The Winnowing Hand of God
Matthew 3:11-12 He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Yesterday, the Lord was pressing me regarding the word winnowing. I shared a little and would like to share further what He has shown in His word to me in this hour.
From my prior comment, here is the dictionary definition of “winnowing”.
Definition of winnowing:
1. to free (grain) from the lighter particles of chaff, dirt, etc., especially by throwing it into the air and allowing the wind or a forced current of air to blow away impurities.
2. to drive or blow (chaff, dirt, etc.) away by fanning.
3. to blow upon; fan.
4. to subject to some process of separating or distinguishing; analyze critically; sift: to winnow a mass of statements.
5. to separate or distinguish (valuable from worthless parts) (sometimes followed by out ): to winnow falsehood from truth.
6. to pursue (a course) with flapping wings in flying.
7. to fan or stir (the air) as with the wings in flying.
Our obedience to Him is so important as we are led of the spirit to WALK in the spirit and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh we are born into. This is a high calling in the Lord and one that we are constantly in warfare over. Our mind is the battleground where the enemy comes in like a flood and we are constantly in straits every day and every hour to pursue godliness.
2Co 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh
2Co 10:4 (for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty (IN SPIRIT) before God to the casting down ((demolishing)) of strongholds( (ALL THOUGHTS THAT ARE EITHER WORLDLY, PRIDEFUL, LUSTFUL OR FALSE BABYLONIAN DOCTRINES AND CREEDS))),
2Co 10:5 casting down imaginations (unfruitful, carnal thinking), and every high thing (false worship, idols of the heart )that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing EVERY THOUGHT (through the power of the Spirit) into captivity (SINGLE-MINDEDNESS) to the OBEDIENCE OF CHRIST;
2Co 10:6 and being in readiness (SPIRITUALLY ARMORED) to avenge (OPPOSE) all disobedience (CARNALITY AND FALSE DOCTRINE), when your obedience shall be made full.
2Co 10:7 Ye look at the things that are before your face (WHAT IS SEEN WITH THE CARNAL MIND). If any man trusteth in himself that he is Christ’s, let him consider this again with himself, that, even as he is Christ’s, so also are we.
Let us consider if we are in Christ then how we are first being made subject to Him in all things and the sufferings of His Cross, slaying to death our fleshly thoughts and carnal minds and everything the spirit reveals to us as idols in our hearts that our obedience may be complete.
This holy spirit has fit this in so well with a word a brother in the Lord shared with me. He showed me this passage in Isaiah which speaks to God’s sovereign rule over the nations and how men have gone astray though FEAR and have carved out for themselves idols which knowingly and even unknowingly have replaced true worship of God in their hearts. WE ALL have gone down this path and some, few, in every generation are being called out, chosen, elected to be winnowed in His proccessings, trials and fires to sanctify for Himself a people (Christ’s christ — Head and Body, Husband and Wife,) who He will send forth in power to be His fan (winnowing instrument) and tool in the harvesting of all souls.
I am posting all of Isaiah 41. For those given ears to hear, the calling and choosing of the elect and what God purposes in and through them are mainly written in vs. 8-16.
THE LORD JEHOVAH REIGNS SOVEREIGN OVER ALL
Isa 41:1 Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the peoples renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak; let us come near together to judgment.
Isa 41:2 Who hath raised up one from the east, whom he calleth in righteousness to his foot? he giveth nations before him, and maketh him rule over kings; he giveth them as the dust to his sword, as the driven stubble to his bow.
Isa 41:3 He pursueth them, and passeth on safely, even by a way that he had not gone with his feet.
Isa 41:4 Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I, Jehovah, the first, and with the last, I am he.
OUT OF FEAR, MEN MAKE IDOLS TO WORSHIP/ REFUSING TO DRAW NEAR TO THE LOVING GOD WHEN HE CALLS/ THEY CAMP TOGETHER
Isa 41:5 The isles have seen, and fear; the ends of the earth tremble; they draw near, and come.
Isa 41:6 They help every one his neighbor; and every one saith to his brother, Be of good courage.
Isa 41:7 So the carpenter encourageth the goldsmith, and he that smootheth with the hammer him that smiteth the anvil, saying of the soldering, It is good; and he fasteneth it with nails, that it should not be moved.
Men, thinking they know God carve out idols (false ideas about God) and their worship of them are FIRMLY planted. Their hearts and minds are rooted in a perverted fear, just as those in the wilderness who would not hear from God but wanted Moses to ascend the mount for them. They built and worshipped a golden calf and God sent them a fiery law on tablets of stone for their stony hearts.
GOD CHOOSES AND USES A REMNANT, HIS ELECT, THE OFF-SCOURING AND WORM OF THE EARTH
Isa 41:8 But thou, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend,
Isa 41:9 thou whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth, and called from the corners thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant, I have chosen thee and not cast thee away;
Isa 41:10 fear thou not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Isa 41:11 Behold, all they that are incensed against thee shall be put to shame and confounded: they that strive with thee shall be as nothing, and shall perish.
Isa 41:12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contend with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
Isa 41:13 For I, Jehovah thy God, will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
Isa 41:14 Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith Jehovah, and thy Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.
Isa 41:15 Behold, I have made thee to be a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth (THE LIVING WORD, SHARPER THAN A TWO-EDGED SWORD); thou shalt thresh the mountains (HIGH THOUGHTS OF MEN EXALTING ABOVE GOD), and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.
Isa 41:16 Thou shalt winnow (Judge in righteous truth) them, and the wind (HOLY SPIRIT) shall carry them away (Demolish every high thing and stronghold) , and the whirlwind shall scatter them; and thou shalt rejoice in Jehovah, thou shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.
THE LORD IS CALLING THOSE WHO ARE THIRSTY TO COME TO HIS LIVING WATERS AND HE WILL MAKE GLAD THEIR HEARTS AND THEY SHALL THIRST NO MORE.
Isa 41:17 The poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst; I, Jehovah, will answer them, I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.
Isa 41:18 I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.
Isa 41:19 I will put in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia, and the myrtle, and the oil-tree; I will set in the desert the fir-tree, the pine, and the box-tree together:
Isa 41:20 that they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of Jehovah hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.
PROUD MEN STUCK IN THE VANITY OF THEIR IDOLATROUS WORSHIP WILL STILL ARGUE THEIR CAUSE
Isa 41:21 Produce your cause, saith Jehovah; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob.
Isa 41:22 Let them bring forth, and declare unto us what shall happen: declare ye the former things, what they are, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or show us things to come.
Isa 41:23 Declare the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.
Isa 41:24 Behold, ye are of nothing, and your work is of nought; an abomination is he that chooseth you.
GOD SENDS HIS SERVANTS TO DESTROY SUCH THOUGHTS WITH HIS GLAD TIDINGS AND WORDS
Isa 41:25 I have raised up one from the north, and he is come; from the rising of the sun one that calleth upon my name: and he shall come upon rulers as upon mortar, and as the potter treadeth clay.
YET THEY REMAIN BLIND LEADING THE BLIND
Isa 41:26 Who hath declared it from the beginning, that we may know? and before time, that we may say, He is right? yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that showeth, yea, there is none that heareth your words.
NEW JERUSALEM, THE BRIDE OF CHRIST BRING THE TRUE GOSPEL
Isa 41:27 I am the first that saith unto Zion, Behold, behold them; and I will give to Jerusalem one that bringeth good tidings.
THE STATE OF BABYLON
Isa 41:28 And when I look, there is no man: even among them there is no counsellor, that, when I ask of them, can answer a word.
Isa 41:29 Behold, all of them, their works are vanity and nought; their molten images are wind and confusion (Babylon).
