized as the LAKE OF FIRE by which the Lord will accomplish and IS accomplishing His purpose and regather all things back to Himself.

Eph 1:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:

There is an order to God’s plan by which all men shall be saved. There are three harvests hidden in these verses that tell of God’s plan for the salvation of all.

1Co 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

1Co 15:23 But every man in his own order: (1) Christ the firstfruits; (2) afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming [i.e The Elect at the First Resurrection]

1Co 15:24  (3) Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. [This is the final harvest thru the Lake of Fire]

The barley harvest during the days of unleavened bread, which typifies Christ, and the wheat harvest at the day of Pentecost, are both called a harvest of firstfruits. Christ was the firstfruit unto God (1 Co 15:20) and His sons are also a type of firstfruits (Jam 1:18) that are gathered first and that is typified by the Feast of Pentecost in type and shadow. Our judgment and lake of fire experience is now (1 Pe 4:17) in this age.  We are living these words out inwardly. It is the seed of Christ planted in us from which the new man comes forth as we are conforming into His image by judgment.

Rom 11:16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.

As the Body of Christ, the government of Jesus Christ sits upon us, His firstfruits. We are the instruments through which salvation and peace comes upon the entire earth. That Prince of Peace comes by first putting down all rebellion and subduing all enemies to the Lord. If we are to be the Lord’s instruments of judgment, we ourselves have to overcome and endure to the end. Only then will we be given power over the nations within us but also power over the outward nations.

Rev 2:26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations

Rev 2:27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

The peace that surpasses all understanding is being accomplished by the blood of Christ. Without the shedding of blood (via judgment) there is no remission (putting away) of sin and no washing of our robes (lifestyle) to make them white.

Eph 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

Eph 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

Eph 2:16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

Let’s look more into the verses and see what is going on in this “lake of fire” process that consumes the adversaries of the Lord and brings about His will for every man.

Mic 4:4 But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it.

Mic 4:5 For all people will walk everyone in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.

The end of judgment brings dominion of Christ to the nations inwardly and outwardly. This is the true Sabbath and rest that remains for all men, the very people of God that are being saved by judgment. When we lie down in green pastures and abide by the still waters we are at peace (Psa 23).  Those who are in Christ have come into the Temple by enduring through the seven vials of wrath (Rev 15:8) and have cast out all fear of men and death. Our obedience that results from judgment is what accomplishes this.

1Jn 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love

Psa 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Bringing us into our own land and placing us under our own vine and fig tree is gathering the scattered sheep, which represent the elect now in this age, but all men in due time.

Eze 34:13 And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country.

Eze 34:14 I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel.

Eze 34:15 I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord GOD.

There is both positive and negative applications of sitting under vines and fig trees. They are what nourish us. We saw this verse earlier where we are enticed to sit under the vine and trees of the King of Assyria within us that will not submit to Christ.

2Ki 18:31 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:

We dwell securely, in safety and without fear when we walk in the Name of Christ.

1Ki 4:25 And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon

Walking in the Name of our God refers to our doctrine and our obedience, being a doer of the Word. Doing things in the Name of the Lord requires us to obey the Lord and cling to sound doctrine. Our reasonable service is sacrificing our life to the Lord. Our walk is being washed by the water of the Word and our life becomes a burnt offering that is sweet savour to the Lord and the new man but a stench of death to the world and the old man.

Eph 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour.

Lev 1:9 But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water: and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

Sitting under our own vine and fig tree in the negative sense is symbolic of our time as a false prophets and a diviner. We call Him Lord but do not do what He says.

Mar 13:6 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

Deu 18:20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die

As Christ increases within us and outwardly in due time as the lake of fire spreads, deliverance shall come and all rebellion shall be put down as things are done “in His Name”.

Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Jer 3:17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.

True peace only comes after a major war is fought in our heavens.  This happens in “that day” when there is a great struggle and the flesh wars against the spirit. The process ends with the casting out of Satan from our heavens (Rev 12:7-9). The man child within us has true doctrine and is settled but the multitudes within us represent all those nations within Israel that are yet rebellious.  Those nations need to be brought into submission. This typifies the great struggle between flesh and spirit, Esau and Jacob, in the womb as we travail in birth pangs.  The new man walks in the Name of Christ and the old man signified by the mixed multitudes within us walk by the name of their gods.

1Jn 5:19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in the evil one.

 2Co 4:4 in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn upon them.

Yet this period of darkness is all the Lord’s work in us because we are the works of the Lord’s hands (Isa 64:8, Phil 2:13). Our entire life and our day of judgment, our day of the Lord; is a personal event we all experience inwardly in our heavens (mind) and on our earth (walk). The Lord through His Words will curse the vine and fig tree of the Assyrians within us. This is how the old man is spoiled, brought to his wits end and the branches being made white.

Joe 1:7 He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.

It is the chosen few that are the first to enter into the Holy City and walk in its light (Rev 21:4).

Psa 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Mic 4:6 In that day, saith the LORD, will I assemble her that halteth, and I will gather her that is driven out, and her that I have afflicted;

Mic 4:7 And I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation: and the LORD shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever.

In that day of judgment; the Lord is gathering back (assembling) those He has previously cast off into outer darkness to be destroyed (Psa 90:3). This is “the means” by which the Lord has devised to save all mankind.

2Sa 14:14 For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God respect any person: yet doth he devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him.

The new man within us, is the escaped remnant that the Lord is saving. The enmity of the carnal mind with the ways of the Spirit are slain and the rebellion is put down as we are being dragged to Him through the death of our old man. We want to appoint our own king and not be subject to the Lord but that first anointed king within us (King Saul) won’t obey the Lord and is being replaced by Jesus Christ (King David in type and shadow).  The old man is rejected and slain in order for the Lord to rule and reign within us.

