Common Lie About Repentance
Repentance is central to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus said to repent or we too shall perish. Peter said we need to repent to receive the Holy Spirit. We wonder why people don’t know the Holy Spirit, it is more than likely because they have NOT REPENTED.
This is a short video from Tim Conway that answers this lie about repentance head on. His answer is spot on. If we take pleasure in continued sin, we have not repented of that sin. We are basically telling God, we love that sin more than Him.
1 John 3:10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.
Are we doing what is right? Or are we deluding ourselves about our standing with God? Are you sorry for your continued sin? Is it Godly sorrow or is it just worldly sorrow? It makes a difference as the Apostle Paul told us.

I heard some sage advice the other day. If we are struggling with a besetting sin, and we keep on repenting but still keep on sinning, our repentance is not based on Godly sorrow. Instead of repenting again and repeating the pattern of repent, sin, repent, sin; we need to ask God for wisdom and show us the lie within us where we still are holding on to the sin and are taking pleasure in it. Once God shows us that, we need to give it to Him and weep and mourn over that sin and repent with sincerity.
