I believe that is a pretty good analogy. Once we turn from sin via our repentance, we are washed by His Word and given the Spriit of Truth that will guide us to obey. If we stumble in a moment of weakness, that same Spriit convicts us and we confess our sin. If have not repented, we are not rebirthed, we remain inherently wicked in our heart. We do not have the Spirit to guide and we can and will keep on sinning with no guilt or conviction. We are unrepentant sinners and are lost if we do this. Many claim to be Christians that have not repented and have not His Spirit. Those are the ones that sin with impunity and have no concious about it, they claim they are saved by Grace, but they know not God and the grace they know is a license to sin. That is why our walk with God must start with repentance. Jesus said repent or you too shall perish. Peter said repent and be baptized for the remission of sin. With repentance we our given a new heart and He gives us His spirit to keep us walking in the light. God Bless and thank you for the insightful questions.

The line of dilenation is in our heart with regards to sin. When God judges us, He looks to our hearts and examines our mind says Jeremiah. If we have His spirit we cannot practice sin but John tells us later in 1 John that if we do sin, He is faithful to forgive us when we confess. True Christians will have an inate God given desire to obey the Lord(grace), they will proactively strive to obey, they will suffer in the flesh, deny themselves, and aim for perfection in their walk with God. If one is not striving to be perfect, they will practice sin and are not Born Again. When we do stumble, we are convicted by the HS and must make a decision to repent of the sin or to keep doing it which means we are practicing sin. God knows our hearts and what is a weakness versus what is wickedness. God can give us strength to overcome weakness as there is no temptation we cannot endure. However, we must repent of all wickedness, God will not take it away from us, we must decide to turn from it. If we harbor WICKEDNESS in our heart, we are not a Christian, we are a phony, worshipping with our lips yet our hearts are far from God. Wickedness remains from lack of true repentance. If we sin and have no conviction about it, we are practicing sin and we are not saved as it is an oxymoron says God.

I wrote a post many months ago about practicing lawlessness.