1Sa 15:26 And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

Luk 19:27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

The process will manifest and be fulfilled outwardly in the Lake of Fire as all the enemies of the Lord will be subdued.

Psa 66:3 Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee

1Co 15:25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

The word halteth means lame, imperfect and conjures up weakness.  This is exactly what we have to become by the judgment and oppression the Lord sends us before we can be made strong. Paul and all mature men of God come to accept their afflictions and give the Lord thanks for them, knowing the righteousness they are working in us.

2Co 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

2Co 12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

The Lord has no use for anyone who thinks they of themselves bring anything to Him. We are given instructions on whom to bring to the feast of spiritual food at His table. Our giving and service is without seeking any gain, payback or usury.

Luk 14:12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

Luk 14:13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

Coming to our wits end and losing all confidence in the flesh is how we are being made strong in the Lord and Christ begins to reign over the inward Kingdom of God and the nations within. At the second resurrection, in the Lake of Fire, this will be fulfilled outwardly and the elect will be those instruments that usher in this salvation by this process of judgment (1Co 6:2, Mat 19:28).

Mic 4:8 NKJV And you, O tower of the flock, The stronghold [H6076] of the daughter of Zion, To you shall it come, Even the former dominion shall come, The kingdom of the daughter of Jerusalem.”

Dominion means control or rulership through sovereignty. We know the Lord is sovereign over all things, even the period of our deception and rebellion (Job 12:16, Eph 2:11, Mat 13:11). The first estate of the new man within us was we walked with the Lord. But we all have to leave our first love and abide through our period of sin and darkness before we are being turned back and assembled back with the Lord.  Man must live by every word God spoke even the darker ones.

Jud 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

Lord willing, if we are His elect, we will be found faithful in the end and turned back and respond by returning to our first love.

Rev 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Rev 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

It is a serious calling to be a watchman, a tower in the flock of God. Ultimately we all are being raised up as these watchmen and will serve as such in our roles in ruling and judging during the Millennium and the Lake of Fire.

Eze 3:17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.

But we cannot be a lone watchman without being in the Body and abiding with the other watchmen.  We cannot be forsaking our assembling together where we reprove and chasten one other in judgment now that is on the house of the Lord.

Isa 52:8 Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion.

The watchmen are the Body of Christ and are the armies that follow the Word, that speak the Word that brings the wrath of God against our sinful and fleshly way of life (Rev 19:14). The process of judgment shows us this with stunning clarity as we see ourselves as beasts and our marred sinful condition. Only the coming of Christ will deliver us from this death and this bondage, o wretched men that we all are in the flesh (Rom 7:24).

Being crucified with Christ, we are dead to sin and the Lord is putting our enemies under His feet and has dominion over our works. All men in due time will be the Lord’s Temple and His sanctuary over which Christ has dominion.

Psa 114:2 Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.

Rom 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

The word translated as “stronghold” in the KJV is the Hebrew word “ophel”.  Here is what Strong’s and the KJC Concordance say about it.

H6076, ‛ôphel, o’-fel

From H6075; a turior; also a mound, that is, fortress: – emerod, fort, strong hold, tower.

We can see this word is most often translated as emerods, which is an archaic way of saying hemorrhoids. The primary and most infamous use of this word is the story in 1 Samuel 5 about the Philistines and the Ark of God being placed in the middle of their camp next to their god Dagon. This is a wonderful spiritual message in type and shadow of how the Word destroys our false gods and afflicts our flesh with judgment.  Dagon is broken into pieces and the Philistines are smitten with emerods in their secret parts.

1Sa 5:9 And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

The only way this makes sense is to remember the two-edged sword has two sides. There is both a positive and a negative application to every Word of God. The root of this word means a raised mound.  An emerod is a “raised mound”, a fleshly affliction, in our secret places. Coming to see ourselves as afflicted, wretched men, lame and crippled, who of ourselves can do no good thing is indeed a huge blessing. Possessing this knowledge and the faith to walk it out, is a spiritual prerequisite (a stronghold) that will keep us on the narrow way.

Isa 2:11 The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

Mar 10:18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

One of the best things that can ever happen to us, is to be afflicted and made weak in the flesh.  This is what the Word does when it works in us through judgment. It is bringing to light all the dark things in due time and will show us our continual need for a spiritual physician and life coach.

Mat 9:12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

1Ti 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

Knowing these truths will help keep us humble and enable us to engage in spiritual warfare and to take thoughts captive that exalt themselves against obedience to Christ.  Next week Lord willing, the threshing of the wheat that represents judgment will be the theme as we finish Chapter 4 and begin Chapter 5.

  1. Thanks Sue, Your input last night was very edifying and added a lot to the study. For the benefit of all I will put that input here for all to read. You mentioned the lame son of Jonathan, David’s deep friend and how after King Saul and Jonathan’s death, David went looking for any descendants that were still alive. As he had promised he would look after the house of Jonathan in an earlier covenant.

    2Sa 4:4 And Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.

    David finds him and brings him to live and eat in the king’s house for the rest of his life. That is exactly what Christ, the King does for us, His lame servants and descendants of our carnal old man King Saul.

    2Sa 9:6 Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!
    2Sa 9:7 And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.
    2Sa 9:8 And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
    2Sa 9:9 Then the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master’s son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house.
    2Sa 9:10 Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master’s son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master’s son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.
    2Sa 9:11 Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king’s sons.
    2Sa 9:12 And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth.
    2Sa 9:13 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king’s table; and was lame on both his feet.

    This is a Wonderful type and shadow and shows us how all things were written for our benefit, the Elects upon whom the end of the age has come in this life.

    1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
